Activity 1 Non-Verbal Communication
1.1 Study the picture (Fig. 1.1) and answer the questions based on it:

1.1.3 Where do you think they are and what have they been doing?
1.1.4 What do you think is the outcome of their activity?

mentioned in 1.1.2.
1.1.7 If they would be saying, “Got it!” and then raise their hands, what modifier would
they be using?
1.1.8 If they would be saying, “Yes, man. Aweh!” while raising their hands, what modifier
would they be using?
Activity 2 Intercultural Communication
Study the text, Diversity in the workplace, below and answer the questions that follow.

Diversity in the Workplace

1. A business with employees from different cultures might risk getting new customers
and clients. However, employees from different cultures can provide a company
with a variety of perspectives and ideas. This could bring unique insight that cannot
always be obtained through market research. Another advantage is that top
performers could be appointed, which will boost the morale of current employees.
2. When a company hires employees of diverse cultures, it could cause difficulty in
communication. This could lead to a communication barrier and less productivity. It
helps for companies to employ multi-lingual employees who can help with
communication problems.
3. Some employees may reject change and that is why companies should explain the
reasons for diversity and the benefits for both management and employees.
4. Affirmative action is a way of solving diversity problems. Training programs are
offered by some companies to managers to assist with newly diverse departments.
