CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter includes the background of the study, statement of the problem,

significance of the study, theoretical and conceptual framework, hypothesis,

scope and limitations of the study, and definition of terms.

Background of the Study

A mobile application, most commonly referred to as an app, is a type of

application software designed to run on a mobile device, such as a smartphone

or tablet computer. According to techopedia, mobile applications frequently serve

to provide users with similar services to those accessed on PCs. Apps are

generally small, individual software units with limited function. This use of app

software was originally popularized by Apple Inc. and its App Store, which offers

thousands of applications for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. In addition, a

mobile application also may be known as an app, web app, online app, iPhone

app or smartphone app.

Mobile applications are a move away from the integrated software

systems generally found on PCs. Instead, each app provides limited and isolated

functionality such as a game, calculator or mobile web browsing. Although

applications may have avoided multitasking because of the limited hardware

STI

resources of the early mobile devices, their specificity is now part of their

desirability because they allow consumers to hand-pick what their devices are

able to do.

The simplest mobile apps take PC-based applications and port them to a

mobile device. As mobile apps become more robust, this technique is somewhat

lacking. A more sophisticated approach involves developing specifically for the

mobile environment, taking advantage of both its limitations and advantages. For

example, apps that use location-based features are inherently built from the

ground up with an eye to mobile given that the user does not have the same

concept of location on a PC.

This research focuses on the insights of the selected users about their

experience in using the iTask Application whether it has a difference on other

similar to-do list application’s features, functionalities, and user-interface. The

study explores how the application can help to ease the problem of time

management. This study has five objectives; to know the demographic profile of

the respondents, the ease of use of the application, the user-interface quality, the

value proposition, and the overall experience of the user.

This study takes place in STI College – Global City only, therefore findings

of this study may be of help to the said community.

STI

People nowadays forget some of the things they need to do because of

overloaded tasks and they tend to think hardly that cost a lot of time. So, many

believe that people must have their own personal assistant to help in scheduling

their task in order to make it their routine more efficient and effective. This is

because people prefer to know what to do just because they cannot turn back the

time that passed with nothing.

There are bunch of task manager application available today on play store

providing different features to user. Task manager application played an

important role in life, it makes us remember the things we need to do.

So we created iTask, an application that helps us to remind some things

we forget easily and reduce the task load that might be hard to remember all the

things in our mind. So, it can simple make it user’s life easier, smooth and avoid

delayed.

With this task manager, all the struggles can be solve. This is because,

“iTask” can help to organize your task. The purpose of this study is to create an

application that will help the users to remember what they should do next.

In summary, this study aims to propose iTask as a mobile application that

makes to write the task that they need to do with the designated due date. This
STI

study aims to propose iTask and see if this has the potential to be published in

play stores.

Statement of the Problem

The focus of this research is to assess feedback of users towards iTask

Application.

This research deals with managing task through mobile application.

Specifically, the study should be able to answer the question if the application is

worth installing and if it can really help the person in managing task. In addition,

this study should be able to identify if there is a difference of features among

other similar applications. This study aimed to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1 Age

1.2 Sex

2 Is the application easy-to-use in term of its:

2.1 Functionality

2.2 User Interactivity

3 Does the application’s user-interface pleasing and attractive to its users?

STI

4 What are the value propositions of Application iTask prototype?

5 What is the overall experience of the users to Application iTask prototype?

Theoretical Framework

Expectation-Disconfirmation Theory

Richard L. Oliver (1977; 1980) proposed the Expectancy-Disconfirmation

Paradigm (EDP) as the most promising theoretical framework for the assessment

of customer satisfaction (A.Yüksel & F. Yüksel, 2008). The theory states that

customers purchase goods and services with beforehand expectations about the

product/service performance. The expectation then becomes a basis or standard

against the product and is judged according to the standard of the customers.

That is if the product or service has been used, outcomes are then compared

against the costumer's expectations. If the outcome matches the customer's

expectation, Confirmation occurs. Disconfirmation, however, occurs when there

is a discrepancy between the customers' expectations and the outcomes. A

customer is either then satisfied or dissatisfied which results to positive or

negative discrepancy between the expectations and perceptions. Thus, when

product and/or service performance exceeds what the customers have expected,

a positive disconfirmation between expectations and performance occurs which

results to satisfaction. While when product and/or service performance is within

the expectation, a confirmation between expectations and perceptions occurs

STI

which results to satisfaction. Meanwhile, when product and/or service

performance is not as good or is not as what the customer had expected, a

negative disconfirmation between expectations and perceptions occurs which

causes dissatisfaction.
STI

Conceptual Framework

Figure below shows research framework of this study which will be used by the

researches in identifying the level of positive reviews towards iTask Application.

