The changes that can occur in old age involve several aspects:
Physiological changes: cells age, body structure changes, elasticity and hydration are
lost in the skin (wrinkles appear).
Changes in health: increases the prevalence of diseases (morbidity and mortality).
Nutritional changes: the metabolic needs are no longer the same, and therefore the
nutrition must be more specific.
Changes in elimination: incontinences may appear, which have very important psychic
and social consequences for the elderly.
Changes in activity: the exercise rate decreases, although it is more necessary than
ever for the individual to remain active.
Changes in sleep: the pattern of rest changes, the individual does not follow routines.
Changes in perception: the sense organs can be affected, leading to senso
ry problems (deafness, vision problems.)
Social changes: social relationships and roles are different, even within the family.
Many times the person is not actively involved in society either.
Sexual changes: due to physical limitations in sexual organs, and erroneous thoughts
rooted in society.
Changes in self-concept: attitude, identity, as well as the body image of oneself
changes, and is usually negative. Decrease self-esteem
