1 General Information

1.1 Preface
These operating instructions are an important help for successful and safe op-
eration of the working basket. The operating instructions contain important tips
regarding safe, proper and economic operation of the working basket. Observ-
ing these instructions helps to avoid dangerous situations, to reduce repair
costs and down-times and to increase reliability and durability of the working
basket.
The operating instructions must always be available at the wheel loader (in the
net-type bag behind the driver’s seat) and must be read, understood and ap-
plied by everyone who is charged with works on/with the working basket, e.g.:
− operation and setup,
− repair of defects, maintenance as well as handling of working and auxiliary
material,
− servicing (maintenance, inspection, repair works)
− and/or transport.

1.2 Principles of the Employers’ Liability Insurance Associa-


tion “Training of Driver’s of Working Platforms”
Operation of Working Platforms BGR 500
The employer has to take the necessary measures with the objectives follow-
ing:
− The employees charged with operation of the work equipment receive ade-
quate instruction – also with regards to the risks possibly related to its use.
− Employees mentioned in article 5 receive adequate special instructions.

ing and Commissioning of Drivers of Working Platforms”
Operation of Working Platforms BGR 500
Drivers of working platforms have to meet the demands following:
− to be at the age of 18 and trustworthy;
− physical and mental fitness;
− not addicted to drugs or alcohol;
− not afraid of great heights;
− must have received special instructions regarding operation and they must
have proven their capability accordingly towards the employer.
− they expressly have to be charged with the operation of the working plat-
form by the employer.
The order for operation of the working platform has to be given in written form.
Furthermore, BGV A1 requests: …if necessary, the instruction has to be re-
peated, but at least it has to be done once a year; the instruction needs to be
documented.

Labour Protection Law


The employer:
− By means of an evaluation of risks related to the work of the employees,
the employer has to find out what measures of labour protection are re-
quired.
− He has to provide safe tools, systems and equipment.
− He has to provide information, instructions, training and supervision.
− Hierarchy of measures – prevent, reduce, control (evaluation of risks).
− He has to make available adequate PSA – for free.
− All employees have to be informed of the regulations as to labour protec-
tion.
The employee:
− is as well obligated to ensure his/her own safety;
− also has to arrange for the safety of other people who might be endan-
gered by certain actions or omissions;
− has to co-operate with the employer regarding “Fulfilment of legal Obliga-
tions”;
− has to use tools, machines, safety equipment, etc., in accordance with the
designated use.

For especially important information, the designations or labels following are
used:

Danger!

This “Danger!” can be found with all safety tips in these operating in-
structions where an imminent danger to life and limb of persons ex-
ists.

Warning!

This “Warning!” can be found with all safety tips in these operating
instructions where a potential danger for life and limb of persons ex-
ists.

Attention!

This “Attention!” can be found with all safety tips in these operating
instructions where the risk of little or average injuries as well as of
material damage on the machine or its surroundings exists.

Observe the respectively mentioned safety tips and act especially carefully in
these cases! Inform other drivers of all the safety tips, as well!
Besides the indications in these operating instructions, the general safety rules
and rules for the prevention of accidents have to be respected!

Important!

This “Important!” refers to certain circumstances the observance of


which guarantees safe, proper and efficient handling with the ma-
chine.

In the interest of designated use of the wheel loader and the working
basket, all instructions should be met.

● The eyecatcher-point marks working and operating steps. These steps ha-
ve to be executed in order from the top to the bottom!
− The dash marks enumerations.

