Description
Family is the single word, with many different meaning. People have any ways of
defining a family and what being a part of family means to them. families differ in
terms of economic, cultural, social, and many other facets, but what every family has
in common is that the people who call it a family are making clear that those people
are important in some way to the person calling them his family. One definition is “a
fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and
their children”. A family consists of a father, mother and children. This is the family
shown on television as the standard family. However, the 21 st century showcases as
variety of family units, some very different from standard of the 1950s. Today,
children are also often raised in single parent homes, by grandparents or by
homosexual parents. Some families opt to have no children, or cannot have children
due to some medical or emotional barrier.

In addition to a more universal family definition, there are also plenty of people who
consider a group of friends to be a family. Many people consider friends to be as
close or even closer than extended (or immediate) family. Friends are chosen by an
individual, at times, these people may be more special or important than the family a
person was born with. Then, adults who consider pets from goldfish to horses as
defining members of the family unit. Pets can also become members of family unit.
Pets add an element of responsibility to a family, particularly for children. For couple
who cannot or choose not to, have children, pets can be a replacement and beloved as
dearly as children.

Fathers are central to the emotional well-being of their children, they are capable
caretakers and disciplinarians. Girls will look for men who hold the pattern of good
old dad, for after all, they know how “to do that”. Therefore, if father was kind,
loving and gentle, they will reach for those characteristic in men. While boys on other
hand, will model themselves after their father. They will look for their father’s
approval in everything they do, and copy those behaviors that they recognize as both
successful and familiar. However, if father is loving, kind, supportive, and protective,
boys will want to be that. Who we are and who we are to be, we are becoming and
fathers are central to that outcome.

Mother is the “sun” because her self-sacrificing generosity is ever operative in

diffusing love. Her affectionate and provident attentions are consistently and
delicately attuned to bring cheer to her husband and children. In this way, she diffuses
light and warmth about herself. She is the “sun” of the family, in the second place,
because she possesses the superior though delicate power of softening the tumult of
the passions. Finally, the wife is the “sun” of the family because by her candid
naturalness and dignified simplicity she reflects solid virtue, the spectral rays of the
divine sun of justice.

Any child is to be child. A daughter’s role is to learn, grow and become an adult. She
is given life, not to be responsible for anything or other than making the best of the
life she has been giving. A daughter or son reasonably expects physical care and
emotional support to a certain age, and parents might expect increasing domestic
responsibility and self-direction with their child’s physical maturation.
