The Great Depression – Scarcity of Food
 During the Great Depression (1929-1939) in the United States, most of the
people ran out of money and were unemployed resulting to their incapability of
buying food. Businesses were also going down leaving not enough food for
everyone. Therefore, there was a scarcity of food. Below, were the choices of
the people on how to obtain food during the Great Depression.

• People turned to
farming and produce
Farming their own food
• People can their food
to last longer

• Soup Kitchens were


established in every
city and town by
Soup charities, churches and
Kitchens the government
• They serve free meal
for hungry people

• Food Stamps are


provided by the
government to buy
Food food and other
Stamps necessities.
• These are given to a
class of people with
low income or poor
