INTRODUCTION
Change is inevitable. It is the only constant thing in this
world. It encompasses all aspects of life that even the field
of education is not an excused to such. Instructions, strategies
and methods continuously elevate to cater the needs of the
learners whose intelligences vary from one to other. A dynamic
way of teaching instructions has been a common answer to the
advancement and modernization of society.

In the modernization of Philippine education, its primary

role is to secure the sustainability of quality education. Thus,
the Department of Education has come up with new programs
instilling the learners with life skills which will be valuable
to them as they continue their after-school journey. Hence,
pursuing updated technology has become Deped’s one of their
topmost priorities. This leads towards the transformation of
education through providing schools with technologies that would
enhance the teaching-learning process which would also meet the
challenges of the 21st century teachers and learners.

Here then come the innovations and implementations of new

teaching instructions. One of which is the utilization of
digital diversity wherein Information Communication Technology
(ICT) integration has touched all the wakes of human lives and
made the tasks easier, more convenient and of better quality.
This leads to the application of E-classroom.

E-classroom is an online learning environment where online

course materials will be coupled with periodic online testing
and are combined to provide spiral educational programming. This
is a program that is readily programmed in the computer which
needs not to be downloaded. It is a perfect avenue for students
and teachers to interact. It makes conducting lessons easier.
This includes features such as desktop sharing, recording of
lessons, chatting, annotating, hosting of multiple users,
whiteboard for drawing and demonstration. E-classroom is a
feature-rich, yet a user-friendly tool for both individual and
group classes.
In today’s world, millennial are inclined to technology.
They are termed as “digital natives” for the fact that they are
outrageously literate in using the computers and/or any gadgets.
To cater the needs of the students, Quipper School was
established.

According to Campos, 2016, Quipper School, is a free e-

learning platform that empowers teachers to streamline teaching
methods and class management, and enables students to learn in a
fun and effective way. Headquartered in London, the company has
offices in Manila, Tokyo, Jakarta and Mexico City, and is
currently used by 150,000 teachers and 2 million students across
the four countries.

For the past two years, Quipper’s e-learning service

provider has been in the forefront of advancing the learning
level of Filipino students through tools employing information
and communications technology. It has also helped teachers use
instructional methods which inspire students to learn even their
most disliked subjects.

Quipper School provides lessons and tests for ages 8-18,

created with the help of experienced educators. It is always
ready, whether for class or homework assignments and teachers
can receive instant feedback on students’ performance, identify
strengths and weaknesses in a matter of clicks, and leave the
red pen in the drawer.

With the growth and development of the internet and

multimedia technologies, education industry breaks through the
traditional educational model. E-classroom and Quipper provide
schools with appropriate technologies that enhance the teaching-
learning process and meet the challenges of the 21st century.

To meet the demands and challenges of the 21st century, educators

play vital roles in every child's education. Classroom nowadays is a
very different place than it was fifteen or even five years ago.
Before, students learn through textbooks or taking exams and quizzes
on worksheets. Teachers on the other hand used to lecture lessons in
front of the classroom. Today, students work in collaboration and
teachers are not just lecturers but facilitates and guides students
(Cox, 2013).

Adapting to the new trend is remarkably challenging for teachers

especially those used to traditional way of teaching. It is important
to acknowledge that students are already interested and engaged in
using technology for it creates many amazing opportunities (Savvidis,
2016). There has been a remarkable advancement of technology and
teachers must advance with it too. Teachers are expected to take
professional development courses to make it possible for them to learn
how to use and integrate technology into their everyday lessons (Cox,
2013).

There are countless reasons why technology is a key aspect of

learning in the school. Wantulok (2015) suggested reasons why
technology should be used in the classroom, the following are as
follows; students demand it, new teachers are demanding it, learners
are the digital native, learners can learn at their own pace, with
technology, there are no limitations, technology has the ability to
enhance relationships between teachers and students, testing has gone
online, multitude of resources, technology keeps kids engaged,
technology is necessary to succeed outside of primary and secondary
education.

As the digital world develops, the education system adapts. Being

a teacher in the digital era needs to be open-minded and willing to
adapt the new trend. The digital world has so much to offer. It has
the potential to reach more children than ever before. It has the
potential to create more career opportunities for teachers and it also
has the capability to motivate unmotivated students to engage more in
classroom interactions.

Cox (2013) has enumerated simple ways to motivate students which

are the following; appeal to their interest, utilize technology, keep
learning fresh, offer incentives, and praise your students. Through
these ways, students will be motivated to not just do their tasks, but
also to like it. Thus, making the school a place where students do not
just learn but to have fun as well.

