other faraway places, so how about sharing some of your trips with fellow members? Just a short blurb or a long narrative or
whatever you feel comfortable writing and sending it to LAC Newsletter at one of the following addresses:

A short comment on Lebanon Day 2019 – What a wonderful tribute to our club for honoring the U.S. Beirut Veterans who
served with the International Peace Keeping Force in Lebanon during the early 1980’s. The rains stopped and the sky opened
up with blue skies and bright sun. Special congratulations to co-chairs Tom Saadi and Joe Walkovich for a wonderful event. I
am keeping this section short so that all recent club functions can be covered as well as pictures from these events.
Thoughts to Live By:
“The amount of satisfaction you get from life depends largely on your own ingenuity, self-sufficiency, and resourcefulness.
People who wait around for life to supply their satisfaction usually find boredom instead.” William C. Menninger, American
scientist, physician, engineer. (1899-1966)
“When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t. Thomas Edison, American Inventor (1847-1931).
A Little Humor:
“Reasoning with a child is fine, if you can reach the child’s reason without destroying your own.” John Mason Brown,
American essayist (1900-1969).
“Ninety-eight percent of all statistics are made up.” Author unknown.

formally honored the service of American military personnel in Lebanon in conjunction with the Government of
Lebanon." Said Lebanon American Day Co-Chair Joseph Walkovich. "It was an honor to recognize these men,
who served in Lebanon in support of the multinational peacekeeping mission and remember their comrades who made the
supreme sacrifice in that noble mission." Said Commissioner Saadi,

Ladies Auxiliary News by President Betty Najm
We hope you are enjoying your summer! Stay cool and be safe! Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept.10 at 7 PM.
Our Program Chairperson, Mary Elizabeth Salame, is organizing a “Taste of Lebanon” Wine, Beer and Spirits in
Sept. at the Maron Hotel’s private room from 7 to 9 pm. The date needs to be changed to Friday, Sept. 13, since
there is a conflict. The cost will be $30 per person for delicious hot and cold appetizers and a sampling of Lebanese
spirits! This new fundraiser will allow the club to raise more funds to help with some of our new charity events, like
the St. Jude Run/Walk and other community programs.
On June 30, the club honored our Beirut Veterans who served in Lebanon in the 1980’s.
Victoria Beylouni, the Vice President, spoke at the luncheon on behalf of the Ladies’ Auxiliary and she welcomed
everyone that attended. She addressed them by saying,
“For those of you that served our nation, whether in war or peace, I want to acknowledge our gratefulness and
appreciation for your service! My son is also a 20 year veteran who served in the Air Force on overseas missions,
so as a mother I understand the sacrifice on both sons and mothers who pray and wait for their sons to return home.
I lived in Beirut during the time our Marine Barrack was bombed, and I remember the devastation and chaos that it
created. My heart was grieved as I knew many of our young men lost their lives. Due to this, I returned to the USA,
and my son who I tried to keep from knowing war and its effects, chose to join the US Airforce. He served for 20
years on many dangerous missions.
The one thing, I do know, is that veterans are not always appreciated for what they do, so we can have peace. Many
times people take for granted your duty and service to this great country. Serving overseas can be daunting, but
especially in Lebanon where tensions are high and the political landscape unpredictable. Hats off to you, God Bless
you and God Bless America!”
I want to personally acknowledge and thank Peter Delucia, who served in Beirut and all the Veterans that attended
this wonderful event!
I hope to see many of you at St. Anthony’s Mahrajan on Fri., Aug. 16 and Sat. Aug. 17 and St. Ann’s Lobster
and Steak Dinner on Aug. 24.
