Methodology

A list of schools was gathered that are academically and size measurably comparable to
Carthage College and are located within the Midwest.

All information regarding the schools’ adult education or continuing education programs was
gathered by looking at online data from the schools’ websites. Along with this, phone
interviews were conducted to obtain further details about the schools’ programing.

The data was then analyzed and formatted into tables, graphs, and charts. Specific, in depth
descriptions of the schools’ programs were also included.

Top Line Conclusions

• The majority of the adult or continuing education enrollment numbers were under 2,000 students.
• Carthage is at the low end of professor to student ratios, which is good.
• 25 out of the 26 schools offered classes in the evenings for adults education students. Along with this, many schools
offered classes on the weekends and in the summer. Carthage is in the norm here as well.
• Carthage is at the higher end, but within the acceptable range of schools accepting transfer credits.
• 88% of the colleges offer classes online. Carthage lags in the market here.
• Concordia may be one to watch as it is aggressively spending money on advertising.
• Data from Cardinal Stritch suggests that Business programming focused on leadership may prove to be a lucrative,
relatively untapped market.
**Collection of data and analysis compiled between February 21, 2014 and May 18, 2014. This included research on
the schools’ websites and phone interviews to compile this data.