Technology also has the ability to promote positive student

behavior ( Bielefeld, 2016). This includes focusing on the task or
assignment, making positive statements to peers, completing work,
complying with the teacher's request, reading pages of text during
study periods and lastly completing Math computation problems.
Technology indeed is a powerful tool that can support and transform
education in many ways, making it easier for teachers to create
instructional materials and enabling new ways for people to learn and
work together. Through the convergence of traditional and modern
methods, students get to experience the best of both worlds, they can
learn in school and get additional lessons through the Internet.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter reviews some of the literatures that have
significant bearings in this study.

Instruction inside the four walls in the classroom tells us

the detailed information about the proper operation and detailed
information that must be implemented by the teacher.
Professional educators have developed a variety of programs
designed to produce classroom learning. As a student-centered
learning, there are varieties of projects of the Department of
Education that are very effective inside the classroom and help
them to increase and improve student’s retention. These
different projects identify different desired learning outcomes
and propose different instructional practices.

DepEd Order no. 78, s 2010 or known as the Guidelines on

the implementation of the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP)
mandates promotion of the right of all citizens to take
appropriate steps in making education accessible to all. The
transformation on education is through (DCP). It aims to provide
public schools with the technology that would develop and
enhance the teaching-learning process to meet the needs of 21st
century learners.

Quipper

Quipper is a United Kingdom-based technology company that

specializes in online-based education solutions. According to
Campus (2016), Quipper is a reliable education-oriented
technology company that aims to enhance and/or upgrade the
quality of education by transforming the teaching and learning
experience of its users. In connection to this, E-Learning
service provider like Quipper helps Filipino learners through
didactive and interactive processes of learning with effective
tools for information and communications that will employ
success in instruction methods.

As part of the contingency plan of the school, adding that

Quipper was the alternative delivery mode of learning (Mocon-
Ciriaco, 2014).The said App can be used whenever the students
are, meaning teachers can give assignment and other tasks with
easy access using tablet or computers and the like at home.

For the last two years, more than one million Filipino
students, with National Capital Region (NCR) obtaining the
highest percent of users, are utilizing Quipper to enhance the
quality education. According to the Quipper Philippines
Marketing Manager, Seleena Kate Mal, about 1,400 schools in 165
divisions all over the country are presently registered to
Quipper. Almost 200, 000 students are functionally enjoying the
free e-learning system. It organizes multiple classes through
customized dashboard and allows to send and schedule their
assignments; and to assess individual performances (Campos,
2016).

Takuya Homma, Quipper Marketing Director, said that Quipper

School, launched in January 2014, is now used by over 20,000
teachers and more than 100,000 students nationwide.

According to Raymond San Juan as cited in the article of

Mocon-Ciriaco (2014) Quipper served as an alternative medium of
delivering learning to prevent gaps especially when classes are
suspended. Peter Cannon Jr., Pasay City National High School
principal, in the same article added that it is aligned to the K
to 12 Curriculum. Another principal from New Era Elementary
School contended that Quipper is a tool to improve the
performance of students in the National Achievement Test.

E-Classroom

E-classroom as part of our educational technology

eliminates the barrier to quickly access new information in the
field of research and bridges the gap between the rich and the
poor, and urban to remote areas to quest for quality
learning. E-classroom enhances and motivates the students
thereby accelerating learning. Benefits of using E-classroom
includes reducing costs of instructional materials, better
utilizing of teacher’s time, encouraging students to pursue
higher degree of learning opportunities. These can be very
useful specifically in rural areas where accessing of
information overcomes distance (Leoncio, 2013).

