2. Greetings
Good morning, class! Good morning, ma’am!
Before you sit down, please arrange
your seats properly.

3. Checking of Attendance

today?

Class, last meeting we discussed about

the ways in gathering data.

Who can tell me again the ways of how We can gather data through interview,
we gather data? by giving questionnaire, through
observations, and experiments.
Very good!

How can we gather data through an Interview is referred to as the direct

interview? method of gathering data. We gather
data through interview by questioning
face-to-face the respondent.

How about through questionnaires? This method is an indirect method of

gathering data. We make us of written
questions to be answered by the
respondents.

Who can describe how we can gather We gather data through observation in
data through observations? a way that we make use of different
human senses.

Lastly, how can we gather data through This method is usually done in
experiments? laboratories. We gather data to find out
the cause and effect relationship of a
thing.
Very well said, everyone!

B.1. ACTIVITY:
So after gathering and organizing data,
we now need to present those data in a
most presentable way.

Who will read our objective for today? At the end of the lesson, students
should be able to:
1. Describe and differentiate the
different kinds of graphs in representing
organized data; and
2. Use appropriate graphs to represent
organized data: pie chart, bar graph,
histogram and line graph.

Class, do you want to play a game?

Let’s have a game. This game is
entitled, “Make me whole again”.

I will group you into four. Each group

should select a leader and a reporter.
The leader will come to me to get the
envelopes.
Inside the envelopes, you will find
puzzle pieces. All you have to do is to
solve the puzzle to form an image. After
that, you’ll post it on the board. Later, a
reporter will describe the image that
their group has formed. I will just give 1
minute for each reporter to talk in front.
Any questions? None!
Before we start, what are the things we
should consider in doing an activity? In having a group activity, we must:
Cooperate, Respect Everyone’s Idea,
Stay in our Group, Observe orderliness
and cleanliness, and minimize our
voice.
I will just give you 2 minutes to perform Yes, ma’am!
this game. Are you ready?

B.2. ANALYSIS:

How did you find the game? It was exciting and enjoyable, ma’am.

Let’s have the reporter for group 1.

What can you observe on the image Expected Answer:
that you’ve formed? It is a circle that has slices with different
color. Each slice contains a percentage,
ma’am.
Let’s give them five claps.
How about the second group? Expected Answer:
In the picture, we observe that it has
bars with different heights and colors.
The bars are separate from each other.
Let’s give them another five claps.
Let’s hear from the third group? Expected Answer:
The picture looks like the second group,
ma’am. It also has bars with different
heights but the bars are connected.
Let’s give them five claps, class.
And lastly, let’s have the last group. Expected Answer:
It has points, ma’am. Then, it connects
the

Very good everyone!

Did you notice some similarities among

these images? What are those?
Yes, ma’am!
That’s right! All the images are graphs, ma’am.
So, what does the first graph represent?
The first graph shows how much water
That’s correct. So, how about you, how we use and it shows the percentage.
do you use your water at home?
Expected Answer:
We use water to wash our dishes,
laundry our clothes, to take a bath, for

water, right? How can you conserve
water, then? We conserve water by only using it
when it is necessary. We also use pale

the most? We use water the most in toilet with
26.7% of the water.
Why did you say so? It is because it has the biggest slice,
ma’am.
That’s right.
What kind of graph is this, based on the It is a pie chart, ma’am.
observation of group 1?

Let’s have a look on the second graph. The graph shows the birthday of
What does it represent? students by month.

That’s right.
In what month have the most number of On June, ma’am.
birthdays? It is because June has the tallest bar.
Why do you say so? There are 10 students, ma’am.
So how many students have a birthday
on June?

Very good!
Then what kind of graph is this? That is a bar graph, ma’am.

Let’s proceed to the next graph. The graph shows the heights of the
What does the third graph show? students. It also shows how many
number of students got that scale of
height.
Most of the students have a height of
That’s right. So, in what range of height 61-65 inches.
do most of the students have? It is because it has the tallest bar.
Why do you say so?
Very good! So what kind of graph is
this? It is a histogram.

Now, let’s take a look at the last image.

What does this graph shows? The graph shows Sam’s weight from
January to May.
What can you say about Sam’s weight? Sam is getting heavier, ma’am.
So in what Month does Sam got
heaviest? Why? In May, Sam got 73 kg.
Why did you say so? It is because it got the highest point.

Right. So, what kind of graph is this? This is a line graph.

Very good.

So, what did we gather just by analyzing

and observing the graphs? We gather different data.
Very good!
Class, what can we conclude from
these, then? The graphs represent data, ma’am.
That’s right.

