Q 1.
A. Arrange the elements as per
i. C, F, Cl, O (increasing order of electronegativity)
ii. Cl, F, Br, I (increasing order of electron affinity)
iii. Mg, Al, S, Cl (decreasing order of nuclear charge)
iv. Na, K, Mg, Ar (increasing order of atomic radius)
v. Ar, Kr, Ne, He (decreasing order of ionization potential)
B. A compound is formed between the atoms X and Y. if the atomic number of X is 19 and Y is 8,
then answer the following:
i. State the valencies of X and Y
ii. What are the ions formed by X and Y, if any?
iii. In the reaction between X and Y, explain which one gets oxidized.
iv. Give oxidation and reduction reaction, showing electrons.

i. Carbon tetrachloride
ii. Hydronium ion
iii. Ammonia
Q4)
a) An element ’Q’ has configuration (2, 8, 18, 1) without identifying ’Q’
i. Predict the sign and charge of ion ’Q’
ii. State whether the element is a metal or a non-metal.
iii. Write down the formula of its zincate.
iv. Write down the probable formula of the oxide of the element ’Q’
v. Is it a transition metal? Justify your answer.
3
b) Give one test each to distinguish between the following pairs of chemicals
Q5)
a) Give one equation for the laboratory preparation of the following compounds
i. Ammonia using metal nitrides.
ii. Hydrogen chloride
iii. Sulfuric acid
b)
i. Calculate molecular mass of a gas, 5.6 L of which at STP weighs 8 kg. If the elemental gas
has atomic mass 16, what is its atomicity?
ii. Calculate percentage by weight of nitrogen in K4Fe(CN)6
{Ar: K = 39, C = 12, N = 14, Fe = 56 }
iii. Ammonia is burned in excess oxygen in the presence of a catalyst. Write the balanced
chemical equation and determine the volume of oxygen required to produce 800 cm3 of
nitric oxide. Also calculate the number of molecules of ammonia used up in the same
reaction.
