1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERAL ARRANGEMENT OF CHAMBER

1.1 Brief Structural Description

 Chamber is consisting of four walls and walls are connected with 300 mm thick base.

1.2 Method Used for analysis/Design

 Structural analysis of this chamber was done by SAP2000 software and those results were
input in the spreadsheet to design structural elements

3.0 Structural Analysis

3.1 3D model

3.2 Load Assign Model

3
3.3 Load Cases

3.3.1 DEAD LOAD (DL)

 Self-weight of the walls and base are added to the model.

3.3.2 SOIL LOAD (SL)

 Soil triangular load is added to walls using joint pattern.

3.3.3 WATER LOAD (WD L)

 Water triangular load is added to walls using joint pattern.

3.3.4 PIPE PRESSURE LOAD (PP L)

 Pipe pressure = 10 bar

 Pipe pressure impact on the wall = PA

= 1000 x(0.8/2)2
= 502.65 kN.

 Average pressure on the wall = 502.65/ (1.4x0.75)

= 478.7 kN

3.4 Load Combinations

Following load combinations were taken in to account in analyzing this structure using
SAP 2000.
a. COM 1 ( ULS ) - > 1.4 DEAD LOAD + 1.4 WATER LOAD + 1.4 SOIL LOAD+ 1.6 PIPE PRESSURE
b. COM 2 ( SLS ) - > 1.0 DEAD LOAD + 1.0 WATER LOAD + 1.0 SOIL LOAD+ 1. 0 PIPE PRESSURE

5.0 DESIGN CALCULATIONS

6
5.1 Wall Reinforcement Calculation

Maximum moment = 72 kNm

Thickness = 300 mm
Cover = 50 mm

As per BS 8110,
d = 300 - 50 - 12/2 = 244.0 mm
K' = 0.156 > K = 0.030 OK
z = 244.0 [0.5 + (0.25 - 0.030 /0.893)]^½
= 235.5 > 0.95d = 231.8 mm

As = 72.00E6 /460 /231.8 x 1.05 = 709 > min As = 390 mm²/m

PROVIDE T12 @ 150 = 754 mm²/m OK

5.2 Shear Calculation

Provided steel area T12@150 As = 754.1mm2/m

ULS design shear force at support = 95.0kN/m
Shear stress v = VULS / bvd
= 0.39N/mm2
Consider horizontal r/f
100 As / bd = 0.31

Shear capacity vc = 0.79[100 As / bd ] 1/3 [400/d]1/4 [ fcu/25] 1/3 / ɣm

= 0.48 N/mm2
V < Vc Satisfactory

7
5.3 Top Slab Calculation

Maximum moment = 131 kNm

Thickness = 300 mm
Cover = 50 mm

As per BS 8110,
d = 300 - 50 - 16/2 = 242.0 mm .
K' = 0.156 > K = 0.064 OK .
z = 242.0 [0.5 + (0.25 - 0.064 /0.893)]^½
= 223.4 < 0.95d = 229.9 mm

As = 131.00E6 /460 /223.2 x 1.05 = 1340 > min As = 390 mm²/m

PROVIDE T16 @ 125 = 1608 mm²/m OK .