Hypothesis

H0

There is a low positive feedback of users in Application iTask prototype in

terms of its ease of use, user-interface, and value proposition.

H1

There is a high positive feedback of users in Application iTask prototype in

terms of its ease of use, user-interface, and value proposition.

The researchers’ hypothesis is alternative hypothesis wherein there will be

a high positive feedback of users in Application iTask prototype in terms of its

ease of use, user-interface, and value proposition.

Significance of the Study

The study of iTask Mobile Application prototype will be helpful in the

developing process of the said application as well as the users which is the main

concern of developing the project. The study will focus on the application’s ease-

of-use, user-interface, value proposition, and the overall experience of the user.

Hence, the researchers target to benefit the following:

 Students. The task reminder application will serves as the notification for

the students who have a lot of things to do in school like projects,

STI

assignments, thesis and many more. In this matter, the students will make

his/her tasks organize and pass it on or before said time of submission. It

also avoids students to procrastinate in every situation that will give

him/her a good advantage for his/her attitude to do a task when future

comes.

 Teacher. The task reminder application will also be a good and friendly

application for the teachers due to the advance and highly programmed

sectors of the application that will satisfy the needs of one user to

accomplish his/her task. In this way, the teacher will also get a notification

on the things that he/she put on the notepad of the task reminder. This will

also help his/her to lessen the stress that a user feels due to the organized

and handy application she/he used.

 Office Staff. Some of us know that working on a field that you desired is

really stressful yet satisfying. 75% percent of the office workers use a

sticky note to keep them notified to the tasks that are given to them. But,

due to the high-tech generation nowadays, doing a task is much easier

and convenient. Using this application, the user will be more organized

and secured because this application is like a digital alarm clock that will

automatically notified you on the task that you should do unlike putting a

sticky notes on the desks.

STI

 Programmers. Our application will be able to help other future

programmers with their task as it can be used as a to-do reminder to

provide an easier way to remember things that are important, also so that

they can input the code that they are supposed to be coding so that they

are able to use it for future reference. We as a future programmer are

always looking for ways to accomplish the things we have to do and this

application will greatly help us in this area.

 Future Researchers. The outcome of this study will be a useful reference

to those future researchers who will explore about developing a to-do list

or any application related in task-reminding application. The study will help

the future researchers in gathering data and facts about the topic.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on determining the feedback of users towards the iTask

Application, a to-do list mobile application. Since a lot of people are having

trouble in managing their time, the productivity of a person became affected and

sometimes results into serious problems. Thus, the researchers aim to address

the concerns of these people and prevent poor time-management.

The researchers conducted this study to Grade 12 Information and

Technology in Mobile Application and Web Development (ITMAWD) students of

STI College – Global City. The questionnaires given to every respondent is

STI

identical to represent the results as significant and to make the research

comprehensive. However, the research is conducted at a limited time which

makes other aspects that occur beyond the limit will not be included.

The study was conducted in STI Global City with the Senior High School

Grade 12 ITMAWD students as the respondents. The researchers calculated the

sample size using Slovin’s formula which resulted to total of 100 respondents.

With Senior High School having a population of 1,308, researchers identified the

percentage of current grade 12 which is a 630, and since ITMAWD students are

the needed respondents, researchers identified the percentage of it which is 133.

Using the Slovin’s formula and the given 133 Grade 12 ITMAWD students, the

researchers get the sample size for the study which is 100 with 0.05 as the

margin of error.

CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter consists of the related literatures about our study, “iTask: A

To-do List Mobile Application”, which will help the readers to have background

knowledge about the said topic.

2.1 Introduction

iTask is the combination of many current applications that has been

existing. The function is to organize the task and to alert as a reminder to the

user through mobile phones. So it will use a system that will organize the task

and schedule it by priority. These apps are useful when people need to

remember their tasks such as events, deadlines and other routine obligation. The

main purpose of this study is to assess the usability of types of reminder apps.

This chapter provides an overview of reminder apps and their features.

People often forget to perform everyday tasks, and they may find it difficult

to recall details related to the tasks they have already completed (Hodges et al.,

2006). For example, people may fail to remember, or ‘forget’, future intentions

such as buying milk or visiting the dentist. Recent technological innovations, such

as smartphone-based reminder apps, can help users to remember future tasks.

