CHAPTER-1
Introduction

Jalgaon District is known as Kandesh. In Jalgaon District there are

15 talukas. They are Amalner, Chalisgaon, Pachora, Bhadgaon, Parola, Erondol,
Dharangaon, Chopda, Raver, Yawal, Muktainagar, Bowdwad, Jamner,
Bhusawal,Jalgaon Gramin etc. As well as there are main river of Jalgaon
District are as Tapi river, Girna river, Purna river, Bori river, Waghur river,
Kang river etc.

Total population of Jalgaon District according to census 2011

4,229,917. Rainfall of Jalgaon District according to Irrigation department is
mention in Chapter 3 (data collection) .

As per IS 2065:1983 150 liter water required per capita per day. 63%
people in Jalgaon District are depend upon agricultural field. Water used in
Jalgaon District for following requirement. They are farming, industrial,
commercial, public, purpose.

We collect litrature review of people who work on watershed

management. We also read Shirpur pattern

We should collect all the data about dam and river in Jalgaon district.
Hatnur dam is the largest dam in Jalgaon district. As well as Waghur dam is
also largest dam in Jalgaon district. Tapi river is biggest river in Jalgaon
District. Silt content in dam are not properly removed.due to that water is less
than silt.

We also suggest that improve the old canal and maintence it properly.
As well construct new canal and depth of canal increases. Bandhara irrigation is

the best way for watershed management. New construction technique should be
used. As well as good quality material is used. Water proofing material is used
at time of construction for prevent leakages. Government should be compulsory
for every house rainwater harvesting.

For surviving of people water is important. Water available in good

quality. But management is not proper. So we can decide to project on
watershed management for Jalgaon District and solve the problem facing by
farmer and people in society.
