Hello Everyone and Happy New Year!

This is my first letter in our Asia Pacific @Ford

magazine, and I’d like to start by saying it is an
incredible honour and privilege to lead such a
hard-working and talented group of people.

As we begin what promises to be an exciting 2013, we

should also take a moment to celebrate the wonderful
accomplishments of 2012. For example, we opened
new assembly plants in China and Thailand and
successfully launched Focus in four new plants

and Ranger in two. We had record sales for Focus,
Ranger, Mondeo and Edge, and thanks to everyone’s
hard work, we sold nearly 1 million wholesale 03 Global watch

A hundred years after Henry Ford developed the world’s

part of the largest expansion the company has undertaken in half
a century.
Gary Johnson, the vice president for manufacturing operations in
AP, is overseeing the construction of four new assembly plants
and three engine plants in the region, and said there is no denying
the magnitude of the task ahead.
“People use the word unprecedented a lot, but what we’re doing
really hasn’t ever been done before. It’s not just about opening
seven new plants. We have to make sure that each and every
plant, each and every employee, and every one of our partners in
every market in this region is working as a team to build the best
vehicles possible,” he said.
Just building the vehicles won’t be enough. With 67 per cent of

number of dealerships in China will have more than doubled from
the 340 that existed at the end of 2010. Similarly, 45 new sales
and service outlets will be added across India, taking the network
there to 123 cities. In the first half of 2013 alone, Ford will be
expanding its dealership network in the Philippines by 20 per
cent.
Ford’s expansion at AP comes at a crucial time for the region,

Ford Philippines gave away an all-new Focus Titanium+ after
thousands of people got involved in a campaign that showed
off the car’s incredible technology.

The “All-New Ford Focus… Start it. Share it. Win it.” campaign gave more than
1,000 people the chance to personally experience the first-in-market and
first-in-segment features of the all-new Focus, with interactive sessions held
over 12 weeks throughout Metro Manila.
Each participant was filmed during their ‘smart demo’, capturing their reactions
to the high-tech features, including Active Park Assist, which allows the car
to parallel-park itself.
The videos were uploaded to Facebook, where they were viewed more than
150,000 times. The winner in each market was determined by whose video
was watched most. The campaign also generated more than 55,000 ‘likes’

great pleasure of working with some remarkable people, in fascinating assignments all over the world. I am a very strong believer
in nurturing and developing people and do my best to live by our One Ford behaviours of how we treat people. Importantly, I also
have high expectations that those I work with will do the same.

Q: What are your priorities

for 2013 and as the new
president of AP?
D: This is an amazing opportunity and I
am honoured to lead this team and
continue to drive our aggressive expan-
sion. The future of Ford in Asia Pacific is
@Ford AP January / February 2013

very exciting. Our priorities for 2013 are

all about delivering on our plan, particu-
larly demonstrating that we can and will
be a key part of the company’s profitable
growth. In particular this year, we must
deliver great launches of the vehicles our
customers want and value.

My personal priorities are to support the

markets in delivery of their plans and to
work with all of our teams to develop our
future talent so we can ensure our future
success.

Leadership

Q: How will AP deliver profitable

growth?
D: The most important thing we do is deliver on our plan.
We all must remain conscious of the significant invest-
ment the company is making here – with seven new
plants being built to take advantage of the growth – and
we must never forget our responsibility to deliver on that
investment.

This year, I look forward to working together with the

entire team to deliver flawless and on-time launches of
the new products for our customers. And while 2013 is a
big year for product in Asia Pacific, we have even more
world-class products coming in 2014 and beyond. The
groundwork we can deliver this year in terms of brand
reputation and purchase consideration will go a long way
to ensuring our future profitable growth in this region.

As an Asia Pacific team, we also must continue our

relentless pursuit for ways to accelerate this profitable
growth. We will continue with the robust process we
have been using to track profits weekly as well as identify
and track additional opportunities. It has allowed us to
focus on key profit drivers, such as building every vehicle
we can.

And, as we have discussed before, we all must be

conscious of our spending and work together to elimi-
nate unnecessary costs as well as maximize the effec-
tiveness of the investments we make.

Q: Do we have the adequate amount

of talent resources in the company
to achieve our growth objectives
around the world... especially our
growth in Asia Pacific?
D: Ensuring we have the right talent in the right positions
while balancing the costs of those resources is a key
process we are working through in Asia Pacific. We
realise that we must invest for our growth and that is
why we are increasing retail and manufacturing capacity
in our growth markets in addition to growing our work-
force aggressively. Also, while we grow our workforce, we
also are working to increase the experience and knowl-
edge of our locally available talent for Ford’s long-term
success. This is a key process that gets global attention
and support across the skill teams.

Q: How does AP fit into Ford glob-

ally?
D: We are at the epicenter of the majority of Ford’s
@Ford AP January / February 2013

growth over the next decade (60-70%), and as such, we

have an obligation to deliver on our plan. We have a great
plan and extraordinarily talented and hard-working
people here - and very importantly -- we have the full
support of Ford’s global leadership, so I am very optimis-
tic and excited about our future.

he said.
FLH President Thomas Fann encouraged employees and business partners to go further
for success.
“I strongly believe we together, under the One Ford strategy and the great One Team tradition, shall open a wonderful chapter of the

Super snakes 2013 will be the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac – and although the animal might get a
bad press, these Ford employees show that snakes still have plenty of reasons to ssssmile

Q People born under the sign of the snake are said to be calm, refined and attractive; they value their privacy and do not get flustered
easily – does this describe you?

I had not heard about the characteristics of the sign of the Snake before - it sounds interesting. I think they all fit me except for attractiveness.
However, I believe every Ford team member should try to be calm & refined.

I can remain calm on big decisions, while a bit impulsive on small ones.

It’s not really true for me. Preferring privacy and being refined is accurate, but I am not a calm person and I get flustered easily when it comes to
women.

Q Have you ever wished you had been born under a different sign, or are you happy being a snake? If you could choose, which
animal would you be, and why?
Although I might have been born under the sign of the Snake due to my parents’ miscalculation, I think Snake is good. At least, we won’t face the
intense competition Dragon babies do. But if it was something I could choose, I would want to be born under the sign of Dog, because I love the
animal.

I thought being born under Rabbit would have been much cuter when I was younger, but now I think it is kind of special to be a Snake.

I am a very demanding person and always unsatisfied with what I have done or got. I have not seen any significance or bad luck because of
having been born under the sign of the Snake, but if I could, I would go with theYear of Dragon. To Eastern people, Dragon is a symbol of prosper-
ity and power and those characteristics seem more attractive to me.

Q What are you hoping to achieve this year?

I hope FLH can get extra support from AP executives who will visit us this year. I also hope the product under my responsibility will sell well.

I hope I can get used to my new position and be good at it soon.

Snake is a special animal. After a biological cycle, it sheds its skin to be stronger. For 2013, I also want to have a “moult” like the snake’s to refresh
myself and be ready to achieve good things for family, society and the company.

Q What message do you have for your fellow snakes in Ford AP?

No matter if you are an “old Snake”, or “young Snake”, I wish you a good fortune this year.

I heard that the year of the animal in which you were born will be significant for you. So, I hope no matter whether if it’s good or bad, you can
maintain a good mood.

For my fellow Snakes in Ford AP, I hope you all have a chance to “moult” and have success in any fields. Don’t let the year pass by without any
memorable things and moments happening, as it will be 12 years until the next Year of the Snake.
