STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

An aging population, hospital restructuring, a rising number of people with (multiple) chronic
diseases, and a growing demand for care in the community have seen the growth of the home and
community care sector in the USA, Europe and even in the developing countries like Nepal. In
South Asia, personal support workers (PSWs) are one of the largest and fastest growing
occupations. For example, in the state of Maharastra in India, an estimated 26,000 PSWs worked
in the home and community sector of home care in 2006, and in 2017, this number was estimated
to be 64,000. Nepal, also following the same trend, has seen a significant rise in the demand for
PSWs in recent years. Thus, the attractive future prospects combined with the inner contentment
acquired through helping the helpless people have driven me to pursue the PSW program, and I
have chosen Humber College to do the same.

An investment in knowledge that absorbs the truth about life pays the best interest. This phrase
emphasizes me to invest myself and get rewarded by the sight of someone getting better and to
have the chance to improve their independence and autonomy. I, Manisa Ale, a permanent
inhabitant of Chapakot Municipality– 1, Syangja, Nepal (formally Kuwakot–7, Syangja, Nepal),
am an ethical person who pursue my own ideas and wisdom to be self-confident and determined
towards my target to serve others. As far as my academics are concerned, I have completed SLC
from Bethany Boarding School, Kundhar, Kaski, Nepal in the year 2016 A.D. and diploma in
science stream from Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Phoolbari, Kaski, Nepal in the year 2018
A.D. securing G.P.A 3.65 and 3.53 respectively.

Ever since my childhood, I have always been seeing that the people with physical or mental
deformities or chronically ill as well aged are being isolated from society and get rid of proper
care, love and affection and since then I always wanted to integrate my knowledge with public
people so after my high schooling, I have been engaging with Senior Citizens Concern Society
(SCCS), Kaski, Pokhara for my internship as a support worker since August 15, 2019 till date.
This organization mainly focuses on accommodations and health care facilities for aged people
through which I get an opportunity to see my ability to connect with the community and be
useful to make a little change in someone’s daily activities. The old people I care for are a
constant reminder to me why I want to become a personal support worker, in simple words-I
love the feeling of satisfaction when caring for others. It is true that we, humans are blessed with
the nature of caring for our known person but a strong passion is essential to do so for others. As
the sole meaning of my life is to serve humanity so I decided to be an expert through further
study.

The education system of Nepal is highly based on theoretical rather than practical due to the lack
of modern technology which is meaningless for majors like I choose. So, I opted to study in
Canada to broaden my horizons through quality education. The peace and security, affordable
tuition fees and accommodation, multicultural and co-operative environment with students from
various countries along with promising career opportunities are the main reasons that fascinated
me to choose Canada for the globally recognized degree. In addition, Humber College facilitates
a placement of 160 hours long term care facility and 120 hours in community agencies where I
can change the theoretical knowledge down to earth and gain a plethora of experiences.

Poverty and homelessness affect a huge number of people in Nepal. According to statistics from
the UNDP Human Development Report, more than 250,000 people are homeless and 2.8 million
(an entire 10% of the Nepalese population) live in slums. Similarly, there are tons of data from
Nepalese history and the situation is getting worse day by day so upon completion of my study, I
will struggle on my vision to reduce the numbers of vagrant civilians by involving in nimble
organizations in Nepal as a skilled Personal Support Worker. Apart from this, lifting the
prevailing mediocre organizations to the next level which are sort of aimed to match my
imagination would be my second priority.

For compassionate individuals like me looking to make a meaningful difference in the lives of
others, a career as a Personal Support Worker will be an ideal fit. Being a PSW is also an
opportunity to learn from those with a lot of life experience, hearing some fascinating stories as I
perform the fulfilling role of helping others restore their happiness, health, and dignity. With the
right holistic health care and social services training, I’ll be ready to make a real difference.

Lastly, learning personal support worker program from Humber College will be a life changing
phase for me as I would be able to serve the people of my country and visualize the value of
solidarity among all type of person to care for others. I, therefore, request you to provide me an
opportunity to pursue my desired course and achieve the height of my career as I will study hard
and abide by visa conditions applicable to me.
I am looking forward to your positive response.

Kind Regards,
Manisa Ale
