Making Elevation in
AutoCAD
 In AutoCAD architecture, you may create elevation
using tools on the Home tab section and elevation panel
or from the tool palettes document groups call-out
palette. Let’s review the differences in the Home tab
section and elevation panel. There are tools to generate
section and elevation view of the building but these do
not include the annotation symbols more appropriate for
construction documents on the tool palette document.
 Group call-outs palette are tools for interior and exterior
elevation marks as well as section marks. These create
sections and elevations along with the appropriate
construction document annotation on the Home tab
section and elevation panel. I’ll use the elevation line
tool at the elevation line start point prompt. I’ll pick
below and to the left of my building. I’ll pick a second
point below and to the right of the building which
creates building elevation line object that has width and
height and ends the command.
Building Elevation Line:
 When I select a building elevation line. We can see that
a boundary was automatically created with the depth
equal to the width. I drew there are grips for adjusting
the width and depth of the object and one to not use
the model extents for the height. The model height is
used by default on the building elevation line tab. There
are three panels generally modify and live section in the
properties palette.
Dimensions Group:
 Dimensions group is the subdivision option we will review
this in a different lesson. This allows you to control the
color property of entities within different subdivisions with
a building elevation line still selected on the modify
panel.
Elevation Dialog Box:
 I’ll click the generate elevation tool which opens the
generate section elevation dialog box at the top is a radio
button to create a 3D section elevation object. This generate
a single 3D object the 2D section elevation object with
hidden line option creates a 2D flat elevation. That is always
viewed from the top view direction from the style to generate
drop-down lists you may choose different styles that you have
customized in style manager. These styles allow you to control
what the linework looks like in the elevation on the bottom left
the current display set section. There are currently zero items
selected.
Object Tool:
 So I’ll click the select objects tool. I’ll select the entire
model that right-click. Since this is the first time using this
tool. I’ll select the new object radio tool. If it was existing
and I wanted to replace it. I would pick the replace
existing radio button selecting the pick point button. I’ll
pick a spot below and to the left of all the drawing
objects then click OK to dismiss the dialog box.
2D Section Elevation:
 The 2D section elevation object is created the routine
had some trouble with our custom door that was round
well fixed that in the editing lesson. I’ll delete both 2D
section elevation and the building elevation line object.
And now I’ll create elevations a different way on the tool
palettes document group call-out. I will pick the exterior
elevation mark a3 tool at the prompt specify first corner
of elevation region. I’ll pick above and to the left of the
model that at the prompt specifies at the opposite
corner of elevation region.
Rectangular Shape:
 I’ll pick below and to the right of the building. This
creates a rectangular shape around the building the
edges of the rectangle indicate where the four
elevations will be generated from and open the place
call-out dialog box. There are three sections in this dialog
box call-out only places annotation tags but does not
generate elevation objects.
Model Space Views:
 If we choose one of the three create options model
space views will be created and saved the new model
spaces view name allow you to pre names. These views
the default names are north, east, west and south
elevation. When created these elevation objects they
may be placed in a new or existing view drawing or the
current drawing.
Project Navigator:
 The use of the phrases views drawing indicates the
creation of the type of drawing used with the project
navigator. However, these views may also be used in
projects not utilizing project navigator in the bottom
section are options to generate section elevation as well
as place title mark and the scale to use for the view
boundary as well as an annotation. When this view is
dragged and dropped from a view file onto a sheet file
in project navigator the view part will be scaled so that
the plot scale matches this value. I’ll pick the current
drawing button at the prompt specify insertion point for
the 2D elevation.
Result:
 I’ll pick above and to the left of my building at the
prompt pick a point to specify the spacing and direction
of elevation. I’ll pick to the right of my first pick the
spacing is the distance between the right or bottom
edge of the first view created and the left or top edge
of the next view. All four elevations are created and
labeled the attributes in the view little blocks are using
field which is automatically filled in correctly using
project navigator to drag and drop these views onto
sheet files.
