CHECKLIST FOR DISSERTATION

Here is a checklist to help you in formatting and presenting the dissertation

Word limit: 6,000 words in the main body of

the dissertation this excludes the front and
contents pages.This does include the
references in the text. Beyond 10% above the
word limit will incur a penalty (See Programme
Handbook)
Remember to ensure confidentiality and
anonymity. You should use pseudonyms for
both patients/clients and also for Trusts or units
(see notes above for elaboration).

Back cover white card, front cover needs to be What you have the dissertation bound

following items
Programme Title
The module number and title
The title of the dissertation
Your name ,your student ID number,
Your intake:identify which field and GT group
Your supervisors name
Submission date
Word count
No pictures
No University crest/logo
Table of contents

Your dissertation could include an

Abstract abstract and is best written after you
have finished the project. It should
consist of approximately 200 words and
provide an overview of the whole study,
including conclusions drawn. It is not
included in the word allowance. It will
not form part of the mark awarded.
Main body – sections could be highlighted to
help your reader; work with your supervisor on
the structure and presentation. There is no
generic “best fit” for structure – the optimal
structure for your dissertation will depend on
your subject.
Reference list: Needs to be complete, i.e.
every item cited and referenced in the text of
the dissertation and in any appendices needs
to be recorded in the reference list. It should
not include citations and references that are not
in the text of the dissertation. Harvard style - as
per the latest edition of Cite Them Right.
Appendix (Appendices) – Optional
Formatting: Each page must be:
Word processed
Printed on both sides (should you wish)
Have a page number at the bottom or centre
right
Be in an 11 font, Arial
The spacing should be 1.5 spacing
A Bibliography is optional – it will not be
included in material assessed as part of
the criteria, it will not attract additional
marks.
Appendix (Appendices) –
Will not be included in the word limit.
Will not form part of the mark awarded.
However, if they are utilised they will
have to be referenced, should be
correct and there should be no breach
of Copyright.
Header and Footer optional, but this will
not attract additional marks.