STI

The choices people have for spending time and the multiple pressures on

time have increased the interest in tools for helping people to schedule and

manage their tasks and remind them when tasks are due. With the ubiquity and

constant proximity of personal mobile devices, many people are using electronic

reminder apps to assist them. There is a proliferation of such apps with a

diversity of interfaces, features and theoretical foundations. Clearly there is no

one answer to fit all user needs. Insights from this usability study will provide a

basis for selecting reminder apps, and it will guide the design decisions of future

apps.

Figure 2.1: shows all the functionality based operations that can be performed
by user of task reminder.
View scheduled events

Prioritize events References date

Alert
STI

Figure 2.1: iTask Use Case Diagram

2.2 Features of iTask

Task reminder has many features that very useful to the user. The first

that can be described is calendar system. Calendar will be used as a reference

to the dates and the days that users are going to set. The user can view the

current date and month or the previous and next month calendar.

Second functions are organizer that will help to arrange the task with

priority. The user needs to insert the new data or task to database before they

can send SMS as a reminder. The user or admin also can display all the data

that has been inserted before.

2.2.1 RTE

RTE, or Remember the Events, assists users in managing their tasks. The

app is available for the Android-based smartphones, BlackBerry, Evernote and

as a web application. RTE has many features that enable users to manage tasks.

RTE can display all tasks for one week or for the current day.

To add a task (see Figure 2.2), users select the ‘Add Task’ button and:

1. Write the task name

STI

2. Select the due date for the task

Figure 2.2 RTE

The application allows users to select from three due-date types:

• Basic: users simply select the day (e.g., Today, Tomorrow, and Tuesday).

• Picker: users can select the date, hour (am or pm) and minute for the event

(e.g., Monday, February14, 2019 @6:00 pm).

• Custom: users can customize the due date (e.g., next Friday, the end of this

month, in three weeks).

STI

After a task has been created, it can be repeated at specified intervals

(e.g., every day at the same time, every week until 1 January 2016). Users must

enter a time estimate for the task, indicating its duration (e.g., two minutes, 10

minutes, and 1.5 hours). They can be reminded of details associated with the

task, such as “assignment”.

By selecting the ‘Completed’ button on the app’s homepage, users can

view all completed tasks. From here, users can edit the tasks and mark them as

incomplete if necessary. By selecting ‘Incomplete’, users can view all

uncompleted tasks and edit them by selecting the task and changing the due

date, priority, list or tags; they can also choose to postpone the task. All

completed and uncompleted tasks are listed in ascending order by due date.

2.3 Task Manager Apps

Task Management applications have been built for structured

collaboration. They can handle due dates, reminders, dependencies,

discussions, priorities, task descriptions, documentations, task statuses,

assignments, etc. They manage different levels of action and offer complete

workflow management.

Besides, a task management application gives context to your work

because you can organize your tasks in dedicated environments and complete
STI

them on time. It can be found in many applications. When the task that has been

set before is coming to the occurrence time, then the reminder will reply a pop-up

message to the windows in order to inform the user about their task.

2.3.1 The Challenge:

As we can see the difference above between the To-Do & Task Manager

apps, now the challenge was to decide which one to pick, is it solving the

problem for different kind of users, can I mix up the both, etc In the end, I decided

to keep things from both of the categories, few of to-do and few from Task

Management purpose and started the work.

Pain Points

• Adding Task Easily

• Organizing Tasks

• Motivation

• Easy Deleting and Editing Tasks

• Giving Priority

• Shift Pending Tasks

• Keeping it simple, yet effective

STI

• Tasks Category

• Remember Tasks

2.3.2 The Solution

Creating and memorizing lists would be an easy task now by using this

app, as is setting up deadlines for getting them done — and reminders to ensure

you’re not caught out.

It shows which task you have to do in given time of the day in order to

complete each of your tasks effectively and in time.

Whatever your task is like accomplish projects, manage daily tasks, work

todos, learning languages, mastering skills, sports or travel, This app will help

you to collect, keep, organize and remind you about all your tasks you have to do

on that day.

Features & Benefits

• Keeps your daily tasks align.

• Remind you about all your work with personalize notification.

• One step to adding task, due date & set reminder.

• Keeps your tasks according to your priority.

STI

• Very clean navigations, no more complexity.

• Shift your old tasks to a new day.

• Edit tasks anytime with swiping right to left.

• Categorize tasks which you want to keep separate from the list.

• Minimalist and stylish design.

• Increase productivity.

2.3.3 Personal Organize

In the today's market, Personal Organizer (P0) is mostly like a diary. User

will write everything in the P0 for the task that need to be done in the next day.

So the user must always check it to remember the entire task to getting prepared

if they need to go somewhere or to finished any works. In the current P0,

contains the features like Calendar, Phone Book, Notes, Expenses, Goals and

schedule.

