SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Subject: English Date: January 7, 2019

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, students shall have:


a. recognized the function of the first five Figures of Speech: Simile, Metaphor, Personification,
Hyperbole and Irony;
b. formulated sentences using the first five Figures of Speech: Simile, Metaphor,
Personification, Hyperbole and Irony; and
c. expressed their love using first five Figures of Speech: Simile, Metaphor, Personification,
Hyperbole and Irony to their family, friends and love one’s.

IV. PROCEDURE

1. Activity: Paint me a scenario


- Students will be grouped into 5 and the teacher will disseminate the script strips and
the students will think an act that will incorporate the script. (2minutes per group).
Group 1 – Your love is like a sun, that shines my whole world. (Simile)
Group 2 – Love is Blind. (Metaphor)
Group 3 – My heart ran a mile to see him/her. (Personification)
Group 4 – I would walk across the desert just to see you. (Hyperbole)
Group 5 – (Situation)I feel in love with my worst enemy. (Irony)

- Teacher will post the script/scenario on the board.

1. What have you observed to the following scenarios?

3. Abstraction with Various Integration

SIMILE – compares one thing to another thing using “like or “as”.


e.g. Fake news is like sugar coated nuts. (Social Media Issue)
METAPHOR – compares one thing to another but “like” or “as” is not being used.
e.g. Classroom is a Zoo. (Classroom Issue)
PERSONIFICATION – giving human attributes to non-living things.
e.g. The global warming wave at me. (Environmental Issue)
HYPERBOLE – it uses exaggerated statements.
e.g. Thank you in a million times. (Showing Gratitude)
IRONY – the word is expressing something and it is opposite to the literal meaning.
e.g. We have to fight for peace. (About Life)

Integration

1. Go back to the script and scenario given, which of the scenarios exemplified as
SIMILE, METAPHOR, PERSONIFICATION, HYPERBOLE and IRONY.
2. Go back to the script and scenario given, which of the scenarios show a deep
affection towards a person? Can point it out?
3. Who can formulate your own sentence using SIMILE, METAPHOR, PERSOFICATION,
HYPERBOLE and IRONY expressing love towards your FAMILY, FRIEND and LOVE
ONES.
4. Does true love exist?
5. Do you believe in forever?
6. How would you expressed your love towards your family, friends and love one’s?

4. Application

The students will be group into 3 and they will execute the task given.

Group 1 – write the keywords to remember about SIMILE, METAPHOR, HYPERBOLE,


PERSONIFICATION and IRONY.
Group 2 – (Role Play) using one of the figures speech, portray 1 scenario that contains
LOVE FOR THE COUNTRY (MAKA-BANSA).
Group 3 – create 1 sentence per figures of speech about LOVE PROBLEMS.
