We talked about what we are going to learn in this lesson. We are informed
that after taking this class what kind of changes we will have. As future’s
teachers we should know how to teach effectively and to achieve this we should
know how to use our voices, our body, facial expressions, gestures, postures
effectively. Because, knowing English is not enough to teach, beside we have to
know how we can convey this knowledge using non-verbal language effectively.
As I take such classes as drama, methodology, I think that teaching is not an
easy issue as it is thought. I do not like my voice and posture while presenting, so
I will develop them in this class thanks to you.

We did some activities such us matching and mirroring. We touched our

fingers together with our partners and tried to follow their actions still touching
their fingers. Then one of the partners became a mirror and the other did
something in front of the mirror and the mirror tried to imitate their partner’s
actions. By doing these activities we developed our ability to guess what the next
action of our partner will be.

Finally some of our friends imitate some actions without using real objects
but pretending there is something real there and we tried to guess what their
action was.

We started studying chapter 4. In this chapter we studied body language

such as our facial expressions, eye contact, gestures. We talked about their
importance in teaching and how we can use them effectively in our teachings.
For example, if we use our facial expressions according what we are talking
about, what we are talking about will be clearer for our students and they will not
misunderstand what is said. We can use eye contact to get the students attention
to the class and we can send them some implied messages about their unknown
behaviors

In this course we did some voice exercises, we tried to use our diagrams.
We learnt that if we speak according to voice rules and train our voices as we did
in this lesson, we can be very effective in front of the class. Especially I have to
try to use my voice effectively, because my voice is terrible and will bore my
students. we try to read the poem but there were not much participation for
reading it. I am one of those people who don’t want to read it unfortunately,
because when I read aloud in the classroom, I read it different and terrible.
Therefore, I didn’t read. But I learned that I should have read it, because if I don’t
practice, there won’t be changing. Sorry for that.

Today, we watched our friend’s presentations and made comments. We

learned how our presentations will be if we use our eye contacts, body language
and voice effectively. There were some words we mispronounced and we studied
them. Feedbacks were very useful for our future presentations. Thanks.

We studied chapter 5 today. The chapter was about animation in voice. In

this class what I learnt was people’s voices are unique, which was interesting for
me. To convey our message effectively to others, we should use different pitches.
Another important thing was that we should use pauses in our speeches to draw
student’s attention. People should speak naturally not to make other people
nervous while speaking with them.

20.10.2010

In this class, we made improvisation. Some of our friends were really good
at acting and we enjoyed them very much. We learnt how important where we
stand to be seen by the audiences is important

2.10.2010

We started to study chapter 7 ‘Humor’. Humor is essential for class to

make the students learn better in a relaxed atmosphere. It helps us to have a
good relationship with our students. It makes the teacher become a member of
the class not a superior one. Also, there are some categories of humor such as;
joke, riddle, pun, funny story, humorous comment etc. I have learnt a wonderful
saying in this lesson ‘being a teacher of the class or being a teacher for the
class’. We should keep it in our mind all the time.