2.3.4 Disadvantages

Totally manual and it's not effective anymore in today's technology world.

Can be stolen and other people can read the contents because this P0 don't
STI

have a security unless the user must keep the P0 all the time. The user must

always check to ensure about the task that has been scheduled (No Reminder).

2.4 Reminder

Reminder is a feature that contain in a Mobile Phone. In the Mobile

Phone, it is like a note that will alert the user about the thing that they have set

before. But for Reminder application online, it is mostly like a program that

automatically pops up a dialog box at computer startup time with events you

wanted to know 1-7 days (your choice) prior to their occurrence.

2.4.1 Advantages

Reminder in Mobile provided in common Mobile Phone to remind user and

Online Reminder is user friendly with so many choices of application in the

internet for free download. Reminder also has many ring tones to awake or alert

user. Some of the reminder in the Mobile phone got calendar to refer at the time

that need to be set. Since this reminder was built in the Mobile Phone, so the

user can carry all the time and sometime can be function as clock alarm.

2.4.2 Disadvantages

In Mobile phone, Reminder is limited function that we cannot use it for

many purposes. Online reminder, it is only pop up to the window, which means

the user must On the PC first if they want to see the schedule. The Reminder
STI

also did not have database to store all the information about the task that will be

remind later. Once the user set to be reminded, the information cannot be

navigated to display the previous data.

2.5 Observation

Observing people as they complete their tasks is one of the best

techniques for removing self-reporting error (Goodwin, 2011). However, there is

still a possibility of the observer affecting users’ behavior. Observation helps in

developing a better understanding of the problems that people may face while

using a product or service (Goodwin, 2011). This usability testing technique has

some challenges, including the amount of time needed to closely observe the

participants as they use the product or service. An observer may have to spend

several days observing the participants, which may not be practically possible

(Goodwin, 2011). In addition, unless the participant is observed from beginning to

end, the observer may fail to register important phases (Goodwin, 2011). For

example, in a case where one is observing the tasks of an accountant using

accounting software, unless the observer pays attention to how the accountant

uses the software to generate reports, he or she may not be able to obtain a

complete picture of the accountant’s experience.

STI

2.6 Global System for Mobile Communication

The Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) network is the

wireless standard chosen by some 170 countries around the world as the system

of choice for digital wireless communications. This standard operates

predominantly on the 900 and 1800 MHz frequency and is employed in most

parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia (Vijay K. Garg & Joseph E. Wilkes,

1999). GSM has rapidly become the most widely accepted and adopted wireless

standard in the world, it now accounts for over 70% of the globe's cellular market.

Particular coverage may vary slightly depending upon the service provider

chosen by the subscriber. It is also employed in North America and parts of

South America on the 1900 MHz frequency standard.

2.7 Protocol

SMS has become a popular mode of transmitting short text messages.

SMS application development is fairly simple and is designed to work with

standard Internet protocols such as SMTP and HTTP. SMS is a universal data

service and is supported in GSM, TDMA, and CDMA networks. A SMS can

originate from an external system such as email or mobile device and is routed

through the network, via the short messaging service centre (SMSC), to its

destination. A distinguishing feature of SMS is its ability to deliver messages any

time, regardless of whether data or voice calls are in progress. Writing a SMS
STI

application is fairly simple. Carriers have made it difficult, however for developers

to write SMS applications because the carriers would have tp expose their APIs,

making them available over TCP/IP, which they are reluctant to do. However,

most of the carriers have exposed Simple Mail Transport Protocol (SMTP), which

allows developers to write short text messages through an email interface. This

section walks you through the implementation of an application to send a short

text message to a mobile phone. Noted, that for the example to work, the user

will have to access to a valid SMTP server (Mcginity, 1999).

STI

CHAPTER 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter shows how the research was made. This chapter consists of

six parts which tackles about the different techniques used in order to complete

this study. Also this chapter manifests on how the researchers come up with the

result of the study.

Research Design

The researchers used a descriptive research to evaluate the application

iTask prototype. Descriptive research is a scientific method which involves

observing and describing the behavior of a subject without influencing it in any

way. It is a study designed to depict the participants in an accurate way.

