Class Dimensions
climate, student perspectives, and teacher sensitivity. Right, when you enter a classroom, you can
Identify these dimensions some more evident than others. If teachers keep these dimensions
present when communicating with students, it will create a better classroom environment. In the
video “Morning Circle at Preschool” I was able to identify a dimension stated above. For
example, the Positive climate was the dimension that was more prevalent throughout the video.
As the video started one minute in, I noticed how interactive the teacher was with the
entire class. She also had full control at all times. For example, when the teacher instructed the
students to give their neighbor a high five, few students ran up to her. The teacher stated that
they were to provide only their neighbors with a high five, not her. This action showed how the
teacher enforced the rules to help the students positively master their listening skills. Instead, she
could have yelled at the students to go sit down, yet she restated what she was assigned to do
respectfully.
As the video continued, I also noticed that there was a special needs student in the class
named Scott. After examining the interaction between Scott and his teacher, it was reassuring
that the teacher was demonstrating a favorable climate towards him. For instance, when the
teacher was conducting the class, there is no evident special treatment. Instead, the teacher
accommodated Scott effortlessly by asking simple questions, such as “would you like to stand or
sit for the pledge of allegiance?” She also made sure to get on her knees so she would be eye
level when speaking to her student. Scott responded, “I’ll sit” and that was the end of it. Even

though she did not show special treatment, you could tell Scott appreciated the gesture of his
Shortly after when it was time to select what song to sing the teacher chose a students
card at random. That student chosen will choose what song they would sing next as a class. Scott
was selected to pick the next song. His teacher did not discourage him from selecting even
though he has a speech problem. I loved that his teacher did that, she then again went towards
him and got eye level to help him choose the next song. This gesture is an excellent example of
positive climate. I could only imagine how great Scott is feeling since his disability did not
discourage his teacher from allowing him to be interactive within the class activities. This kind
of gesture will help Scott develop confidence when dealing with his disability in the classroom.
The teacher in the video does a great job of creating a favorable climate for her students.
We should keep in mind that many young students do not understand the disabilities that are
around them. Throughout the video when working as a class, I did not see any negative gesture
towards Scott, and this may be because the teacher was present at all times. What will happen if
the setting was different and the students were distant from their teacher? You might witness
some judgment mainly because kids do not have a keen understanding of the disabilities around
them.
activities relating to the topic. Some activities that can help in this situation will be reading a
book explaining how unique we all are in our way. Embracing that our differences are what
makes us unique in this big world. Along with creating situations where students help one
another in a skill the other lacks. Working together and supporting one another will bring

awareness to students. In hopes of installing that helping each other when needed is the right
thing to do. Children learn from us in everything we do, so let's create a favorable climate, so
