WORK SCENARIO: MY DREAM JOB

My manager has given me the opportunity to come up with an exhibit for one of the four weeks in
February. We will feature a rolling exhibit each week in honor of black history month. She is giving each
art research assistant an opportunity to showcase his or her talent. Of course, the art team will need to
sign off on the ideas and concepts. I plan to utilize Microsoft’s video Skype application, Web 2.0 tools,
Google and Microsoft Office Suite. I will create a web page specifically for the exhibit where I will use
Powtoon, Snag-It, and Loom applications.

First, I will verbally inform my manager of my decision to contact a particular artist. Based on the
approval, I will make my first attempt to reach out to the artist. After contacting the artist by email to
inform him or her of the Museum’s goals and expectations, I will set up a video conference with the
agreed upon date and time. I will use Microsoft Video Skype in order for us to discuss a few of his or her
art pieces. At the conclusion of the conference, the artist and I will understand the Museum’s vision for
his or her work. He or she will know the process of obtaining and securing all legal documents.
Additionally, the artist will know how the museum plans to market and show his or her artwork. He or
she also will know how the artwork will be transported. Lastly, we will set a date, at the location of the
artwork, for the artist and me to edit and select the pieces that will be in the exhibit. Any request from
the museum to have the artist create an inspiration piece to commemorate the event was either
granted or denied by the artist.

I will create a PowerPoint presentation that I will present verbally to my manager and the art
research team. The presentation will provide a high-level overview of the size of the exhibit and the
process & area required for the exhibit. I plan to use Pixlr to edit images. The budget for the project also
will be discussed during and after the presentation. We will discuss whether the museum will have
money in the budget to have an opening reception for visitors to meet the artist. The charts, graphs, and
information in the presentation will solidify the budgeted amount and approval.

I will travel to the artist’s location to finalize the pieces for the exhibit and arrange transport for the
artwork. While at the artist location, I will use Loom to show examples and discuss how each piece will
be displayed. I will use Snag-It to create screenshots and use as a “mark-up” for changes and updates.
This will create historical data for all changes. Once back at the museum, I will design a webpage to add
a Powtoon presentation that markets the upcoming exhibit. I also will include a scrolling Google slide
presentation of a few pieces of the artist’s work (with the artist approval) and his or her biography. At
the exhibit, I will have a few computers set up with a short online survey. Visitors will be encouraged to
tell us if they would like to see more or the same type of exhibits or any comments about the existing
exhibit.

The opening day reception with the artist and the unique way the exhibit was displayed received
rave reviews. The artist received positive feedback and new ideas during the reception. The survey
proved very helpful in measuring the response to the artist and the exhibit. The digital tools were an
essential part of my success. I was able to save cost on travel and the need for a web page designer. I
was able to show the artist different available options for artwork display and show how edits affect
each choice made. Equally important, I was able to show my manager and the art team that digital
technology had an important place in the art world. The use of it is a great timesaver as well.