Research Method

The researchers utilized the descriptive method using qualitative and

quantitative or the mixed method approaches in gathering information and

insights. According to libguides.newcastle.edu, qualitative research gathers data

about lived experiences, emotions or behaviors, and the meanings individuals

attach to them. It assists in enabling researchers to gain a better understanding

of complex concepts, social interactions or cultural phenomena. While

quantitative research gathers numerical data which can be ranked, measured or

STI

categorized through statistical analysis. It assists with uncovering patterns or

relationships, and for making generalizations. For the purpose if this mixed

method research, the researchers have decided to conduct a survey in STI

College – Global City to gather information to the Senior High School students

who are having trouble in managing their tasks. The results produced are

analyzed statistically since quantitative research explains and measures the data

through mathematical, statistical and numerical analysis. According to Adi Bhat's

study (2018), conducting survey is the first step to do in order for the researchers

to collect the data to produce numerical results; multiple survey questions are

allowed to ask. He also said that after the results being deliberately discussed

and carefully understood, the products and Services will change consequently.

As a result of the use of the survey and the cooperation of the respondents, data

collection has done quickly yet successful.

Probability Sampling

For some studies, the population may be small enough to validate the

inclusion of all of them in the study. But a study may involve a large population

which cannot all be studied. That is why the researchers draws a portion of the

large population which can be studied. That portion of the population that is

studied is called a sample of the population. A sample in this study is, therefore,

a smaller group of the population drawn through a definite procedure from an

STI

accessible population. The elements making up this sample are those that are

actually studied.

The respondents for this study are the students of STI Global City Senior

High School. With Senior High School having a large population of 1,308,

researcher identified the 48.2% (which is the percentage of the current grade 12

students) of the total population of STI Global City Senior High School. The

researchers got 630 as the result. And since Information and Technology in

Mobile Application and Web Developments (ITMAWE) students are the needed

respondents for this study, researchers identified the 21.1% (which is the

percentage of the grade 12 ITMAWE students) of the total population of the

current STI Global City Senior High School resulting to 133 number of

population. The researchers used Slovin’s formula in determining the actual

sample size of this study. Slovin’s formula is used to calculate an appropriate

sample size from a population. Therefore, with the grade 12 ITMAWE students’

population of 133, the sample size for this study is 100 with 0.05 as the margin of

error.

And to have the samples needed for this study, researchers used the

method of random sampling. Simple random sampling is the basic sampling

technique where researchers select a group of subjects (a sample) for study from

a larger group (a population). Each individual is chosen entirely by chance and

STI

each member of the population has an equal chance of being included in the

sample.

Instrumentation

The study used a questionnaire in order to gather information from the

respondents who are mainly the senior high school students from STI Global

City. Since the study deals with the application prototype, the researchers semi-

administered the respondents in order for them to be able to answer the

questionnaires accurately. Semi administration helps the respondents to

understand completely what is needed on the questionnaire and what is being

asked, the researchers do it by letting the respondents experience the application

prototype first, by themselves, and not letting any bias while using it. However, it

is still the duty of the respondents to answer the questionnaire with all honesty

and the researchers are just to inform the respondents on how they are going to

answer the questionnaire.

The questionnaire has only two parts, including the first part which focuses

on the demographic profile of the respondents, finding their age and sex; second

is about their general experience in using the application iTask prototype, the

ease-of-use of it in terms of functionality and user interactivity, the user-interface,

and the value propositions. And third, is about their overall experience which was

answered through a Likert scale that measures their feedback.

STI

Data Collection

This study, “iTask: A To-do List Mobile Application”, used both primary

data and secondary data as the sources of data. According to Byu FHSS

Research Support Center, primary data refers to data collected by the

researchers themselves for their own needs and purposes while secondary data

are data collected by other researchers/organization/institution which was used

on their previous study. Researchers used both primary and secondary data as

information for this study to better understand the application’s overall

performance from its interface to its value proposition.

The researchers went around the STI College – Global City campus to

find grade 12 ITMAWE that would be the respondents of this study. We kindly

approached every possible respondent to ask if the mind to respond of answer to

our questionnaire. Some of the answered, while only few of the refused. The

researchers managed to make the 100 person to respond to our survey with the

proper explanation of the study the researchers are conducting.

Primary Formula

In this study, researchers have used the following formulas to calculate

and to know the data they needed; Slovin's Formula was used to identify the

actual number of respondents needed for this study.

STI

𝑁
𝑛=
(1 + 𝑁𝑒 2 )

Mean score was used to find the average score of the population on a

given variable, which is represented by:

∑ 𝑋𝑖
μ=
𝑁

Where the symbol ‘μ’ represents the population mean. The symbol ‘Σ Xi’

represents the sum of all scores present in the population (say, in this case) X1

X2 X3 and so on. The symbol ‘N’ represents the total number of individuals or

cases in the population.

Percentage is used to know the totality of the answer of the respondents

which is represented by:

𝑓
% = (100)
𝑁

Where % is the percentage, f is the frequency and N is the total number of

population.
STI

Also, mode was used to know the most selected reason of the smokers of why

they don't quit smoking.