1.4 Information for the Operator


These operating instructions are an essential part of the working basket. As
the operating instructions will probably considerably be used on the worksite,
the operator is obliged:
− To make sure that one copy of the operating instructions is always avail-
able on the driver’s stand of the wheel loader,
− to take care that all drivers attentively read and understand the operating
instructions that they and observe and adhere to all the indications.
The working basket may only be operated by persons who are introduced and
trained, and who have been instructed by you in written form. Clearly prescribe
the individual responsibilities for maintenance and repair work to be done by
skilled personnel.
Besides the operating instructions and the binding regulations for prevention of
accidents that are valid in the country of use and at the worksite, the recog-
nized professional engineering rules for safe and professional working have to
be observed.
You are obliged to complete these operating instructions by instructions due to
existing national directions as to prevention of accidents and protection of envi-
ronment, including information regarding responsibility and obligatory registra-
tion as to consideration of particularities within the company, e.g. with regards
to work organisation, working methods and personnel employed.

The working basket has to be checked by an expert in accordance with the


prevailing customary regulations after one year at the latest. The inspection
proof has to be documented in written form.
It is not allowed to make any modifications, additions or conversions to the
working basket that might affect safety without having the consent of
HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH! This also applies to installa-
tion, adjustment and alteration of safety devices as well as to welding works on
load-bearing parts.
Spare parts being used must comply with the technical requirements specified
by HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH. Original spare parts can
be relied to do so

Danger!

Should defects occur that might affect operational safety, immediately


stop operation of the wheel loader.

1.5 Service and Warranty


HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH does its utmost to deal with
your questions and orders as quickly as possible. For enquiries we ask you to
always state your name and address as well as the identification data of your
wheel loader/working basket. The latter can be found on the identification
sheet (page III) of these operating instructions for the wheel loader/working
basket.
Within the warranty period, warranty services of HERMANN PAUS MASCHI-
NENFABRIK GMBH for the working basket apply to damage that can be
proven to go back to faults of construction, in material and in manufacturing.
Warranty period covers 1 year, however, 18 months at maximum upon com-
pletion. Warranty starts with handing over / putting into operation of the ma-
chine by the dealer / customer.
Warranty will only entirely be assumed, if
− delivery inspection, handing over and instruction are carried out according
to the regulations;
− the working basket is only used according to its designated use;

− the instructions for inspection and maintenance are strictly adhered to.
In case of a warranty claim, HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH
covers costs for material and mounting that arise directly from repair work car-
ried out on the machine. For this, spare parts prices and payment rates of
HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH are valid.
Apart from that, please refer to the terms of warranty and to the general terms
of business of HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH.

1.6 After Sales Service


If loader and working basket shall work faultlessly, it must receive thorough
maintenance. The driver himself carries out routine/daily supervision, lubrica-
tion and several checks. Repair work requiring special tools and experienced
mechanics have to be left with an authorized repair shop or the PAUS after
sales service.
They know how to care for your vehicle and can provide the best possible after
sales service.

1.7 Information as to Author and Patent Rights


These operating instructions are protected by copyright. The rights justified by
this, in particular those of translation, reprint, taking of illustrations, of photo-
mechanic or digital data processing, even if only used in parts, remain re-
served by HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH.

1.8 Description of the Working Basket


The working basket consists of a stable frame and has a certain maximum car-
rying capacity of 300kg.
It is connected to the boom of the wheel loader by means of a mechanical
quick-change device and an electric cable.

2 Safety
The working basket has been built in accordance with state-of-the-art stan-
dards and the recognized safety rules. Nevertheless, its use may constitute a
risk to life and limb of the user or of third parties, or cause damage to the work-
ing basket and to other material property, if the equipment
− is used by personnel that has not been trained accordingly;
− is not used in accordance with the designated use;
− is modified or altered;
− repair or maintenance work is carried out improperly; and
− if the safety regulations are not observed.

Designated Use
The designated use only applies to the permissible maximum carrying capacity
(= 1 person of 80 kg each and additional load). Using the unit for purposes
other than intended is not allowed. HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK
GMBH cannot be held liable for any damage resulting from such use.
The designated use also involves:
− that the driver is at the age of 18;
− that all information contained in these operating instructions and in the op-
erating instructions of the wheel loader are observed;
− keeping the deadlines for inspection and maintenance work; and
− observing the technical data and the original manufacturer documentation
contained in these operating instructions.
− The working basket may only be operated with accessories that have been
approved for this purpose by HERMANN PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK
GMBH.
− Operation of the working basket is only allowed within the permissible tem-
perature range varying from -10°C to +40°C.
Using the unit for purposes other than intended is not allowed. HERMANN
PAUS MASCHINENFABRIK GMBH cannot be held liable for any damage re-
sulting from such use.

