A. PREPARATION WORK:
Pipe sample: 100A, SCH10S, L=150 MM, 8 pcs (Type: SUS304L).
Pure argon gas ( 99.9 % purity ) .
Welding rod: + TIG weld rod: ER-308L, 2.4 mm , 3.2 mm
Testing area: at UBCF area of An Duong site.
The equipment used as follows:
Concerning to welder test, it’s special work so we have to pay more attention all steps:
Keep a safe distance from station areas at least 10 meters.
Barricade, put warning signs at the working place before working.
Portable grinder/cutting machine must have the cover to avoid accidents when the rock
breaks.
Fire extinguisher must be located in welding.
4. EXECUTION
A. Groove
Pipe ends and fittings shall be properly beveled
Beveled surfaces shall be thoroughly cleaned
A1.Type of welding:
Adhering substances such as oil, paint, dust, water, etc, shall be completely
removed before welding. A piece of cloth with organic solvent like thinner or
gasoline, a stainless steel wire brush and/or sand paper may be used to remove
any adhering substances.

D. Tack welds
Tack welds on pipe fit-up shall be minimum four (4) points with pipes alignment
carefully checked. Minimum heat shall be applied on executing tack welds.
Internal shielding not necessary on tack welding.
E. Welding works
AR gas shall be used to ensure complete penetration bead.
Complete penetration shall be observed to back bead, from starting
point to internal backslide of pipe thickness.
TIG welding machine shall be within 25m away from torch.
SUS pipe with thickness of 3mm or more shall be welded with 2 passes first pass shall
be complete penetration stringer bead pass, and the 2nd layer - a cover or filter pass.
All slags and scale shall be removed from the first layer by stainless steel wire.

F. Cleaning
Acid washing shall be done to remove welding slags and acid scale on the bead surface.
After acid washing, welded portions shall be neutralized with water cleaning
5. TESTING
A. Welder Test
All welder must be tested and accepted by KOBELCO-SANKYU JV Engineer
before to do the welding
Welder will weld a sample, the sample will be checked by KOBELCO-SANKYU JV
