Permasense® provides complete non-intrusive

Ageing plant, greater fluid corrosiveness,
tightening health and safety requirements,
and the environmental costs of a leakage

As Oil & Gas operators produce and process
ever more corrosive and erosive hydrocarbon
streams, the demands on metallurgy increase.
Direct, accurate and sufficiently frequent
measurement of pipework thickness to
accurately identify trends is rarely feasible
with manual inspection methods. Coupled
with this are the challenges involved with
manual inspection, such as accessibility and
avoidance of safety risks to personnel.
Continuous corrosion monitoring provides
asset and integrity managers with an up-to-
date picture of how infrastructure is coping
with the demands placed upon it.
The reliable, accurate wall thickness trend
data delivered by Permasense systems
informs decision making about the timing of
maintenance and replacement. It also informs
optimisation of corrosion prevention and
mitigation strategies, and furthers understanding
of the impact of feedstock decisions.
We have developed sophisticated data
management and viewing software as an
integral part of the Permasense solution to
support data interpretation, this software offers
both an overview of all locations monitored at
a facility, and drill-down functionality.
Permasense continuous corrosion monitoring
systems are deployed in over 100 facilities in 25
countries across 5 continents. Super-major and
privately-held Oil & Gas operators have adopted
them for upstream and downstream facilities in
onshore and offshore environments.
The systems have been conceived from the
outset to be cost-effective for large scale
deployment, and some facilities have systems
comprised of thousands of sensors.
Permasense systems are delivering data where
inspection personnel availability is limited,
for example, Arctic locations, where access is
difficult or restricted such as offshore locations,
or where risk to personnel is high due to
inaccessibility or high temperature.

combined with various range-extension
devices to extend wireless communication
between monitoring locations and gateway
location to up to 16 km (10 miles). Thus
Permasense data can be retrieved with ease
from extremely remote locations such as
facility pipelines, onshore production field
well pads and unmanned satellite platforms.
