The Design and Testing of Connections in Steel Sheeting and Sections

(ECCS Publication No. 21 (1983), £8) gives recommendations for the
performance and evaluation of tests to determine the ultimate load and
serviceability of connections and fastenings on the basis of different types
of failure in connections loaded in shear and tension. The paper describes
the experimental determination of design values for the carrying capacity
and of stiffness characteristics and gives design formulae for connections
with blind rivets, bolts, powder actuated fasteners, self-drilling screws
and self-tapping screws. Furthermore, the paper deals with the effects of
elastic subconstructions.

This paper and Mechanical Fa~mcnrs for Use in Steel ~ t i n g and

Sections (ECCS Publication No. 35 (1983), £10) form a complete
documentation on fasteners and fastening techniques. The latter
Recommendations contain essential technical data on the fasteners and
connections as well as on the experimental determination of the fastener
material properties required for design.

The Recommendations on The ~ of ProlUed Sheeting (ECCS

Publication No. 33 (1983), £6), prepared after several years of
discussions, give a complete view of the state of knowledge in the design
of profiled sheeting, The design principles have been largely accepted by
the member countries.

In addition to the design principles, the Recommendations Good

Praetige in Steel Ciaddli~aml ~ (ECCS Publication No. 34 (1983).
£6) give valuable instructions and suggestions for the structural design of
different types of roof and wall structures, on problems of building
physics and on erection and maintenance of such elements.