B.3. ABSTRACTION:

Class, how much is your baon for whole

day? 50! 20! 10!
Okay. Can you still save money from
your baon? Yes, ma’am!
Where did you spend your money in a
way that you can still have money left to Possible Answer:
save? Yes, student A. My baon every day is 50 pesos. I spend
10 pesos for fare, 20 pesos for snacks
in the morning, and 10 pesos for buying
some materials like ball pen or paper.
Then, I’ll have 10 pesos left. I will put
that in to my piggy bank, ma’am!
Very good!
What kind of graph can we use to A pie chart, ma’am!
represent this data?
Why pie chart?
Who will read this? (Chart posted on the A pie chart is a chart that is circular in
board) shape. It represents data and
information in each slice with different
sizes. It presents data that are related
to a whole.
Can we use pie chart to represent your
data? Why? Yes, because the baon we have
represent a whole. Then it was divided
That’s right! to show how we budgeted the money.
Who will illustrate it on the board?
Expected Answer:
Where Did My Baon
Go? Fare
Snacks
Others
Savings

(Student’s answer may vary)

So, when can we use a pie chart? We will use pie chart if we are to
represent data that are related to a
whole.
That’s right.

Class, who among you here likes color

Blue? How about color Red? Color (Students will raise their hands)
Yellow? Color Pink? And color Green?

What do we now have? We now have data.

That’s right. If we have this kind of data,
what should be the appropriate graph to We can use a bar graph.
use to represent this?
Why do you say so? Why not pie chart? It is because we are going to see the
difference between the colors and to
see how many students likes that color.
From your observation, what is a bar
graph? It is a graph that uses bar with different
heights to represent data.
Okay, so who will read this? A bar graph is a graph that uses bar to
compares and contrast numbers of
data.
Now, can we use a bar graph to
represent this data? Yes, ma’am!

Who will come to the board and show it Expected Answer:

So, what kind of data should we use to We can use a histogram!

represent this data?
Why histogram? It is because we have the scale like
from 6:00 to 6:30, like that.

Okay, who will read this? A histogram is a graph that uses bars to
represent continuous data.
Is what we have a continuous data? Yes, ma’am.
Who will illustrate it on the board? Expected Answer:

Very good!
Class, do you still remember your
grades when you were Grade 6 from
your first quarter up to last quarter?
What are your grades? Let’s have (The student will recite his/her grade)
student A.

What kind of graph can we use to

represent this data? A line graph!

Okay. So what is a line graph? A line graph is a graph with points

connected by lines to show how
something changes over a short or long
period of time.
Are our data shows changes? Yes, ma’am.
Can we use a line graph to represent
our data? Yes!
Who can show it on the board? Expected Answer:

B.4. APPLICATION:

Now, let’s see if you really understand

the lesson. We’ll have another game.
This game is like ‘Pass the Message’
game in which you will have the same
group. You’ll line up and each group will
have their first representative to come to
me. I will whisper the organized data
and you will determine the appropriate
graph to use to represent it. You will
pass your answer up to your last
member. The last member will write the
answer on a cardboard and will raise it.
The first one to raise the correct answer
will gain a point. After that, the members
will move. Meaning that the member
who raised the cardboard will come to
me and will be the first on the line again.
Do you understand?

Let’s start.
Determine what is the appropriate graph
to use:
1. Joseph, a barbecue vendor outside
Gadgaran Integrated School, recorded
his sales for the whole week.
Monday - ₱ 400.00
Tuesday - ₱ 300.00
Wednesday - ₱ 250.00
Thursday - ₱ 300.00
Friday - ₱ 450.00 - Line Graph

2. In Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral,

during Sundays, there is a mass every
hour. Jennelyn is a candle vendor
outside the Cathedral and she’s always
there during Sunday. She wondered
how many people will arrive to attend
the mass every hour. So, she recorded
it:
8:00 - 9:00 AM - 150 people
9:00 - 10:00 AM – 200 people
10:00 - 11:00 AM – 125 people
1:00 - 2:00 PM – 125 people
2:00 - 3:00 PM – 175 people
3:00 - 4:00 PM 200 people
- Histogram
3. Kim had a productive day on
Saturday. And so, she decided to record
the activities that she have done and to
how many percentage of time she
consumed.
Take a bath – 5%
Eat – 5%
Do the household chores – 40%
Do her assignments – 20%
Study for her subjects – 20%
Sleep – 10%
- Pie Chart
4. James like to share his fruits to his
classmates. But first, he decided to
record the favorite fruits of all his 50
classmates.
Mangoes – 10
Apples – 12
Bananas – 8
Guavas – 5
Oranges – 10
Grapes - 5 - Bar Graph
(After the game)

C. GENERALIZATION:

What are the kinds of graphs? The kinds of graphs are pie chart, bar
graph, histogram and line graph.
When should we use a pie chart? If we are going to present data that are
related to a whole.
How about the bar graph? If we are going to compares different
data using a bar.
What about a histogram? If we are going to represent a
continuous data.
And a line graph? If we are going to show how something
changes over a short and long period of
time.
Very good! Let’s give everyone a round
of applause!
