Causal research
Causal research, also called explanatory research, is the investigation of
(research into) cause-and-effect relationships.
This type of research is very complex and the researcher can never be
completely certain that there are no other factors influencing the causal
relationship, especially when dealing with people’s attitudes and motivations.
Objective of causal research
Understanding which variable are the cause and which variables
are the effect
Theoretical research
A theoretical framework consists of concepts and, together
with their definitions and reference to relevant scholarly
literature, existing theory that is used for your particular
study.
• The theoretical framework must demonstrate an understanding of theories
and concepts that are relevant to the topic of your research paper and that
relate to the broader areas of knowledge being considered.
• Guided by a relevant theory, you are given a basis for your hypotheses and
choice of research methods.
Quantitative research
• Survey research:
• generally involves a large audience to collect a large amount of data.
For example:
• The researcher has to collect data from multiple sources and the
parameters involved are quite a few, which will lead to a time
consuming research.
formulation of a theory
• It is problem-oriented
• It is “need-based”