Operation Contrary to the Designated Use


Using the working basket is particularly not allowed for:
− work performed on or close to unprotected live components of electrical
equipment;
− lifting persons and additional load exceeding the maximum permissible lift-
ing weight;
− lifting load that is not safely resting on the load conveying device.

Residual Risks
Even if all safety regulations are observed, certain residual risks remain during
operation of the working basket:
Everyone who is working on and with the working basket must know these re-
sidual risks and has to observe the instructions which prevent that these resid-
ual risks result in accidents or damage.

Danger!

Risk of getting crushed during assembly and dismantling procedure


and while moving the wheel loader.

Persons staying near the working basket or wheel loader during as-
sembly and dismantling procedure might suffer from serious injury.

Before starting assembly or dismantling procedure, make sure that


no-one is staying in the danger zone.

Warning!

Danger due to uncontrolled rolling motion of the wheel loader.

Persons may suffer from serious injury and heavy material damage
may occur due to improper parking and rolling motion of the wheel
loader.

When leaving the driver’s stand always apply the parking brake (this
is also valid before entering the working basket).

Note: the wheel loader cannot be protected against rolling motion by


putting into a gear.

Warning!

Danger due to collision.

Avoid collision with fixed (buildings, etc.) or mobile (vehicles, cranes,


etc.) objects.

Always keep a sufficient distance to edges of excavation pits and slo-


pes!

Warning!

Danger due to power lines (also see 2.2).

If you got in touch with power lines:

- do not leave the working basket;

- if possible, turn boom out of the danger zone;

- prevent others from approaching and touching the machine;

- arrange for de-energization of the power line;

- only leave the working basket, if you are sure that the power
line touched / damaged has been de-energized!

Danger!

Danger due to uncontrolled rolling motion of the wheel loader. Risk of


sideslip and tilting on slopes or inclines.

When driving on sloping terrain there is the risk of sideslip and tilting
of the wheel loader which is aggravated extremely in case of

• high centre of gravity of boom,

• unprotected and / or slippery subsoil,

• high speed,

• sudden braking action and speeding-up,

• taking corners,

• driving across slopes.

Only drive on sufficiently surfaced and approved roads. On sloping


terrain only drive at reduced speed.

Attention!

Risk of injury by breathing in the exhaust gases.

Never breathe exhaust gases. Shut engine down, if the working basket
is standing still for a while. With running engine of vehicle, the work-

ing basket may only be operated in enclosed spaces, if these spaces


are ventilated adequately.

Warning!

Never lean out of the working basket!

Attention!

Risk of getting injured due to improper maintenance/repair work.

Due to improper inspection, maintenance and repair work, personal


injury and material damage may occur immediately or in the period
following.

Observe all information stated in these operating instructions as to


inspection and maintenance.

In case of doubt always contact the corresponding experts.

Only carry out such works on the machine which are expressly men-
tioned in these operating instructions.

Attention!

Always observe the maximum permissible inclination (3°) of the vehi-


cle!

Warning!

Never use objects – such as ladders – to enlarge the range of action of

Attention!

Only use the working basket, if the falling latch has been let down (en-
trance closed).

Attention!

Do not take up loads into the working basket in lifted position.

Attention!

Do not force working basket down to the ground.

Attention!

When using the working basket in enclosed spaces – such as halls –


absolutely make sure that the upper protective bracket is turned up.
The protective bracket should be turned up every time the working
basket is used.

Attention!

