Abandon Pets

In Colombia, animal abandonment is a problem that interests the minority, but due
to its social impact it is a problem that affects the all population. The animal
abandonment is an act of abuse and cruelty to animals due to first are domesticate
and if later abandonment these would have few chance of surviving in a world they
are not accustomed. Even knowing that in this country the abandonment animal is
punish through the law 1774 of 2016 many people commit in this crime. According
to studies produced in later years among the mains reasons of abandonment
animal are highline: overpopulation, change of family house, economics factors,
aggressive pets and allergies.
The law 1774 of 2016 decrees in article 339A, that anyone who mistreats an
animal causing serious injuries and even death will go to jail for 12 to 36 months
and will be fined between 5 and 60 times the legal monthly minimum wage
(SMMLV).
Overpopulation is a problem caused by a bad family planning, in general, the not
sterilization is the main cause of this problem;other cause is the change of family
house, in this country some many house in rent is prohibited to have pets, so many
families abandon the pets for this reason.
Behavioral problems are the most common reason why people give up their pets
because they create risks to members of the family group;On the other hand, the
loss of employment can be critical time for the family economy, given that
expenses must be adjusted to cover the basic needs of household members. On
occasion, families choose to separate from their pets.
To abandon a pets have some consequence, a pets in the streets is bad for the
society due to what in some cases the pets weren’t vaccinated and if some people
are bitten can to sick or even to kill them, also a pets can cause a car accident or
to sick of madness to a human or another pets.
A shelter could be a solution, because as long as we do not rise awareness that it
is our responsibility, the care of our pets, will be needed to accommodate the
neediest. People may think that by having a shelter, they can be delimited from the
responsibility and care of them. To not pass this and be abused, they would have
to give house-to-house talks, handouts, etc. To raise awareness of the importance
of assuming responsibility for the possession of pets, the important thing of
castration, vaccines, diseases and that adoption benefits us to reduce this
problem.
We Can conclude that although there are many factors that induce the
abandonment of animals, this is a cultural problem, a problem of lack of
awareness, many people are lacking in humanity and do not see pets as another
being but as an object and when it goes out of fashion, this ugly or just do not like
discarded or change for another better.
