1. Purpose:

The purpose of this report shows monthly status of Fire and Safety Department,
SMBB Trauma Center, Dr Ruth K.M Pfau civil hospital Karachi.

2. Scope:
This report includes status of fire and safety arrangements with in SMBB Trauma
Center, CHK. This includes the status of fire safety arrangements in SMBBTC.

3. Existing Condition of Fire Fighting arrangement

From 04-02-2019 Fire and Safety manager took the charge of department. Form
first day this department start his activities to address the active and passive
measures to retaliate the any accident within the SMBBTC.

 Fire and Safety Team:

At Present total 05 persons (one manager and four supervisors) are
working in morning and evening shifts.
 No: of Fire Extinguishers :
Currently 119(Dry chemical & CO2) fire extinguishers are installed
within building, 75 new locations are identified for more installation of
fire extinguishers on all floors
 Fire hydrant:
Total 39 fire hydrants are installed, but Store and 13th floor has no any
hydrant, these both locations must be given the fire hydrants.
 Fire hose reel :
Total 39 hose reel are installed excluding Store and 13th floor
 Smoke detectors:
A total 557 Smoke detectors are installed. But Store, 2nd, 3rd 4th & 8th
floors has no any Smoke detectors are installed, wring route is available
but devices are not installed.
 Manual Fire Call Point: A total 44 MCPs are installed on floors.
 Fire Alarm Sounders: A total 33 number of FAS are installed on Floors.
 Emergency Exit Plans for all floors have been done and shared with
printing resource person (Rameez)

 Bio infection waste treatment department
(Inclinator Machine Newster 10) worked whole month smoothly total
down time was 3 days due to temperature Probe issue.

4. Major Issues:
 Almost MCPS and Smoke detectors are not working (except floors from 9
to 11) immediate mantainence required for MCPS and SDs.
 As per drawing Smoke detectors of some floors are missing. i.e. (12 th floor)
has 20+ SD missing but drawing is showing actually there are Placed.
 Fire hydrant has no any connection with fire pump, pump has no any
connection with fire hydrant, and hence there is no any advantage of fire
hydrant. More over fire hydrant pipe is also not installed with all fire
hydrants. The cable of Fire hydrant is not connected with Generator , this
cable must be installed for proper working of fire hydrant
 No any External emergency exits are available for building; management
must focus and raise this issue in Board meeting to start working on
external exits.
 No any emergency exit is available in Store, Firefighting equipment for
store required installations.
5. Look ahead Plan:

 Staff Trainings:
For enhancing the knowledge of staff of SMBTTC, Fire and Safety
department has developed a series of training sessions, for this purpose
three training sessions of 01 hour duration were done in month of of
March-2019. More than 150 staff members have attended these session.
But senior staff members were limited numbers.
 Emergency Drills:
Fire and Safety emergency drills are also planned to enhance the
knowledge of staff to fight in case of real emergences
 SOPs:
Fire and Safety Department has developed different SOPs related to Fire
Emergencies and routine maintenance of F&S arrangements with in
building, a copy of Fire Emergency Plan is submitted to AMS and DMS for
their review, after review and approval this Plan will be circulated to HODs
and trainings on these SOPs will be conducted.

 Smoke Detectors Maintenance: Telecom Engineering company which
Installed smoke detectors) visited twice in month of March and
Maintained Fire alarm panel to keep up to date Fire Alarm.
