1.02.02 The voltage class of the Generator circuit breaker shall be same as that
of the generator.
1.02.03 The rated continuous current rating of the Generator circuit breaker shall
be arrived at considering the maximum output of the generator under
VWO (693MW) conditions and at specified minimum voltage.
1.02.04 The Generator Circuit Breaker (GCB) shall be installed in indoor and
connected to Generator busduct (Isolated Phase) on both sides. Suitable
provisions shall be made for connection with Isolated Phase Busduct
(IPBD) through flexible connection.
1.02.05 The GCB movement during short circuit shall be restricted so as to limit
the stresses on GCB support insulators within their capabilities.
1.02.08 The short time and momentary current rating of the Generator circuit
breaker shall be decided as follows:
OR
b) Momentary current rating: 2.55 times the short time current rating
arrived as above.
c) Rated short circuit current is fixed based on the system short circuit
current calculations.
1.02.09 The basic switchgear module shall include the following minimum
equipment but shall not be limited to the same.
b) Grounding switches fitted both sides of unit and to all three phases.
1.02.11 The GCB shall be of three 1-Ф, 22kV, metal enclosed, indoor and free
standing type, hydraulic spring operated and SF6 gas shall be the arc
quenching medium. It shall be provided with three pole gang operation
and antipumping feature. The Generator circuit breaker shall use SF6
gas both as its arc-extinguishing medium as well as for internal
insulation. It shall be designed with separate contact systems for the
current breaking and current carrying functions. Semaphore position
indicators shall be provided for local indication of the position of the
circuit breaker. The time between the first and last pole to open or close
shall not exceed 2 ms. The circuit breaker shall be capable of
interrupting currents under out-of-phase conditions with out-of-phase
angles upto 180O.
1.02.13 Insulators shall be of high strength, fine glazed porcelain or epoxy resin
type.
1.02.14 SF6 gas density monitor for each phase shall be provided monitoring the
three phases of the circuit-breaker. Necessary interlocks are to be
arranged to prevent breaker operation on fall of SF6 gas density.
1.02.20 For circuit breaker, two trip coils shall be provided. Upon loss of drive
energy, control power supply or SF6 gas, the breaker shall remain in
fully closed or open position.
1.02.21 The circuit breaker with contacts open and insulating gas at atmospheric
pressure shall be capable of withstanding three times the phase-to-
ground voltage; to assure that the circuit breaker in the open position is
capable of withstanding voltages under conditions where the two
systems are out-of-phase. All parts of the insulation structure, including
those between phases to earth and across the open contacts, shall be of
inherently stable nature with a minimum susceptibility to dielectric
tracking
1.02.22 The control cubicle shall accommodate all necessary equipment for
local/remote changeover facilities, control, monitoring, supervision and
interlocking of the system. The degree of protection shall be IP-42.

1.02.24 The voltage transformers shall be of 1-Ф cast resin type with two
secondary windings. The secondary windings shall be permanently
wired to terminal blocks into the GCB system control cubicle. The
voltage transformers shall be accessible through the removed top cover
of the GCB system enclosures.
1.03.00 TESTS
1.03.01 All routine tests as per IEC-60056 and equipment specification shall be
conducted on each of the generator circuit breaker.
1.03.02 Following Type tested certificates shall be furnished. The type tests
conducted for the equipment Supplied/Erected & Commissioned as per
the scope shall not be beyond five years from the date of
Supply/Services. In case type test certificates are not available for the
equipment Supplied/Erected & Commissioned as per the scope,
following type tests shall be conducted on each type & rating of the
equipment:
ii) Test for rated closing, latching and short time current carrying
capability.
f) Type tests and oscillographic test records for closing and tripping
timings for generator circuit breaker of the rating Supplied/Erected
& Commissioned as per the scope.
c) Frequency Hz : 50
