Lesson Plan in English 7

I. Objectives:

At the end of the discussion, the Grade 7 students are expected to:
a. define meanings of prefixes and suffixes;
b. discover meanings of unfamiliar words by breaking down the parts; and
c. form new words which contain prefixes and suffixes.

Motivation Present words and ask the students what they have noticed Teacher and Students

Objectives You will be able to know the meanings of prefixes, Teacher and Students
suffixes, root words and base words; discover meanings of -DLP
unfamiliar words by breaking down the parts; and construct
new words which contain prefixes and suffixes.

Information and Today’s lesson is mainly about prefixes and suffixes. You Teacher and Students
Examples will find out their meanings and then give examples for -DLP
each. Afterwards, you will be constructing new words using
prefixes and suffixes.

A prefix is a word part added to the beginning of the root


word or base word.
Examples:
dis- do the negative or dislike,
opposite, exclude, absence disapprove
of, not
non- not nonreturnable,
nonfiction
re- to do again replay, rewind
un- not, giving negative or unseen, unfelt,
opposite meaning unfair
pre- before premature,
preview,
prepackage
mis- not, wrongly misunderstood,
misjudge,
misquote
ex- from, out, out of, away from; exit, explosion,
former ex-mayor
con- together; with; jointly compact,
com- conjoin,
combine

A suffix is a word part added to the end of the root word


or base word.
Examples:
-er a person who singer, batter,
designer
-er action or process fluster, hyper
-er more – compares two fatter, taller,
things happier
-ful full of peaceful,
successful
-less without homeless,
helpless
-ness state or quality kindness,
(turns word into a noun) sadness
-ible can be done corruptible,
flexible,
-ion action or process election,
elevation
-ist one who does an action artist, dentist
-or one who visitor, actor,
tailor
-ment action or process development,
argument,
excitement

Practice and Teacher will divide the students into two groups (boys vs. Students
Feedback girls). Boys will have to give examples of words with suffix
while girls will give words with prefixes.

Summary Students will give the difference between prefixes and Students
suffixes.
