8. (a) An axial load of 4×10 N is applied at 30°C to the road as shown in the figure.
Temperature is then raised to 60°C. Calculate the following,
1. Assemble the K and F matrices.
2. Nodal displacements.
3. Stresses in each element.
4. Reactions at each nodal points.
For AlumiiIum,
𝐴 = 1000𝑚𝑚2 , E = 0.7×105 N/𝑚𝑚2 , α = 23×10−6 /°C.
For Steel,
𝐴 = 1500𝑚𝑚2 , E = 2×105 N/𝑚𝑚2 , α = 12×10−6 /°C. (10 Marks)
9. (a) Derive the equation for 2D plane stress solid mechanic problem. (10 Marks)
(b) For the plane stress element whose co-ordinates are given by A (100,100) B (400,100)
C (200,400). The nodal displacements are u1= 2mm, v1=1mm, u2=1mm, v2=1.5 mm,
u3=2.5mm, v3= 0.5 mm. Determine the element stress. Assume, E = 200 GN/𝑚2 , µ=0.3, t=10
