Information Technology Specialist Job Description
Information technologists generally design, operate or maintain technology products.
Not limited to employment with technology companies, information technology (IT)
specialists may work with any businesses, agencies or organizations that use
technology or manage large amounts of information. Regardless of the sector they work
in, IT specialists usually provide similar services related to software, hardware,
databases, Web resources, networks and enterprise systems.
Duties of an information technology specialist can include network management,
software development and database administration. IT specialists may also provide
technical support to a business or an organization's employees and train non-technical
workers on the business's information systems. Advanced information technology
specialists may design systems and assess the effectiveness of technology resources
already in use or new systems that are being implemented. Additionally, they will
determine the practicality of changes and modification of systems.
IT specialists will also work with external partners, including consultants, agencies and
vendors, to arrive at the most appropriate system or integration of multiple systems.
With information technology constantly changing, specialists must stay up-to-date on
emerging technologies and the potential effectiveness of these advancements in their
current system.

Under this strand, you can learn writing computer programs, illustrating, and designing
websites. You will also be taking up technical drafting, animation, and java programming
that would be essential if you are planning to work on creative technological field. Other
subjects in the strand are medical transcription and telecom installation which are
relevant to the telecommunications industry.
Information Communication Technology students gain knowledge and skills needed to
effectively apply, use and manage technology when solving problems specifically
related to information and communication. ICT majors may pursue one of two
concentrations. ICT Commercialization: Focuses on ICT as an enabling tool to drive
economic growth. Technology Management: Focuses on using technology to provide a
stable operating environment. NEW: ICT is excited to annouce their new track-
Information Studies. The information studies track allows students to learn how
information can be created, communicated, stored, and/or transformed to benefit
individuals, organizations, and society. In our information based society, teaching
practical skills for analyzing, processing, managing information that will allow them to
then create technology-based solutions using a user-centered approach and evaluate
the roles of information in a variety of organizational settings is a valuable skill set that is
currently sought by employers.

information and communication technology workers are broader than core technical
