Introduction

The contents of this case study were designed to address the Philippines’ growing

problem in terms of a multiplying society by studying the environment inside Kid’s ABC

school of Quezon City. Kid’s ABC school is a learning institution that is originally built as a

house until the owner of it decided to turn it into a school. It started teaching Pre-school until

recently last 2016; it became an elementary school, recognized by DepEd. Philippines was

once a great country but it came to a time when all matters are declining and this study aims

to target a specific dilemma through observing Kid’s ABC school.

One of the country’s problems is the uprising number of Teenage pregnancy

throughout the country and the reason may be the school’s lack of implementation to students

especially to elementary students which must be strongly effectuate as they progress to high

school. Also, it may be in the view of the fact that not all Filipinos can afford to go to a

learning institution in order to become aware of the subject. Kid’s ABC school, however, do

not deny the existence of the said problem and the critical situation of the country that is why

the faculty is trying their very best to cope with it.

As per every problem must be given a solution, the government proposed a

Comprehensive Sexuality Education to Philippine schools to be tackled as the research runs.

This report will provide an in-depth analysis of the problem that is being faced and

this analysis will help to identify several viable alternatives for resolving the issues being

experienced.
Background

Throughout the years since the late 1990s, numbers of teen are getting pregnant that

progress every year to become one of the Philippines’ struggles for its development. Sex

education perhaps might be the solution to this growing problem of the society; however,

even if the government strengthens the implication to schools, due to the Filipinos’ religious

background, some say it is irrelevant to teach students these kind of things as they can control

themselves in any way.

According to News Deeply, this country has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates

in the world. In every hour, 24 babies are born to teenage mother (most of it are result of Pre-

marital sex) when estimated is 500 new-borns a day.

In addition, HIV/AIDS cases are increasing due to lack of knowledge and

disregarding of contraceptives. These type of diseases can also become a threat not only to

the person who suffers from it but can be a threat to humanity itself.

On the other hand, if schools like Kid’s ABC school can strengthen the implication of

Comprehensive Sexual Education (CSE) as early in elementary level, students may be

knowledgeable about this and might lessen the casualties in the future.

Although the school do not deny the fact that there is an actual problem, the

constitution tries their best to teach students in a manner where the students can be as

comfortable as they are.


Problem

Pre-marital sex is not the only source of teenage pregnancy in the country but also the

Violence used against women and children are alike. Some reports say that children who are

constantly getting molested have greater chances of becoming pregnant resulting to physical

damage and emotional traumas. However, not all problems exist in the external environment

of a learning constitution but complications arise in the school itself.

(1)Some teachers who are given the task of teaching CSE are not professionals in that

kind of field and often teach incorrect information which is extremely lethal as it can leave a

wrong impression to students. (2)Students may still be subject to embarrassment as they

tackle about the changes they will experience in their body especially elementary students

who happen to be in their adolescent stage. This may result to the CSE’s insignificance

following (3) that CSE may be set aside and become an extra-curricular course and not a

primary one. (4)Also schools with religious ideologies cannot comply as a belief that they

might just confused their students from being godly with being realistic which is not a good

thing to do.

Despite these struggles, teachers in KABCS, especially the ones who teaches the

science subject, try to explain how they should take care of themselves e.g. self-hygiene,

adolescence adjustments like menstruation for girls and circumcision for boys. By having

this, teachers of the aforementioned school hope that these children will gain further

knowledge when they enter high school and learn it eventually.


Proposed Solution

Problems are not left behind unanswered. As a solution to this, sex education must

first start at home, knowing that family members build the sturdiest foundation of a growing

child. Parents can teach what to do when some stranger suddenly hold them or at least try to

molest them. Members of the same flock must teach every young generation and encourage

talking about it in private so they will know that such activities are sensitive and serious

topic. It also broadens their perspective and it can answer the questions regarding their

changing body as they age.

Also, Child sexual abuse can be avoided through this CSE, as they letting the students

know what is the difference between good and bad touch. It is also good to teach them in

school rather than they can only gain understanding through accessing pornographic sites

especially in this Digital age misleading them to store wrong ideas about sex and prepare the

ground for the transmission of STDs.

Kid’s ABC school of Quezon City, on the other hand, must strengthen their faith as

well as to acquire more knowledge to be more efficient in teaching this topic to children.

They can also present this idea to parents to encourage them to teach younglings the dangers

of the problem in a way where the lads feel comfortable.

If all this can be achieved, many students will be transformed into responsible adults

of the society in particular that teenagers in this age become sexually active. As they grow

they can be more productive and disciplined individuals when they have a strong foundation

that is built when they were younger.


Recommendations

For future case studies, a few more research on ‘why schools do not encourage CSE

to become a major subject’ and ‘why do topics like this appear to be irrelevant in the

computer age’ would be highly appreciated and will be beneficial to latter studies. It would

be best if the study continues to develop a plan to solve the conflict in this situation. As for

the company, it must be studied first if students in this facility can accumulate clearly such

knowledge in due time.
