Field Study 4 (Exploring Curriculum) Report

S.Y. 2015-2016

The present teacher education curriculum is designed in such a way that


curricular components are integrated. The curriculum emphasizes the
interweaving of foundational, theoretical, methodological and experiential
knowledge in various learning experiences in the curriculum. (CHED Memo 30, s.
2004). The experiential learning component of the curriculum consists of six (6)
Field Study (FS) courses and Practice Teaching.
The equivalent of the FS courses in previous teacher education curricula is the
observation course which is taken a semester before Practice Teaching. As a
result, the student’s teacher observed teaching-learning processes in authentic
setting not side by side with the learning of concepts and theories but long after
the concepts and theories have been learned.
FS4 is focused on The Meaning of Curriculum, Types of curricula in Schools, The
Teacher as a Curricularist, and The Teacher as a Knower of Curriculum,
Approaches about School Curriculum, Curriculum Development: Processes and
Models, Foundations of Curriculum Development, Crafting the Curriculum: The
Teacher as a Designer, Approaches to Curriculum Design, Implementing the
Curriculum: The Teacher as Curriculum Implementer and manager, Stakeholders
in Curriculum Development, Curriculum Evaluation and Teacher.

Episode 1 unfolds the meaning of curriculum from the student’s point of view
from authoritative sources and from different people of various discipline.
Students will interview people in different schools in various disciplines and
levels. They will get the opinions on the meaning of curriculum. After analyzing
the results of the interview they will going to formulate conclusion and they will
visit the school library/surf the internet or consult a dictionary. And write the
meaning of curriculum taken from authoritative sources. Students also make their
own definition of curriculum. Consider all the meanings you have taken from the
different sources and from authoritative sources.

Episode 2 describes the different types of curricula in schools. This learning


episode allows you to differentiate the types of curricula existing in the different

Episode 3 is concerned with enumerating the characteristics of a teacher as a
curricularist. It clearly spells out the various functions of a teacher as curriculum
specialists.
Episode 4 enable the students to distinguish the traditional from the progressive
curriculum. It cites the differences and similarities between the two. This provides
a wider perspective on the nature and scope of these types.
Episode 5 concerned with the different approaches about school curriculum. It
elaborates on suggested criteria in the selection of knowledge or subject matter.
It also discusses the basic principles of curriculum.
Episode 6 summarizing the curriculum processes and models. It emphasizes that
curriculum is ever dynamic and so undergoes a continuous process.
Episode 7 emphasizes the importance of curriculum development. It vividly
describes how the philosophical, historical, psychological and sociological
foundations of curriculum are interrelated.
Episode 8 illustrates the vital role of teachers as curriculum designers. It
enumerates the ten axioms for curriculum designer and explains the elements/
components of curriculum design.
Episode 9 emphasizes the different ways at working at the curriculum. It explains
various curriculum design models and how these are applied in the school setting.

Episode 10 explores the process of curriculum implementation. It allows the


students to categorize the changes made in the curriculum. It also elaborates on
the different changes happening in the curriculum at present.
Episode 11 gives the roles of the various stakeholders in the community in the
enrichment of the curriculum. This also cites the importance of the various
stakeholders in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
Episode 12 provides activities on the what, why, and how to evaluate a
curriculum. This episodes also elaborates on the need to evaluate the various
curriculum models.
Field Study 2 (Exploring Curriculum) Report
S.Y. 2016-2017
Field Study 2 is an outcomes-based course designed to provide FS students with
opportunities to experience the teaching-learning process in the classroom. It
basically an observation course intended to help the FS students observe the
application of principles of teaching and learning in actual classroom teaching.
The FS students observes how the Resource Teacher develops his/her lessons in
the various domains by the use of teaching methods and activities to attain
intended learning outcomes.
Episode 1 is centered on time-tested principles of learning which when applied
will lead to effective learning. It is good to find out manner and extent to which
these principles are applied in the classroom.
Episode 2 intended learning outcomes /lessons objectives set the direction of the
lesson. For them to serve as guiding star they must be SMART and formulated in
accordance with time-tested principles.
Episode 3 Benjamin Bloom cited three (3) domains of knowledge cognitive,
psychomotor and affective. Kendall and Marzano also gave three (3) groups of
learning information (declarative knowledge), Metacognitive procedures
(procedural knowledge) and psychomotor procedures (Motor or physical Skills).
This Episode will focus on these domains of knowledge and learning.
Episode 4 dwells on Bloom’s levels of cognitive processing and on the new
taxonomy of processing knowledge introduced by Kendall and Marzano.

Episode 5 K to 12 law made explicit in the pedagogical approach for the K to 12


curriculum. This episode revolves around this pedagogical approach.
Episode 6 Teaching Learning Approach, the FS students gets acquainted with
methods of teaching. A teaching methods is the practical realization or
application of an approach.
Episode 7 is about the guiding principle in the section and use of teaching
method. It comes after the FS students has been introduced to methods of
teaching.
Episode 8 Tackles lesson development, the OBTL way. The K to 12 Curriculum and
teacher education curriculum are focused on outcomes, standards and
competencies. This means that lessons must be delivered with focus on
outcomes.
Episode 9 dwells on types of questions, questioning and reacting techniques that
teacher make use of. The types of questions that teachers ask and their manner
of questioning and reacting to students responses have bearing on class
interaction.