STI

CHAPTER 4

PRESENTATION, INTERPRETATION, AND ANALYSIS OF DATA

The antecedent chapter provides an explanation and description of the

methods used, however, this chapter presents the information about the data

gathered by the researchers through quantitative analysis of the survey forms.

The data gathered are then used to provide strong basis for the conclusions

presented in the final chapter.

A total of 100 grade 12 ITMAWE students of STI College – Global City

answered the semi-administered questionnaire which was divided into two parts

which focuses on (1) the demographic profile of the respondents, in which their

names, ages, and sex; (2) their general experience in using the application iTask

prototype, the ease-of-use of it in terms of functionality and user interactivity, the

user-interface, the value propositions, and their overall experience.

The data was entered and analysed manually with the help of Microsoft

Excel. Although manual data entry is more time-consuming and can possibly give

an error in the input, researchers carefully inspected the entries for duplicates,

scrutinized entries for skipped data and managed a few repeated checks.

Various ranges of tools were used by the researchers to summarize and

discuss the data gathered. Frequency was used to calculate and describe the
STI

number of responses for each number. Percentage was also used to find the

specific portion of responses in a certain entry. Furthermore, mean was used to

give rough estimates about the common data in a set of entries. Mode was also

used to calculate the highest frequency that occurs in a set of entries.

The research objectives are: (1) To determine the demographic profile of

the respondents in terms of their (a) age, (b) sex; (2) To know their general

experience in using the application iTask prototype, (a) the ease-of-use of it in

terms of functionality and user interactivity, (b) the user-interface, and (c) the

value propositions; (3) To know the users overall rating.

1. To classify the demographic profile of the respondents

There are two items in analyzing the demographic profile of the

respondents, namely: age and sex. The first item which asks for the age were

taken into average, which hereby is 18 years old.

Table 1.1
Age Distribution of Grade 12 ITMAWE Students

STI

Based on the given table above (pertaining to table 1.1), 2% of the

respondents, who are in the age of 16 years old (which is by far the youngest)

answered the questionnaire for the application prototype. 14% of the

respondents who are in the age of 17 years old also answered the

questionnaires. Meanwhile, 59% of the total number of the respondents belong to

the age of 18 (which have the highest percentage), which also responded to the

survey forms. Furthermore, 25% of the respondents who responded to the

questionnaire belong to the age of 19.

The data gathered shows that most of the respondents aged 18, with a

percentage of 59%, answered the said questionnaire. While, the lowest

population of grade 12 ITMAWE students are 16 years old, with only 2% of the

total population. This means that most of the grade 12 ITMAWE students in STI

College – Global City are aged 18 years old while the least are aged 16 years

old.
STI

According to our findings presented above (Table 1.2), 67% of the

respondents who answered the questionnaire for the application prototype are

male (which is by far the highest). 33% of the respondents who answered the

questionnaire are female. The data gathered shows that males are the dominant

sex from the grade 12 ITMAWE students in STI College – Global City ranging

from at least above 60% of the population.

2. To determine the general experience and insights in using the

application of the users

A total of 21 items were dedicated to know the general experience and

insights of the respondents in using the application iTask prototype regarding to

its ease-of-use, user-interface, value propositions, and overall experience. In

which it is divided through: 5 questions about the ease-of-use, 5 about the user-

interface, 5 about the value propositions, 5 about their overall experience, and 1

for their overall rating.

Measuring the ease-of-use of an application depends on the application’s

purpose and complexity. The researchers took some of the aspects that they

think are considerable to their subject application, which is a to-do list app.

Operation, instructions, functionality, and user-interactivity are one of those

aspects. The researchers provided five questions about the ease-of-use of the

Application iTask prototype.

As seen in the table 2.1 for the question 1, the researchers asked the

respondents about operating the application. The percentage of the respondents

STI

from grade 12 students who agree that the Application iTask is easy to operate is

56%.

For question number 2, 48% of the respondents said that they strongly

agree that there is no need for further instructions to fully use the application well.

This proves that the Application iTask is easy to use.

In question number 3, the respondents are asked whether the menu items

works perfectly fine and 55% of the respondents answered that they agree about

the menu items functionality.

Meanwhile for the question number 4, 44% of the respondents strongly

agree that the buttons functions works perfectly fine as well.

For question number 5, researchers asked the respondents whether the

application iTask is easy to navigate and there are 58% of the respondents said

that they strongly agree about the navigation around the application is easy.

