Para el mundo de la música ella simplemente es Adele, pero sus allegados la conocen como Adele
Laurie Blue Adkins. nació el 5 de mayo de 1988 en Tottenham, Londres, Inglaterra. Su madre fue
Penny Adkins, una inglesa que tuvo que afrontar sola la responsabilidad de criarla, ya que su
padre, el galés Mark Evans, era alcohólico y las abandonó cuando ella tenía dos años. La cantante
recibió una gran influencia musical materna, ya que era Penny quien la animaba a cantar en
reuniones de amigos y la llevaba con ella a conciertos.
Comenzó a cantar cuando apenas tenía tres años de edad, ella doraba cantar e imitaba sobretodo
a las Spice Girls, el grupo británico femenino más importante por aquellos tiempos y quienes se
convirtieron en su más grande influencia.
A los nueve años se traslada con su madre a Brighton y cuando cumplió doce regresaron a
Londres, para volver a mudarse más adelante a West Norwood. A este lugar haría referencia en
la canción Hometown Glory, que compusó a la edad de dieciséis años en el 2004. Dos años
después ingresó a la famosa Brit School of Performing Arts de Croydon, en donde conoció a otros
músicos que serían reconocidos también, como Kate Nash y Leona Lewis.
Carrera musical
Un amigo suyo subió a la red social My Space, una pequeña producción con tres canciones
cantadas por Adele, que de inmediato atrajeron la atención de la industria discográfica, gracias a
los matices en su voz que le han valido comparaciones con grandes personalidades del soul, como
Ella Fitzgerald.
Gracias a ello, pudo lanzar su primer single, Chasing Pavements, con el que se instauró como una
de las promesas musicales más destacadas de su generación y también se convirtió en un
superventas.
En el 2008 firmó un contrato con XL Recordings para lanzar el álbum, 19, título alusivo a la edad
con la que contaba en ese momento. Éste valió ganar dos premios Grammy como Mejor Artista
Nueva y Mejor Interpretación Vocal de Pop por una Cantante Femenina.
Su segunda producción discográfica salió a la venta en el 2011 y se llamó 21. Pronto, se convirtió
en el cuarto álbum musical más vendido de todos los tiempos.
Hoy en día, se ha convertido en inspiración para muchas mujeres, no solamente por su voz, sino
por ser una chica con curvas que logró el éxito sin obsesionarse con su peso.
