October, 2017
What is Cold Chain?
1. Cold Chain logistics is the system of transporting and storing goods
at controlled temperatures from the point of production to the end-
user.
2. It helps to preserve and extend the shelf life of various products
including meat and seafood, dairy products, agricultural produce,
frozen food, pharmaceuticals, cut flowers, etc.
Executive Summary
1. Cold Chain logistics is the system of
transporting and storing goods at
controlled temperatures from the point of
production to the end-user.
2. Dubai is ideally positioned as the regional
hub for cold chain logistics to the GCC and
MEA region.
3. The Global Cold Chain market was valued at
USD 110.2B in 2014. It is expected to grow
to USD 381.68B in 2025.
4. The MEA Cold Chain market is valued at

estimates made as of today.
Why Cold Chain?

1. According to the UN 2013 report

“Food Wastage Footprint: Impacts on
Natural Resources” :
1. A third of the world’s food
production goes to waste.
2. Wastage of 1.3B tons of food
each year is causing economic
losses of $750B and significant
damage to the environment
2. Part of the wastage is traced to
improper food and perishable goods
handling; thus the need for cold
chain supply and storage systems
especially in harsh environments
such as the Arabian peninsula.
Why Cold Chain? (continued)

3. It extends the shelf life of perishable products considerably.
