What is Sociology?

According to the Department of Sociology,

“sociology” is the study of human
relationships and institutions. The subject
matter of sociology is very diverse. It ranges
from family to state and many more.

The basic concept of sociology is that people are largely influenced by their
surroundings or by the groups they are into and the interaction happening within that
particular group. Sociology studies not the individual but the group, not we, but the
society. It helps us by explaining and analyzing the important matters in our lives,
communities and the world. Its purpose is to explain the human condition by using the
environments around him/her as a reference and to learn how the social interaction
helps in the formation of the personality.

What is Anthropology?

Anthropology comes from the Greek word

“Anthropos” that means human beings. While
sociology is the study of the human relationships
or institutions anthropology is the study of what makes us humans. It is a study of how
humans lived. By using archaeology, the anthropologist can learn how the people of the
past are living and what is important to them. It also tries to understand how people
react to one another, the different ways people dress and the way they communicate in
different societies. To put it simply, anthropology studies the individual and what makes
him/her human. It is a study of what makes human unique.
