SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Manages a Food Service Program within a business activity. Develops, recommends and enforces operating procedures.
Plans and manages all phases of food service program where dining and catering are a substantial basis of the food
operation. Prepares/supervises the preparation of menus involving both standard and new cooking methods. Represents
the activity to the public. Conducts customer surveys, reviews usage/sales to make recommendations concerning services,
promotion activities and revenue improvements. Participates in the selection of employees, directs on-the-job-training of
new employees, and makes duty assignments consistent with operational requirements.
Develops operating budget and data, identifying labor, equipment, and supply costs. Controls food pricing and costs.
Oversees food ordering, storage and issues. Directs subordinates in all phases of food preparation and food sanitation
requirements.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Work experience or education directly related to the duties to be performed. Knowledge of pricing methods and
internal controls. Demonstrated work experience must be equivalent in complexity and difficulty to the next lower
pay level. Possess a certificate for sanitation in food service or have the ability to obtain the certificate within three
months of appointment.
c) Experience in directing subordinates in all phases of food preparation and food sanitation. (Servesafe or
Culinary Arts certificate).
d) Food and Beverage industry experience. Food ordering and receiving, measuring units, etc.
e) Skill in using MICROSOFT programs to include EXCEL access, WORD, POWER POINT and
OUTLOOK.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Appointment subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks IAW AR 215-3 to include a National
Agency Check (NAC).
NOTE: Spouse preference eligibility is terminated on placement into, or declination of a continuing position (one
expected to last at least one year) at any grade level for which the eligible spouse has applied for employment in either the
appropriated or NAF work force within DOD and whether or not preference was applied.

ATTENTION:
Current appropriated fund employees must attach a copy of their SF 50 and former nonappropriated fund employees a
copy of their separation DA 3434 (Army) or equivalent document (non-Army). Without these documents, credit for their
prior civilian service, will not be granted.
Applicants claiming veteran preference MUST submit a copy of their DD 214 with their application. Veteran preference
if authorized for military service performed will not be granted without the DD 214. Applicants with any type of active
military service should attach a copy of their DD 214 to ensure full consideration is given to their military service in
determining veteran’s preference.
NOTE: ISM preference can be exercised only once. Accordingly, ISM preference eligibility is terminated upon
placement in or declination of (whichever occurs first) a nonappropriated fund position for which application was made.
A spouse employment preference has priority over ISM preference.
