Starting Word Pad

Word Pad – A Computer program used to type letters.

To start “WordPad”,
 Click “Start”.
 Click “All Program”.
 Click “Accessories”.
 Click “WordPad”

This will open “WordPad” window.

Creating a new file.

 Click on “File Menu”.
 Click on “New” option from file menu.

This will open new file in word pad.

Type in “WordPad”
Let us begin to type a few lines about “Computer”

 Type “Computer”.
 Press “Enter Key” to jump to the next line.
Type next line.

Saving the text

Save option is used to store the typed text permanently.

 Click “Save button”.

 In the file name box, type a name for your document.

Observe that the name of the document appears on the title bar.
The name of document is called “File Name”.

Create a folder
To create a folder

 Right click on desktop.

 Select “New” from shortcut menu.
 Select “Folder” option from Another shortcut menu.
  Type name of the folder.

This will create a new folder.

Authentication
The process of identifying an individual, usually based on a username and password.
“Authentication is the process of validating the identity of someone or something.”

How to enter login and password in computer?

After your system is turned on, log in to the system to start a session.

 Type your login name following the login: prompt:

Login – [login name]
For examples if your login name is “Student”
Login - Student
 If the password: prompt is displayed, type your password. (The screen does not
display your password as you type it.)
Password – [password]

If the password prompt is not displayed, you have no password defined; you can begin
working in the computer.

Requirement of Authentication
Login ID is one of the most common authentication mechanisms used within computing
systems.

1. It is used for security of data.

2. No one can access your data without your permission.

Input and output devices

Input devices - The main function of the input device is to enter the data in the computer.
For example - mouse, keyboard

Output device – The main function of output device is to receive data from a computer,
usually for display, projection, or physical reproduction.
For example - monitor, printer.
