– BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-47 Hunmen to strengthen will-power and drive, and to instil a sense of

direction and aim in one's life. This combination is excellent to treat the mental exhaustion, lack of drive and
aimlessness which is typical of chronic depression.

BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-49 Yishe to strengthen will-power and drive and empty the Mind and
Intellect of obsessive thoughts, worries and confused thinking.

– BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-42 Pohu to strengthen will-power and drive, settle the Corporeal Soul
and release emotions constrained in the chest and diaphragm.

– BL-23 Shenshu, BL-52 Zhishi and BL-44 Shentang to strengthen will-power and drive, calm the mind and
relieve anxiety, depression, mental restlessness and insomnia. This combination harmonizes Kidneys and Heart
(and therefore Will-Power and Mind) on a mental-emotional level.

HE-7 Shenmen calms the Mind and nourishes the Heart. It is especially indicated for mental-emotional
problems occurring against a background of deficiency of Heart-Blood or Heart-Yin.

HE-6 Yinxi calms the Mind: it is especially used in Excess patterns of the Heart with Empty-Heat.

HE-8 Shaofu and HE-9 Shaochong calm the Mind and are used for severe mental restlessness, anxiety and
insomnia from Excess Heart patterns such as Heart-Fire or Heart Phlegm-Fire.

P-7 Daling calms the Mind especially in Excess patterns. It also resolves Phlegm from the Heart and is
especially indicated for emotional problems from the breaking of relationships.

P-6 Neiguan calms the Mind, lifts mood, relaxes the chest and is especially indicated for emotional problems
associated with stagnation of Qi. P-6 can be combined with:
– SP-4 Gongsun to open the Yin Linking Vessel, nourish Blood, relax the chest, calm the Mind and
settle the Ethereal Soul.
– LIV-3 Taichong to strengthen its Qi-moving action in emotional problems from repressed anger.
– Du-20 Baihui to lift mood, clear the Mind and relieve depression.
– Du-26 Renzhong to lift mood, clear the Mind, open the Mind's orifices and relieve depression.
– ST-40 Fenglong to calm the Mind, open the chest to relieve it of constrained emotions, and open the
Mind's orifices.

KI-9 Zhubin calms the Mind, strengthens Will-Power and opens the chest. It is especially indicated to relieve
anxiety and depression occurring against a background of Kidney deficiency and with a feeling of oppression of
the chest.

S.I.-5 Yanggu clears mental confusion and indecision due to difficulty in discriminating choices in life.

S.I.-3 Houxi strengthens the Will-Power, drive and determination. It is an important point to relieve depression
occurring against a background of Kidney deficiency

G.B.-40 Qiuxu strengthens the Will-Power and the Mind. It bolsters the person's capacity of making decisions.

G.B.-13 Benshen calms the Mind, settles the Ethereal Soul and gathers Essence to the head. It is particularly
indicated for severe anxiety and mental restlessness occurring against a background of a Liver disharmony. It is
also for jealousy and suspicion. The "Complete Book of Jing Yue" (1624) says that this point is for lack of
clarity of the Mind deriving from injury of the Ethereal Soul by sadness.73(252) This point can be combined
with:
– Du-24 Shenting to enhance its calming effect: the combination of these two points has a powerful
calming effect on the Mind and Ethereal Soul and they are particularly useful in Liver disharmonies.
– HE-7 Shenmen to calm the Mind in severe anxiety occurring against a background of Heart
disharmonies.

G.B.-15 Toulinqi calms the Mind and settles the Ethereal Soul. This point is used when the person is subject to
emotional fluctuations and obsessive thoughts.

G.B.-17 Zhengying calms and clears the Mind. It stimulates memory and concentration. It is indicated in
depression.

G.B.-18 Chengling settles the Ethereal Soul and Corporeal Soul and stops obsessive thoughts. On a physical
level, it stimulates the dispersing and descending of Lung-Qi and opens the nose.

LU-7 Lieque settles and opens up the Corporeal Soul. This point has a releasing effect on emotions (especially
sadness, worry and grief) constraining the Corporeal Soul in the chest.

Ren-15 Jiuwei calms the Mind and settles the Corporeal Soul. It is especially indicated to release emotions
constraining the Corporeal Soul in the chest and manifesting with a feeling of oppression or tightness of the
chest. It is a very calming point, especially in mental-emotional problems occurring against a background of
Deficiency conditions. This point combines well with Du-19 Houding to calm the Mind and relieve anxiety,
insomnia and mental restlessness.

Ren-4 Guanyuan strengthens the Will-Power and calms the Mind. It is a very grounding point which calms the
Mind by attracting Qi downwards and rooting it in the Kidneys. It is indicated in anxiety and mental
restlessness occurring against a background of Kidney deficiency

Du-24 Shenting stimulates intelligence and clears the Mind. Its combination with G.B.-13 has been described
above.

Du-21 Qianting strengthens the Mind. It is indicated in conditions of Mind Weakened causing slight anxiety,
insomnia and depression.

Du-20 Baihui clears the Mind, lifts mood, and stimulates memory and concentration.

Du-19 Houding calms the Mind and strengthens Will-Power. It is indicated in severe anxiety and mental
restlessness occurring against a background of Kidney deficiency with Empty-Heat unsettling the Mind. Du-18
Qiangjian opens the Mind's orifices and calms the Mind. It also regulates Liver-Blood and is therefore indicated
for severe mental rest-lessness, agitation, mental confusion and obsessive thoughts from Mind Obstructed
occurring against a background of Blood stasis.

Finally, the following are point combinations used in the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital in Nanjing:
Dreamy state: Du-14 Dazhui, L.I.-11 Quchi, G.B.-34 Yanglingquan, Ren-8 Shenque and Ren-4
Guanyuan.
Forgetting words: Du-20 Baihui, BL-8 Luoque, HE-5 Tongli, KI-4 Dazhong.
Obsessive ideas: Du-18 Qiangjian, S.I.-3 Houxi, G.B.-39 Xuanzhong.
Jealousy: P-7 Daling and G.B.-43 Xiaxi.
Difficulty in concentrating: G.B.-17 Zhengying, P-5 Jianshi, Yintang, ST-40 Fenglong.
Poor memory: Du-20 Baihui, HE-7 Shenmen, KI-3 Taixi, G.B.-18 Chengling.
Lack of will-power: Du-19 Houding, G.B.-6 Xuanli, P-6 Neiguan, SP-10 Xuehai.
Emotionally up and down: G.B.-15 Toulinqi, Du-20 Baihui, P-8 Laogong, KI-1 Yongquan, Du-25
Suliao.
