1. INTRODUCTION
This report details with the result of Vertical initial pile load test (in compression) conducted
on a Test pile (P-5) to access the safe load carrying capacity of pile provided for the proposed
Construction of “70 TPD Air Separation Plant” at KMML, Chavara, Kollam District. The test is
conducted as per IS 2911 (Part IV)-2013 and the observations are noted in the standard data format.

a) Hydraulic Jack
i. Model No = SS300
ii. Ram Dia of Jack = 26 cm
iii. Area of Ram = (3.142 x 26 x 26)/4 = 530.66 cm2
b) Pressure Gauge
i. L.C of Pressure Gauge = 10 Kg /cm2
ii. Pressure gauge make = TIWAC
iii. Pressure gauge no = 12171350
iv. Load per div in P.gauge = Ram area x LC of Pressure Gauge
= 530.66 cm2 x 10 kg /cm2
= 5306.6 kg
= 5.31 M T.
v. Date of Calibration = 26-May-2018
vi. Due Date of Calibration = 25-May-2018
c) Dial Gauges
5. DETAILS OF KENTLEDGE
As per IS 2911 – Part IV the Total kentledge load required for conducting the load test is 25%
extra of test load.
Kentledge Required = 1.25 * (Test Load)
= 1.25 * (1.5 * Design Load)
= 1.25 * 1.5 * 80
= 150 M.T

The test should be carried out by applying a series of vertical downward incremental load
each increment being of about 20 percent of safe load on pile.

7. LOAD TEST SETUP
A platform of 6.5 m X 6.0 m and 2.5 m height is made by placing Main girder of ISMB
400 Sections and ISMB 300 as secondary girder above them in the perpendicular direction. Kent
ledge is filled with sand bag and placed all around. The test Pile head was made smooth and leveled
with POP. A bearing plate was placed on the head of pile for the jack to rest. Loads were applied by
means of hydraulic jack, reacting against a loaded platform. Hydraulic jack was placed l on the test
pile and the gap is filled in between the jack and the main girder by placing suitable steel packing.
Load applied is with a 300 MT capacity Hydraulic jack and is applied as recommended. Four dial
gauges of 0.01 mm least count placed 90 degree angles to each other on a plate placed over the pile
but below the jack, and the needle of the dial gauge is placed over a platform coming downwards
from the datum bars placed 2.00 m away from the face of the pile with strong concrete.

Total settlement = 3.500 mm
= 3.500 mm – 1.522 mm
Rebound = 1.977 mm
% of Rebound = 56.48 %
Total load applied is 122.13 Metric Tones and the Total settlement is 3.500 mm. Rebound
observed while releasing the load is 1.977 mm. There for the net settlement during this pile load test
is 1.522 mm. Which is well within the limits prescribed by the IS Code 2911(Part 4) 2013. Hence
the pile is safe for, design load of 80 Metric Tons.