It is found that most of the grade 12 ITMAWD students agreed

that the application iTask prototype have high rate of ease-of-use. Meaning, the

application is easy to operate. This may due to the reason that the application’s

value proposition is not complex and its purpose is simple. However, the ease-of-

use of an application may still vary from its developers and not just on its

purpose.

To gather information whether the users from grade 12 ITMAWD students

agrees about the attractiveness and organization of the application’s user-

interface, the researchers provided five questions (numbers6-10) pertaining the

aspects like overall user-interface, menu items, all items, buttons, and functions.
STI

For the first question in terms of the attractiveness of user-interface, 57%

of the respondents agree that the user-interface is attractive. This proves that the

color-scheming and objects are well placed.

In question 7 which asked the users if the menu items are well organized,

50% of the respondents strongly agree that it is organized.

In question 8, the respondents are asked whether all the items are present

and 45% of the respondents strongly agree that all the tasks they input are

present in the main page of the application.

For question 9, 53% of the respondents agree that the buttons are well

organized in means of putting them in the right position where it doesn’t bother

the user’s work in application.

Meanwhile, 58% of the respondents also agree that the functions are

there whenever they do something on application. Meaning, functions are

present when they wish to add, remove, or edit the task they want.

Value proposition is a promise of value to be delivered, communicated,

and acknowledged. It is also a belief from the customer about how value will be

delivered, experienced and acquired. A value proposition can apply to an entire

organization, or parts thereof, or customer accounts, or products or services

(Wikipedia.com). Hence, a value proposition outlines the benefit that the app

promises to deliver to its users. With over 2 million apps in the App Store, one of

the best ways to stand out is to provide a compelling statement that lets people

know why they should download the app instead of the competitors.

As seen in the table 2.3 for the question 1, the researchers asked the

respondents about the idea of the application, whether they understand it or not.

58% of the respondents answered strongly agree in understanding the idea of

the application.

For question number 2, 53% of the respondents said that they agree that

the application will be helpful to its users. This proves that the Application iTask’s

purpose of making its users manage their tasks is being implied.

For the question number 3, 50% of our respondents has answered agree,

to our question that our application will be beneficial for the long term users.

To further make our application better, we asked questions if our

application will be accepted by the society as a day-to-day app as well as its

usability. Usability is the ease of use and the simplicity of a human-made tool or

device. In our research, usability is our priority to make the application practical

for the users to efficiently save time and effort.

As for the question number 1, 42% of the respondents answered agree to

our question if they have used any other similar application resembling our app.
STI

For the question number 2, if our application has any bugs or errors when

the researchers showed it to them, 62% strongly disagreed. This shows that our

application iTask is usable and does not need any kind of debugging.

For the question number 3, 68% responded by saying that they strongly

agree that our application runs smoothly. Again iTask is proving to be an

application that is thoroughly fixed before being released and tested by the

respondents.

As for the question number 4, 36% of the respondents have answered

strongly disagree to the question, "if they are willing to pay for the application

when it is released on the Playstore".

And for the question number 5, if they'll recommend our application to

others, 54% have said strongly agreed. This proves that iTask is an application

worthy of letting other people know and letting them experience it firsthand.

3. To know the user’s overall rating

Our application iTask still has its pros and cons, the researchers have

surveyed the ease of use of the application itself to know, if any, the bugs that

should be fixed. So the researchers asked the overall experience while using

the application.

As we can see, 73% of the respondent have chosen to rate our application,

iTask, a 4, which shows that they enjoyed using the app. This is a great result,

which means that the researchers only have a few things to tweak within the
STI

app and the cost of the product when released at the play store. 20% have

rated the app a 5, which is the second highest voted number in the survey

questionnaires, shows that a small percentage of the respondents have felt that

the app doesn't require any changes. 5% have given 3 as their score and

finally, 2% have said 2 as their overall rating of the app.

CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary of the Findings

The first part of analysing the demographic profile of the respondents is

the age, majority of the respondents are in their late adolescence. In the second

part shows that men are the dominant gender in our strand, ITMAWE. To

determine the general experience and insights in using the application, the

respondents were satisfied in using the application iTask as the buttons and its

placements are easy to locate and understand. With its easy-to-use functions

and usability has left the respondents in agreement in the overall operability of

the application, iTask. In general perception of the respondents, shows that

majority of them have used a to-do list application before and know the basic

function of a to-do list app, which iTask have successfully accomplished. Our

application has also met the expectation of its users in terms of general

smoothness and having the necessary buttons that makes up a to-do list

application. Finally, in understanding the reason why our application received

such high reviews from our respondents is because they find the application very

useful and beautiful in terms of its looks.

