Mobile gaming addiction refers to excessive mobile gaming that results to some negative

consequences. The causes of mobile gaming addiction are not only based on the features of

mobile games but also to the situations of the people who get addicted in it. Mobile games serve

as pastime to some people who used to get bored in their homes or sometimes in their work.

When mobile gaming becomes excessive, it can result to negative consequences. The

participants to this addiction have sometimes no limit in age because even kids learn to play

games in mobile phones and other devices. As a child, they are easily fascinated in games

especially when they know and admire the characters in the game they play. Adults and parents

are also prone to this kind of addiction. When there are opportunities and vacant times, they try

to play some games and when they are attracted, they will play again and again. They will not

notice that one day they are hooked and addicted in a certain mobile game.

The global health agency said classifying “gaming disorder” as a medical condition

would help governments and healthcare providers to be more vigilant to identify the risks. The

decision to list compulsive video gaming as a new health problem was based on scientific
evidence, according to Shekhar Saxena, director of WHO department for mental health and

substance abuse. Saxena said parents and friends of video game enthusiasts should be mindful of

a potentially harmful problem. “Be on the lookout,” Saxena said while noting concerns should be

raised if the gaming habit appears to be taking over. “If it’s interfering with expected functions

of the person – whether studies, socialization or work – then you need to be cautious and perhaps

seek help,” he said. According to Saxena, there is a need and demand for treatment of video

gaming addiction in many parts of the world. The British Psychological Society, however,

stressed that not every child who spends hours in the room playing games is an addict.

Stopping video games for any reason has a long-lasting negative impact on child’s emotions. He

may become depressed, moody, angry, aggressive or violent when he is unable to play. Child has

stolen video games from stores or friends, or stolen money from others in order to buy video

games, more than once. He frequently lies about how much time he spends playing video games.

So what can you do to limit video game playing and create healthy boundaries around it?

Gaming addiction is still the mysterious problem, more terrifying than alcohol or drugs

addiction. Like the expert from Amsterdam say, they are powerless over their a ddiction. But

these addicts aren't hooked on drugs or alcohol. They are going cold turkey to break their

dependence on video games. The lure of a fantasy world is especially pertinent to online role-

playing games. These are games in which a player assumes the role of a fictional character and

interacts with other players in a virtual world. As Young puts it, an intelligent child who is

unpopular at school can "become dominant in the game." The virtual life becomes more

appealing than real life. We must respond to this problem seriously.
