Mahāvārāhyaṣṭottaraśatanāmāvaliḥ ॥ (॥ महहवहरहहषटटतरशतनहमहवललल॥)
(The 108 attributes of śrī mahāvārāhi)

The aṣṭottara śatanāmāvali has 108 names of śrī Varahi Amma. These 108 names contain the very
essence of the śrī Varahi Devi sahasranāma and a treatise in itself. All the benefits that can be accrued
through reciting the sahasranāma, may also accrue through the aṣṭottara śatanāmāvali.

The aṣṭottara śatanāmāvali describes the key attributes of śrī Varahi Devi, spanning across the entire
spectrum ranging from Her physical attributes to Her spiritual splendor described from the purānic
accounts, tantric śāstrās, relationship with śrī vidyā, kuṇḍalini meditation and Her aspect as Brahman
Itself. A sadhaka will get immense benefits if he/she can also meditate upon the meanings of each nāmā
and understand both Gross meaning and Spiritual meaning of the namas.

Dhyānam ( ध्यरानम म ) :-

dhyātvendra nīla-varṇābhāṃ candra-sūryāgni locanāṃ ।

vidhi-viṣṇu surendrādi-mātṛ bhairava-sevitām ॥ 1 ॥

Let us meditate upon the Divine Mother Śrī Vārāhī, Who is dark blue in complexion and whose eyes are
illumined with the energies of billions of suns, moons and fire. She is ardently worshipped by Lord
Brahma the Creator, Lord Viṣṇu the Preserver, Lord Bhairava the Destroyer and all the celestial gods and
other Mātṛkā-s and various forms of the Divine Mother Śakti.

jvalan-maṇi-gaṇa-prokta makuṭām-āvilambitāṃ ।

astra-śastrāṇi sarvāṇi tat-tat-kāryo-citāni ca ॥ 2 ॥

Precious and luminescent gems shine and droop forth from Her crown. She is ever ready with all Her
most destructive weapons, to immediately accomplish any noble task at hand.

etais-samastair-vividhaṃ bibhratīṃ musalaṃ halaṃ ।

pātvā hiṃsrān hi kavacaṃ bhukt-imukti phala-pradam ॥ 3 ॥

She storms in with all Her enormous and extremely destructive weapons, consisting of a pestel(club or
mace) and a plough, to completely annihilate all evil. This kavacam can provide salvation, as well as
fulfillment of all material and spiritual wishes, to all the sincere worshippers of Śrī Vārāhī.

Kavacamārambham ( कवचमरारम्भम म ) :-

(Begining of the Kavacam).

paṭhettri sandhyaṃ rakṣārthaṃ ghoraśatru-nivṛttidaṃ ।

vārtāḻī me śiraḥ pātu ghorāhī phāla-muttamam ॥ 4 ॥

Those who devotedly recite the kavacam three times a day at dawn, noon and dusk, will surely get
protection against all enemies, internal and external. No matter how fierce the enemies may be, One will
be blessed with the power to annihilate them. No harm shall befall the sincere devotees of Śrī Vārāhī.

Vārtāḻī, the divine messenger, who warns us of all impending difficulties, protects the head and shields us
from all danger. Her blessings are bountiful and everlasting! The forehead is protected by ghorāhī, the
fiercest and terrific form of devi, who terrorizes the enemies and annihilates them.
The protection implied here, is for shielding us against misinformation as well as misleading knowledge
and steering us towards gaining the ultimate knowledge or Brahma jñāna, for self-realization and
spiritual liberation. This śloka implicitly suggests the enhancement of the Ājñā and Sahasrāra cakras and
gaining enhanced perception of the ultimate reality within and around us. The annihilation of ego and
pride are strongly implied by this verse.

netre varāha-vadanā pātu karṇau tathāñjanī ।

ghrāṇaṃ me rundhinī pātu mukhaṃ me pātu jandhinī ॥ 5 ॥

The boar faced Varāhavadanā protects the eyes and the ears are protected by the fabulous serpentine
Tathāñjanī. The nose is protected by the ever blocking Rundhinī. The Face is always protected by the
Virtuous Jandhinī.

The spiritual implication is that She grants us the foresight, as well as the power to disseminate the
information we perceive through our senses. By Her grace, we will notice the divine in everyone and
everything around us. The serpentine Tathāñjanī signifies the Kuṇḍalinī energizing the head region and
all the subtle cakras, helping us gain all knowledge, material and spiritual.

pātu me mohinī jihvāṃ stambhinī kaṇṭham-ādarāt ।

skandhau me pañcamī pātu bhujau mahiṣa-vāhanā ॥ 6 ॥

The tongue is protected by the mesmerizing Mohinī, while Stambhinī, the One who stalls the enemies on
their path, fervently guards the throat. The shoulders are protected by Pañcamī, The Re-creator of the
Universe. The upper arms are always protected by Mahiṣavāhanā, the One who rides the bull and tames
our ego.

