Lab #1: Trip generation models

This lab deals with zonal based models. You are expected to produce a comprehensive report
describing the process you have followed to estimate the models, and conduct the analysis
requested. The report should be detailed enough for an uninformed reader to understand the
approach you have used, its rationale, and the validity of your findings and conclusions.

Estimating zonal based trip generation models

Analysis of the data:

This data set in Table 1 was obtained from an actual O-D survey. The first step must be to assess
the quality of the data, which is required to assess the internal consistency of the data set. This
analysis focuses on determining if the data are consistent with the current knowledge about trip
generation.

Regression analysis:

Develop regression models linking trip production (measured in number of passenger trips/day) to
the independent variables. Try different functional forms and test the significance of the models
and its variables. Since this is a cross-sectional data set, heteroscedasticity is likely to appear.
Consequently, the homoscedasticity assumption should be verified and remedial measures for
heteroscedasticity taken, if needed.