In case of defects that might endanger persons, immediately stop op-


eration of the working basket.

Take into account influences that might increase sensibility to the

If you got in touch with live overhead lines:

- warn others of approaching and touching the machine.

- arrange for de-energization of the power line.

When working near electrical overhead lines, the persons working with the
wheel loader have to observe the information following.
● If you work in surroundings you do not know, acquaint yourself with the
surroundings and check it as to electrical overhead lines, etc.
● Before starting to work near overhead lines, make sure that these lines ha-
ve been de-energized and that they are grounded.
● Wheel loader and working basket may never get into the danger zone of
overhead lines; these danger zones are shown in Ill. 2-2 and Ill. 2-3.
● As long as there is the risk that the boom touches the line, never take up
the working basket beneath live overhead lines.

4.1 Transporting the Working Basket on a Loading Platform


Before transport suitably weatherproof electric connections and operating
panels of the working basket (protection against water and similar).

Rating and choice of fixing means (ropes


and chains) has to be done in accordance
with the weight of the machine that is to be
transported. Forces occurring in the fixing
means and the fastenings of working bas-
ket and transporting vehicle according to
drawing (4).

Check fixing means:

them.

6 Operation

Attention!

When moving from the driver’s stand into the working basket, always
apply the parking brake, switch the drive unit to idle motion and with-
draw the ignition key. (Only start the engine from the upper operating
panel by means of the ignition key after having entered the working
basket).

Withdraw the key and keep it with you.

Afterwards, you can operate the wheel loader from the working bas-
ket.

Attention!

Using the loader from the driver’s stand is not possible as long as the
key switch on top in the operating panel is put to “basket operation”.

Attention!

Using the driver’s stand while moving the vehicle from the working
basket is not allowed.

Attention!

Always keep the falling latch closed when using the basket.

Before using the working basket once more check, if the lock bolts

6.1 Attaching the Working Basket


Proceed as described in the operating instructions of the wheel loader. After
having connected the working basket to the wheel loader by means of the
quick-change cylinder, you additionally need to insert safety bolts on both
sides of the quick-change plate and lock by means of cotter pins.

Attention!

Always make sure that the locking cylinder is completely extended.


Every time you mount / dismount the working basket to / from the
wheel loader, the safety bolt has to be fitted / removed. Without safety
bolt, operation of the basket is not allowed!

6.2 Before Starting to Work from the Working Basket


● See to mechanical connection from wheel loader to working basket as de-
scribed in chapter 6.1.
● Apply parking brake.
● All operating levers and switches in neutral position.
● Emergency stop switch on the operating panel is unlocked.
● Switch “operation of boom functions” is activated.
● Withdraw the key and keep it with you.
● Afterwards, you can operate the wheel loader from the working basket.
● Establish electrical connection from boom (chapter 5.2.3) to working basket
(chapter 5.1).
● Open engine hood; activate master switch “emergency pump”.
● Lock engine hood.
● Enter basket and let falling latch down.
● Unlock emergency stop button in the basket.
● Insert ignition key.
● Activate the mode “working operation” from the basket by means of the key
via switch pos. 10 “key switch: operation of working basket ON/OFF”.
● Start engine from the working basket (first put key switch to pos. I, then
wait a moment and put key to pos. III for starting – let go off the key).
● The wheel loader with basket is ready for operation.

For operation of the boom from the basket, switch N must always be actu-
ated.
Operating lever for lifting and lowering of boom
A to the front for lifting
B to the back for lowering
Speed of the boom depends on how much the lever is moved into the respec-
tive direction. The more the lever is moved, the quicker the boom is moving.

