Read the following important notes. Start at the top and continue reading until you reach a
version that does not apply to you.
Custom Programs
The software included on the RS-SQL CD for this release contains ONLY standard RS-SQL software. If
you are currently using custom software developed by O’Neil, you should contact O’Neil Technical
Support for help in determining if your custom software needs to be upgraded for this release. If
your custom software is critical for your daily operations, do NOT install the new release until you
get either assurance from Technical Support that your custom software is compatible with this
release, or you have received an upgraded, compatible version of the custom software.
Custom Invoice Definitions, files with extension .IDF, should be forward compatible with new
RS-SQL releases.
Custom Label Definitions, files with extension .LDF, should be forward compatible with new RS-
SQL releases.
Custom reports/files created through the use of the O’Neil Standard or O’Neil Extended
Financial Export should be forward compatible with new RS-SQL releases.
Custom reports delivered in files with extension .RCR may NOT be forward compatible.
Custom reports and programs delivered in a file with extension .EXE may NOT be forward
compatible.
Custom Reporting Services reports may NOT be forward compatible.
Custom RSMobile software may NOT be forward compatible.

You must be prepared to recover this RS-SQL database from a FULL backup in the event of
failure. Since many database objects are temporarily removed or destroyed, failure of this
upgrade will likely result in an unusable RS-SQL database. Before proceeding, verify that a FULL
backup exists and was performed after the last use of RS-SQL.
This upgrade will likely increase the size of the RS-SQL database (*.mdf) by between 15% and
20%. If your Database Recovery Model is Full you can also expect large transaction log growth.
It is recommended that you set the Database Recovery Model to Simple prior to upgrading and
return it to Full after the database has been upgraded. Additionally, temporary database
storage is required for the duration of the upgrade. Before proceeding, please ensure that there
is sufficient storage space available to allow both the database and the transaction log to grow
as necessary. Verify that the available disk space on the database server is equal to or greater
than the current size of your database and log files (*.mdf and *.ldf).
NOTE: There is a database size limit of 4GB in SQL 2005/2008 Express. If the database
(*.mdf) grows past this limit during the upgrade, the upgrade will fail and you will need to
restore your database from a backup. Consider upgrading to a full version of SQL Server.
Because of the significant nature of the database changes being performed, it is recommended
that all indexes be rebuilt upon successful completion of the upgrade. The time and storage
requirements necessary to rebuild indexes varies significantly.
It is also recommended that a DBCC CHECKDB be run against the database after this upgrade.
We recommend that you periodically run DBCC CHECKDB as part of your regular database
maintenance plan.
IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT THE INFORMATION PRESENTED HERE OR ABOUT YOUR READINESS
TO COMPLETE THIS UPGRADE, OR IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE PREPARING FOR THIS UPGRADE, CONTACT
THE O’NEIL SOFTWARE TECHNICAL SUPPORT TEAM BEFORE PROCEEDING.

64-bit Compatibility
O’Neil has successfully installed RS-SQL on a 64-bit operating system. If installing the RS-SQL
database on 64-bit SQL Server, any 64-bit processor should work. However, to install any of the RS-
SQL components, other than the database, or to use 32-bit SQL Server requires a processor that
supports a 32-bit subsystem. For example, the Xeon processor supports a 32-bit subsystem. The
Itanium processor does not. Before installing on a 64-bit environment please visit our web site for
our latest findings. Go to www.oneilsoft.com, then to Support Services, Download Center.

Run the Readiness Check program – version 3.07.xx and below only
Download the latest version of the Readiness Check program from the User Forum in the 4.xx
Download Section at www.oneilsoft.com/user-forum.
The Readiness Check program can be run on the database at any time before upgrading. Just make
sure that you run the Readiness Check program on the Production database before upgrading.
Do not ignore anything reported by the Readiness Check program. For more information on this
feature, read the 4.00 New Features document on the RS-SQL Documentation CD (\Misc_Docs\). Call
your local O’Neil Support Desk if you have any questions.
Communicate & process all data from your scanners before upgrading

Create a Full Database Backup!
Upgrade the Client on one computer. Do not install the Event Interest, Invoice
Scheduling, License Manager, and/or RSMobile Processing, Services at this time
Due to some special file installation requirements, you must upgrade/install at least one RS-SQL
Client machine before upgrading the database. Any client machine can be upgraded.
When upgrading from version 3.07.29 or below, the upgrade will automatically uninstall any old RS-
SQL components and will ask you to select the desired RS-SQL components again.