The protection offered by Mohinī to the tongue, helps us speak the truth at all times and not stray away
from it. Truth is Divine and not speaking it, is straying away from divinity. None will be able to challenge
us and get away from winning a conversation. Our words will become the final edict. Stambhinī will
energize the throat Viśuddha cakra and ensures that our voice will always be smooth and clear. She will
also help us admit our mistakes and correct ourselves. We will no longer feel any shame in correcting our
course as the ego is already destroyed and we not only lead a correct path, but also advice those around
us on the same path. Pañcamī will help us shoulder any and every responsibility that comes our way and
also help us guide others who need our assistance. We will feel more responsible towards the family and
the society in general and help as many as we can, to the best of our abilities. One attains immense fame
through the help rendered, which may appear to be small, but will cascade to major success on all those
who received assistance from us. Mahiṣavāhanā will give us immense strength to move things around
not only for our own benefit, but also for everyone around us. We will gain the opportunities to change
our own fate as well as that of others. Such is the power of the Divine Mother Śrī Vārāhī.

siṃhārūḍhā karau pātu kucau kṛṣṇa-mṛgāṃcitā ।

nābhiṃ ca śaṅkhinī pātu pṛṣṭhadeśe tu cakriṇi ॥ 7 ॥

Siṃhārūḍhā, the One who rides a lion and is fearless, protects the lower arms. The breasts are protected
by Kṛṣṇamṛgāṃcitā, the dark complexioned, boar faced and highly revered One. The navel region is
protected by the Conch wielding Śaṅkhinī and the back portion of the body is protected by the disc
wielding Cakriṇi.

Siṃhārūḍhā will grant us the power to lend a helping hand to anyone in need of our assistance. We will
no longer feel shy or weak, to assist those in need of help. We will have the heart and compassion
towards everyone and the heart Anāhata cakra will be fully energized. Śaṅkhinī gives us immense
courage to overcome all hurdles and stay firm during all crises. The Maṇipūra cakra is highly energized by
Her grace. The entire spinal region and the spiritual channels (Suṣumṇā, iḍa and piṅgala nāḍi-s) are
energized, allowing the Kuṇḍalinī to rise from the basal Mūlādhāra to the crown Sahasrāra cakra.

khaḍginī pātu ca kaṭyāṃ me meḍhraṃ pātu ca khedinī ।

gudaṃ me krodhinī pātu jaghanaṃ stambhinī tathā ॥ 8 ॥

The sword wielding Khaḍginī protects the hips. The reproductive organs are protected by the piercing
Khedinī. The anal region is protected by Krodhinī. The buttocks are always protected by the staller
Stambhinī.

Khaḍginī will energize the lower sacral Svādhiṣṭhāna and the basal Mūlādhāra cakras. The fulfillment of
all material desires will happen through Her grace.

caṇḍoccaṇḍa ścoru-yugaṃ jānunī śatru-mardinī ।

jaṅghā-dvayaṃ bhadrakāḻī mahākāḻī ca gulphayo ॥ 9 ॥

Both the thighs are protected by the fierce Caṇḍoccaṇḍa and the Knees are fiercely protected by
Śatrumardinī. Both the shanks are protected at all times by the fiercest Bhadrakāḻī. The ankles are
protected by the terrific Mahākāḻī at all times.

The protection offered by Caṇḍoccaṇḍa, Śatrumardinī, Bhadrakāḻī and Mahākāḻī is so immense, that we
will never lose a footing in all pursuits and we will always have the resources to wade through any crises
and remain steadfast and stand firm, in the path of righteousness and spirituality.

Pādādy-aṅguḻi-paryaṃtaṃ pātu conmattabhairavī ।

sarvāṅgaṃ me sadā pātu kālasaṅkarṣaṇī tathā ॥ 10 ॥

The Feet and the toes are protected fervently by the blissful Unmattabhairavi at all times. All the body
parts are protected by the dark and most attractive Kālasaṅkarṣaṇī.

Unmattabhairavi and Kālasaṅkarṣaṇī will lead us to the pinnacle of spirituality and ultimately liberate us
from all karmas.

Such is the greatness of Śrī Vārāhī, who is none other than Śrī Lalitā in Her aspect as the Re-creator!
One’s fate, no matter how bad it may be, will be permanently changed through Her grace. There is
nothing that cannot be accomplished by Her grace. One need not look anywhere to obtain their desires.
Śrī Vārāhī is the embodiment of everything. The Divine Mother holds the entire universe by Her tusks
and supports everyone and everything by Her grace.

Phalaśruti :-

yuktāyuktā sthitaṃ nityaṃ sarva-pāpāt-pramucyate ।

sarve samarthya saṃyuktaṃ bhakta-rakṣaṇa-tat-param ॥ 11 ॥

Whether one is in unison with Śrī Vārāhī in Her devotion or not a devotee of Her, All one requires is a
fixation on Her, to become completely liberated from all sins and worries. She is always ready and
prepared, to come to the rescue of Her devotees in distress.

