STRUCTURED LEARNING EXPERIENCE ON

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the session, the participants will be able to:


 Identify the barriers to effective communication.
 Understand the importance of effective communication.
 Develop skills to be able to communicate effectively.

II. EXPERIENCING

Activity Title: Listen, Interpret, Draw


 Pair students and tell them to choose to be either Student A or Student B.
 Give them each three pieces of paper, plus pens, pencils, or crayons.
 Give student A two minutes to draw. Student B is not allowed to talk to Student A or see
what he or she is drawing for the duration of the time.
 The timer goes off, Student A must then describe the drawing to Student B so they can draw
it. Allow five minutes for this step. Student B cannot speak during this time, only listen and
draw.
 Switch roles and discuss the results at the end.
 In the next difficulty tier, have the students do the same thing, but when they have their
partner draw what they drew, the artist may only ask yes or no questions.

III. PUBLISHING

INTERVIEWING PAIRS

 Take time to discuss the difficulties or successes experienced by the pairs.


 Ask which exercise was more difficult and why.
 Discuss what they learned about the need for effective communication.

IV. PROCESSING

 Let each pair present their experience to the rest of the group.
 Ask the group about:
1. The commonalities of their experience in terms of difficulties and successes.
2. The problems/challenges that they have encountered in the activity.

V. GENERALIZING

 In your everyday life, did you encounter same challenges like the ones we conducted
during the activity? How?
 How were you able to cope up with the challenges?
 In dealing with other people, why is communication very important?

VI. APPLYING

 Group the participants into 3 groups.


 Base from the outcome of the first activity; formulate/develop skills that will help you
get through from the challenges.
 Present output the rest of the groups.
 At home or in work place apply what you have learn then on next meeting discuss the
difference between your previous relationship and present relationship with people
around.
