remains unseen and unmoved, makes it invisible to our eyes. But, as harmless your water heaters might
seem, precautionary tales and proper installation processes must still be followed.

If you’re looking into having a water heater installed in your home, or you currently own one, here are
some safety tips you need to know about.

1. Choosing and Installing the Right Water Heater

When choosing a water heater, make sure it’s the right size for your home- not too big that it con-
sumes more that it should, or too small that it can barely do anything. Have a professional electrician in-
stall your heater for you. DIY-ing your heater installation may not be the best idea, for safety purposes.

2. Set Up Your Heater Properly

Your heater’s most important parts is the temperature-pressure relief or the T&P Valve. In the
event of high temperature or pressure build up, the T&P valve helps relieve pressure so as not to cause an
explosion. The standard water thermostat should be 120 degrees. This is the temperature that is safe for
children-use and should be able to help you with energy savings. However, temperature lower than 120
degrees may cause bacteria to live inside your water heater.

3. Electric vs. Gas-Fired Heaters

Both types of heaters work generally the same. However for gas-fired water heaters, they must be specifi-
cally raised 18” above the floor to help prevent the ignition of any gasoline fumes that will accumulate on
the floor. There is also more chances of carbon monoxide build-up if you have a gas-fired heaters which
makes it a bit more dangerous to use.

4. Do Regular Check Ups

Read your water heater’s manual to get to know the product more. Find out if it’s a model that
needs regular servicing. Make sure you hire professional cleaners to do this for you. It’s always better to
be safe than sorry!