In our data, table 1.1 shows us that the majority of the respondents are

aged 18 years old with 59% of them taking the survey and 19 as the second with

25% and 17 with 14% and 16 as the lowest only having 2%.
STI

Table 1.2 shows that male is the most dominant gender. Having 67%

percentage of the respondents.

Table 2.1 is the Insights of the respondents about the ease of use of the

application. The data shows the following: 56% has said agree to the question "if

the application is easy to operate", 48% has answered strongly agree for the "No

need for further instructions". 55% agreed to "Menu item works". 44% strongly

agreed for the "Button function works" and 58% has answered strongly agreed to

"Easy to navigate".

The next table, Table 2.2 shows that 57% have agreed to the question "Is

the User Interface attractive", while 50% has strongly agreed to "Menu Items are

well organized". But for the question 3, "All items are present" 45% have said

strongly agree, with 53% of the respondents has answered agree to "Buttons are

Organized". And lastly, 58% have agreed to "Functions are present".

As for the table 2.3, 58% has strongly agreed to the question if they

"Understand the Idea of the Application", 53% have answered agree for the

question "Application will be helpful". 50% have agreed to the "Will benefit the

users in the long term", with 50% disagreeing to "Application is Unique" and lastly

51% also disagreeing to "Features are different from other similar application".

Table 2.4 reveals that 42% have agreed to "Already used similar application",

62% have strongly disagreed to "There is bug and error/or errors". 68% strongly

agreed whether or not the "Application runs smoothly". 36% strongly disagreed to
STI

their "Willingness to pay for the application". Lastly 54% said strongly agree to if

they will "Recommend the app to others".

Lastly, table 3.1 shows us that 73 out of 100 of the respondents have

rated our application iTask, a 4.(1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest.)

Conclusions

After the researchers have gathered the data in terms of ages, it has been

found that the highest numbers of respondents are aged between 18 and 19 and

the lowest age of respondents are 16 and 17. This shows that they are capable

enough of knowing whether or not an application can be used on a daily basis.

Our application can help not only students but others that are in need of

time manager so that they can efficiently use their time doing productive tasks

while still being able to do what they love. With its ease of use access, iTask can

be used by people from different part of the world and be used by certain age

groups. After the data has been gathered and analyzed, the application shows

great potential as the score that it garnered from the grade 12 students are well

above average. With 73% of the respondents giving an overall rating of 4,

proving that our application is doing the job that it supposed to do, while

maintaining its easy-to-use software. Our data shows that the respondents that

haven't used a to-do application are leaning towards to using our application,

iTask. The data also shows that 54% of the respondents would recommend the

application to others as to also help their friends, families or acquaintances to

STI

fully utilize their time. Finally, the application has been a success, showing great

results as the researchers have worked hard to think and create such application.

Recommendations

Students

The researchers of this study recommend this application to the students

whom are always in need of a time manager. As to better and efficiently use their

time doing productive tasks while still being able to the thing they like to do. It can

also be used to remind them of important dates such as deadlines, target dates

etc. Moreover, not only can it be used solely for school task but to day-to-day

usage like cleaning the house to make not only a great model student but also a

great son/daughter as well.

Teachers

The researchers of this study recommend this application to teachers.

Teachers are hard workers and sometimes they tend to forget what need to be

checked or simply forget to remind the students the needed projects or

homework’s as they are handling 3 or more section in the school. Our

application, iTask can solve this problem by letting the teachers input what needs

and when it is needed to be done and reminding them of what they inserted to

the to-do list app.

STI

Office Staff

The researchers of this study recommend this application to Office staffs.

They can be in difficult situation sometimes when deadlines pile up or simply

when the tasks assigned to them is many, which makes a time manager an

absolute necessity for them. Furthermore, as i've said earlier when they are

bombarded with tasks, it can be easily forgotten, with the use of our application it

won't be a problem to them anymore.

Programmers

The researchers of this study recommend this application to

Programmers. We've experienced firsthand how tough being a programmer is

that is why we made this app, to help others as well to efficiently use their time.

Coding is a tedious work, that is why most programmers burying themselves in

front of the screen all day. Our application wants to change that by assigning

time when and when not to code. This will considerably help them as they can

focus better after each and every break.

Future Researchers

The researchers of this study recommend this application to the future

researchers. We've made an application with the purpose of helping people to

efficiently and effectively manage their time. We hope that the future researchers
STI

can use our research and application to guide them towards creating a similar or

better application. They can prove themselves if whether or not the application

can be accepted not only in STI Global City but to other places as well.

Furthermore, the future researchers can conduct a research with a higher

knowledge of the said topic