Indeed the use of E-classroom uplifts the level of

education. In fact a study made by researchers from Lancaster
University confirmed that computer integrated strategies do have
a positive impact on the students’ learning. Increased
confidence and improved motivation were among the benefits
reported (McCormack, 2004). However, issues arise in connection
to the utilization of ICT inside the classroom, particularly in
the Philippines. A study made by Lumayag and Albaracin from
Cebu Technological University showed that majority of the
respondents revealed lack of facilities. Respondents also
claimed that they have never used ICT devices such as headphones
and scanner. They also never accessed softwares such as Windows,
VLC media player, Microsoft publisher etc. (Lumayag and
Albaracin, 2016).
E-Learning
Technological advances had greatly changed the education
landscape that teaching is no longer limited to the traditional
face to face delivery of lessons (Espinosa, 2016). The study of
Oye et al. (2016), examines the application of e-learning model
to explain the acceptance of e-learning technology in academic
setting. Their study mainly focuses on the relationship of
students‟ use of e-learning and their academic performance.
Their results show that e-learning improves student academic
performance. According to these authors positive perception of
e-learning is essential to foster the use of e-learning.
Although students‟ attitude influence the intention to use the
e-learning, the actual use of e-learning improves the academic
performance of students.
In a research conducted by Lavin et al, (2011), students
whose instructors used technology moderately or extensively in
class were asked how the absence of technology would impact
their learning on the course. Student responses indicated that
the removal of technology from the class would have a negative
impact on content learned in class, their attentiveness in
class, their desire to make more lessons from that particular
teacher, and their desire to make more lessons in the subject
area.
Another paper by Lumadi et al. (2016) addresses the impact
of e-learning on the academic performance of student- teachers.
They conducted an experiment to determine if student- teacher
taught using method of e-learning performed better that student-
teacher taught using the traditional method of teaching and
learning. Their findings suggests that e-learning has a
significant influence on the performance of students as student-
teachers taught using e-learning consistently perform better
than student teacher taught using the traditional method. In
their conclusion, e-learning was found to have a significant
effect on student-teachers. They supported an initial
professional development of student-teachers based on e-learning
technologies, change in training approaches, strategies and
activities in order to meet the educational challenges. Their
study was focused on South Africa and could be useful to
developing countries such as Philippines.

More recent studies (Kim et al, 2010) suggest that in order for
teachers to appropriately and effectively integrate technology into
classrooms, training pre service teachers in schools is necessary to
the future of their teaching behaviors, because simply “ access to
technology is not enough today” (Mosenson & Johnson, 2008) to foster a
meaningful learning experience. Furthermore, Efe indicates that
“teacher training is very important in the development of future
teachers' knowledge and skills regarding educational technology”.

Proper Usage of Technology

The usage of technology can be adopted by teachers from training

institutions, coaching centers, learning advance courses, attending
workshops, crash courses or online learning program. Weizenbaum argues
that, lack of appropriate guidelines limit the teachers’ to use the
technology for instruction and limits the desire to explore the use of
technology beyond basic applications, “computers can be a powerful
tool for understanding many aspects of the world.”

In the article of Shahneaz and Akhter (2014), Sprague et al

argues that using technology for instruction should include mastery of
the techniques to apply it to teaching. Teacher’s knowledge of using
technology helps them to think how to integrate it into day to day
instructions in the classroom teaching because of the following:
technology used as a cognitive tool helps students in understanding
concepts, develop conceptual models and solve problems; technology
used as communication tool fosters discourse and collaboration among
educators, students, parents, and the community; Technology used as
management tool increases efficiency for teachers and students;
technology used as an evaluation tool helps teachers reflect on a
modify instruction and provides feedback on student learning; and
technology used as a motivational tool encourages and engages students
in learning.

The Department of Education is geared towards

transformation of education thru providing public schools with
technologies that would enhance the teaching learning process
and meet the challenges of the 21st century. We researchers, aim
to assist and contribute to the betterment of the Philippine
Education System by conducting a seminar to the pre-service
teachers and professional teachers which would give awareness
and attentiveness to the advancement that the E-classroom
brings.
CONCLUSION

The evolution of technology has contributed a lot to the

advancement and modernization of the society. It may be in
medical filed, marketing, psychological research, finance, and
even the field of education. Hence, the Philippine education has
been changed and updated which leads to the development and
refinement of learning strategies, techniques and methods of
teaching instruction to cater and uphold the millennial students
Integration of technology in the teaching instruction is a
necessary step in today’s generation because of the fast
changing world. Nowadays, learners are media-oriented which must
be given into account by the educators to secure sustainable
quality education. That’s the reason why, there are many
innovations to address and embrace the dynamic nature.

In order to uphold and deal with today’s generation, the

implementation of the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP) for E-
Classroom learning has been realized which mandates the right of
all citizens to take appropriate steps in making education
available and accessible to everybody. Thus, application of
quipper has been widely practiced as versatile and valuable e-
learning tool for effective-learning process

The most challenging part to effectively employ this e-

learning tool in the class is the role of the teachers. Since,
they are the front liners in the educative process they must be
well-prepared and well-equipped to appropriately undertake the
situation following proper etiquettes in the usage of e-
classroom.
