Rectangle ABCD, not drawn to scales, has a length twice it’s breadth It in folded along the dotted line
13
as shown below. The area of the resulting figure is 20 of the area of rectangle ABCD.

If the shaded triangle has an area of 157.5 cm2

Find the breadth of rectangle ABCD. C A

C Rectangle ABCD Resulting figure

before folding after folding

20u – 13u = 7u [Folded part]

[Folded part is equivalent to shaded part]

7u = 157.5cm2
1u = 157.5 ÷ 7 = 22.5 cm2
Area of rectangle = 20u = 20 × 22.5 = 450cm2

Since length is twice its breadth, we can get a square if we divide the area of rectangle in half.

Area of square = 450 ÷ 2 = 225cm2

Breadth of rectangle ABCD = √225cm2 = 15cm

Tank A measuring 40 cm by 20 cm by 33 is completely filled with water. Tank B which has a base
measuring 15 cm by 10 cm is filled with water to a depth of 14? (im not sure if it’s 14 or just 4cm.).
Some water was poured from Tank A until the heights of the water level in both tanks are the same.
Find the new height of the water level in Tank B.

Vol of A = 40 × 20 × 33 =26400 cm3

Vol of B water? = 15 × 10 × 14 = 2100 cm3

26400+2100
= (40 ×20)+(15×20)

= 30