7 Maintenance and Inspection


7.1 Preface
Proper maintenance and inspection within the time specified are the condition
for trouble-free operation and long durability of the working basket. The neces-
sary works are summarized in schedules and lists.
The works mentioned in the checklists are described in detail in the single
chapters of the maintenance and inspection instructions. For different works,
similar working procedures may be necessary. In order to avoid permanent
repetitions in the descriptions, those works are mentioned in the following.
Maintenance intervals stated apply to operation under normal conditions. Ex-
treme weather and working conditions may necessitate more frequent mainte-
nance works. In case of doubt consult your authorized PAUS contractual repair
shop.
Only use original PAUS spare parts. If other spare parts are used – even if
those seem to be quite similar – your right to claim under warranty expires and
conformity with the corresponding directives is no longer given. This is also
valid for demounting and adjustment of safety components.

Attention!

Supplementary maintenance instructions can be learned from the op-


erating instructions of the wheel loader. These instructions exclusive-
ly refer to the working basket.

7.2 Health and Safety in the Workplace

Attention!

ALWAYS wear tight-fitting protective clothes. Loose, wide clothing


may easily get caught by turning components of the machine and are
consequently very dangerous! Therefore, absolutely wear your perso-
nal protective equipment!

Attention!

Contaminated machine (e.g. due to operation on waste-disposal sites)

ALWAYS work in the open air or with adequate ventilation. Dust for-
mation on the machine or dust created while working may only be re-
moved by suction, not by blowing it off. Dust that has been removed,
needs to be moistened and kept in sealed tanks until safe waste dis-
posal.

Attention!

Before carrying out maintenance and adjusting work ALWAYS de-


pressurize the hydraulic system.

Attention!

Apply parking brake and block the wheels before starting mainte-
nance of the machine.

Attention!

Before starting to work under the vehicle always shut down the engine
and place wedges under the wheels.

Attention!

Never permit unqualified personnel to dismount or replace parts on


the vehicle. Do as well not permit anyone to remove larger assemblies
without using lifting appliances.

7.3 Instructions as to Maintenance


The instructions following inform of those maintenance works, the owner may
have executed on the machine by trained personnel:
● Thorough service and maintenance (and repair of possible defects) are the
best possible guarantee for constant and proper functioning and less need
for repair.
● Before starting maintenance and / or repair work always put the basket
down on the ground.
● All movable parts – such as the upper protective bracket – have to be lu-
bricated / greased as the need arises.
● From time to time, check all screw connections as to tight fitting.

The tables following give a survey on the tightening torques for shoulder studs
having a coefficient of friction of 0.14 in total, for non- or only slightly lubricated
surfaces without follow-up treatment:

7.6 Inspection “UVV” (Germany)


7.6.1 Preliminary Remarks

According to the regulations for prevention of accidents (“UVV”) wheel loaders


must receive regular inspections at least once a year. Furthermore, extraordi-
nary inspections have to be done after design changes and essential repair on
load-bearing parts; those are performed by experts. Essential changes are e.g.
increase of carrying capacity, changes in design, change in traction, enlarge-
ment of lifting height exceeding the limits specified by the manufacturer, weld-
ing work on load-bearing parts. A non-essential change is the replacement of
parts of the same kind; this is always ensured, if you use original spare parts
by PAUS.

7.6.2 Inspection by an Expert – Wheel Loader

Experts are persons who have sufficient knowledge of wheel loaders and the
respective national protective devices, regulations for prevention of accidents,
directives and the generally recognized regulations of engineering to such ex-
tent that they can judge on the safe state of wheel loaders.

7.6.3 Arranging for the Inspections

The operator of the wheel loader has to arrange for the inspections. He is re-
sponsible for appointing an expert. He has to make sure that the person ap-
pointed comes up to the requirements mentioned before. The operator has
special responsibility, if he appoints a person as expert that is working in his
company. The inspections can be performed by us, our support dealers or our
after-sales service stations.

8.3 Emergency Lowering


In emergencies – or in case of failure of engine – you can lower the boom to
the ground by means of the emergency lowering pump, pos. 100. For this pur-
pose the pump lever, pos. 120, has to be put into the emergency pump.
Afterwards, proceed to pumping until the boom has reached the ground.
