INTRODUCTION

Human Resources play a crucial role in the development process of the modern economy.
Human resource development has long been recognized by many developing nations as a
basic factor for Socio-Economic Development. It is a process that is concerned with the
improvement and growth of the capacities of individuals and groups within the organizations

The present study is explanatory in character starting with a brief introduction to the
rationale of this project followed by a company profile, objectives, needs, scope, limitations
of the study, research methodology, comparative study, data analysis and interpretation,
findings of the study and appropriate suggestions to the company.

Conducting a well organized and professional performance appraisal can often make a huge
difference in turning around problems of employees, as well as encouraging good or even
average workers to perform at their best.

Effective individual performance equals effective organizational performance

Effective evaluation of employee performance is linked to every other human resource issue
within the organization.

Besides this, there was the Zeal and Zest of the resources as management students, duly
supported by the executives of the company and the management, duly supported by the
executives of the industries and management. It is ardently hoped that the report is of
immense use to the company.

Performance appraisal is a systematic and structured approach to assessing the past

performance of employees from a management perspective. Just as importantly, from the
perspective of an individual employee, it proves an opportunity to consider where you are
and where you want to be and what actions are required to help you to bridge this gap. It is
oriented to fulfill three important purposed both for the organization and for the individual as
viewed by Douglas McGregor.

6
MLR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

 Systematic judgment to back up salary increases, promotions, transfer, and sometimes,

demotions or terminations.

 A means of telling a subordinate how he is doing and suggesting needed changes in his
behavior, attitudes, and skills or job knowledge.

 A basis for coaching and counseling of the individual by the superior.

 Welfare means faring or doing well. It is a comprehensive term and refers to the
physical, mental moral and emotional well being of an individual.

 Labor welfare also referred to as betterment work for employees, relatives to taking
care of the well-being of work by employers, agencies.

 It is rather difficult to define the term labor welfare precisely because of the relatively
of the concept reported. The royal commission on labor.

 Labour welfare is a term which must necessarily be elastic, bearing a somewhat

different interpretation in one country from another, according to the different social
customs, the degree industrialization and education level of the workers.

Definition: The ILO at its Asian conference, defined labour welfare as a term which is
understood to include such services facilities amenities as may be established in or in the
vicinity of undertakings enables the person employed in them to perform their work in
healthy, congenial surroundings, and to provide them with amenities conducive to good
health and high morale.

7
MLR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Labour welfare has two aspects – negative and positive. On the negative side, labor
welfare is concerned with contracting the baneful effects of the Large-scale industrial system
of production – especially capitalistic so far as India is concerned – on the personal family
and social life of the worker. On the positive side, it deals with the provision of
opportunities for the worker and his/her family for a good life as understood in its most
comprehensive sense.

NEED FOR THE STUDY

 Need for the study of welfare measures of employees:

 Demand from the employee

 Pressure from the trade unions

 Due to the concern of employer towards employees

 To motivate workers and yield more from them

 To develop an organization image in society

 To provide social security to the employees

 To improve human relations

 To create sound industrial relations

 As employee's welfare measures are important for the enhancement of moral and
motivation of employee's this topic is selected for the study.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To Study the different types of welfare measures schemes in kesoram cement.

 To study about employee welfare measures in kesoram industry.

8
MLR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

 To know about employee satisfaction with reference to employee welfare measures in

kesoram cement.

 To study the importance of employee welfare measures in the organization.

 To suggest modern methods in improving the welfare of employees in kesoram

cement.

Scope of the study:

The sample size taken for the purpose of studying is 100 out of 1,500 employees. All the
questionnaires were distributed randomly and thereby the limitation of selection will be
there. However, care has been taken to interpret the data keeping in view the questionnaire
only and interpretations have been drawn accordingly. The sample size was fixed to 100
keeping in view the enormity land size of the organization with respect to the period of
study. Therefore it is requested that this report may be understood, keeping in view that this
report has been made purely for educational purpose.

METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY

SOURCES OF DATA

For the purpose of the study, both primary and secondary data has been obtained
from employees of the organization and with the help of the published
information by the HR DEPARTMENT of KESORAM CEMENT INDUSTRY.

Primary data is collected by issuing a well-designed questionnaire to the

employees and their opinions and suggestions were sought with the help of the
questionnaire.

9
MLR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The secondary data is gathered with the help of the literature that has been
obtained from the organization in the various form as such magazines, Journals,
Annual report & additional information from personnel department of Kesoram
Industry.

Sampling design:

Sample design refers to the technique or procedure which the researchers adopt
for selecting items for sample. It lays down the number of items to be included
in the sample. It is determined before data is collected.

Sample size and technique:

Out of total employees working in the organization, I have conducted a survey on 100
employees by seeing simple random sampling technique from finite population refers to that
method of sample elements an equal possibility of being picked up. It gives each element in
the population an equal probability of getting into the sample and all choices are independent
of one another.

Limitations of the study

 Due to time constraint, a deep coverage into the aspects of the study was not possible.

 Data collected through secondary source may be based and make it historic.

 The study is being limited to survey conducted through questionnaire and personal
interviews.

 The views of respondents in the survey may be faulty in order to defend the
company’s image. Human beings tend to behave artificially particularly when they are
observed.

The ILO (International Labour Organization) defined, "welfare as a term which is

understood to include such services and amenities as may be established in or the vicinity of
undertaking to perform their work in healthy, congenial surrounding and to provide them
with amenities conducive to good health and high morale".

According to Arthur James Todd, "welfare as anything is done for the comfort or

concept. The total concept is a desirable state of existence involving the physical, mental,

welfare implies the setting up of minimum desirable standards and the provision of facilities
like health, food, clothing housing, medical allowance, education, insurance, job security,

pulps transparent paper, spun pipes and refractoriness, tiers and other products.

Looking to the wide gap between the demand and supply of vital commodity cement, which
plays an important role in nation building activity, the government of India de-licensed the
cement industry in the year 1966 with a view to attracting private entrepreneur to augment
the cement production. Kesoram rose to the occasion and decided to set up a few cement
plants in the country.

dry process, was established in 1969 at Basanthnagar, a backward area in Karimnagar