Yukta means connected or joined and Ayukta is disconnected or separate. Whether one is deeply
connected to Śrī Vārāhī in devotion and faith or is not an ardent worshipper of Her, The benefits of this
Kavacam would still be conferred on the devotee.

Yukta can also mean having faith in divinity and the Supreme Lord or Brahman. Ayukta would in this
context would mean being rational and/or not being devoted to GOD.
Yukta is also duality or dvaita, wherein the individual or jīva is viewed separate from Brahman or
Paramātma. The jīva or ātma prays to Paramātma for emancipation and liberation from all karmas.
Ayukta is also advaita or non-duality. The individual is not separate from the Singular reality, but simply
gains the perception of duality due to the mysterious illusory force called māyā, which is an attribute of
Brahman. A soul that transcends the karmas and attains a higher and deeper level of consciousness
through the energization of the cakras and the rise of Kuṇḍalinī, ultimately realizes that it’s not separate
or any different from the Universal Consciousness.

Samasta-devatā sarvaṃ savyaṃ viṣṇoḥ purārdhane ।

Sarva-śatru-vināśāya śūlinā nirmitaṃ purā ॥ 12 ॥

All celestial gods along with the Preserver Lord Viṣṇu, constitute half the power and She alone standing
firm becomes another half, to withstand and destroy all enemies.

Śrī Vārāhī is the consort of Śrī Varāha, an avatar of Viṣṇu. She is the power or śakti of Lord Varāha and is
represented as half of Him.

Sarva-bhakta-janāśritya sarva-vidveṣa saṃhatiḥ ।

vārāhī kavacaṃ nityaṃ tri-sandhyaṃ yaḥ paṭhen-naraḥ ॥ 13 ॥

For the welfare of all devotees and all beings, for the removal of all hatred between each other and for
ensuring good bonding amongst all, Śrī Vārāhī kavacam must be recited thrice daily at dawn, noon and
dusk.

tathā-vidhaṃ bhūta-gaṇā na spṛśanti kadācana ।

āpada-śśatru-corādi graha-doṣāśca sambhavāḥ ॥ 14 ॥

Those who follow this procedure will soon get rid of all evil spirits, ghosts and bad influences impacting
their peace of mind. No bad influence or evil karmic actions will dare to affect the devotees at any time.
One need not fear from enemies, thieves, malefic planetary influences manifesting upon the sincere
devotees.

mātā-putraṃ yathā vatsaṃ dhenuḥ pakṣmeva locanaṃ ।

tathāṅga-meva vārāhī rakṣā rakṣāti sarvadā ॥ 15 ॥

Parents, children and all dear ones are protected at all times. The Divine Mother Śrī Vārāhī, will also
bestow Her divine grace and immense protection on pets, farm animals, cows, calves and on all our
possessions, at all times. There will be immense prosperity and abundance of material and spiritual
riches.

Śrī Kirata Vārāhī Devī Stotram ( शशरर दकरवतव ववरवहर दद वर सतततशरमश )

When faced with extreme difficulties and near impossible to resolve situations, diseases, financial losses
etc due to the most hideous karmas in our causal body, Worship of Śrī Vārāhī Devī and/or Śrī Pratyaṅgirā,
is recommended to overcome or lessen the effects of the onslaughts faced. Ugra devatas or Terrific
deities, have the abilities to resolve the problems quickly, but also take us through many ordeals hastily,
before delivering the results. Some karmas have to be faced and the deities help us wade through them,
by throwing a helping hand towards us.

Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī Stotram written by Sage Durvāsa, is one such special stotram to help invoke the grace of
Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, in the form of a huntress with devastating weapons at Her disposal, to help dig through
our karmic baggage and uplift us from the ordeals we are facing, In the same manner as She saved the
Earth, from the oceanic depths and the treachery of Hiraṇyākṣa.

May the stotram help us all in overcoming all difficulties and staying afloat, materially and spiritually.
May She break through all our karmas and ultimately grant us self-realization and liberation.

stotramārambham ( स्तमतमरारम्भम म ) :-

(The stotram begins)

ugra-rūpāṃ mahā-devīṃ śatru-nāśana-tat-parāṃ ।

krūrāṃ kirāta-vārāhīṃ vandehaṃ kārya-siddhaye ॥ 1 ॥

Salutations to the extremely fierce, aggressive and mighty Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, the huntress who will not
spare any enemies, internal and external. She will subdue and destroy them before they can cause us
any harm. Salutations to the Divine Mother, whose blessings will help, in accomplishing any and every
task.

sva-apahīnāṃ madālasyām-tām-mattām-madata-amasīṃ ।

damṣṭrā-karāla-vadanāṃ vikṛtāsyāṃ mahā-ravām ॥ 2 ॥

Salutations to Her who’s devoid of all defects and is self-virtuous and independent, requiring no
attestation. She is devoid of indolence, laziness, drunkenness, anxiety, distress, disease and always
remains in a very joyful and exuberant blissful state.

She has a face with protruding and very sharp diamond like teeth, that can pierce and tear apart
anything. She is enormously infinite in size and dreadful by appearance and possesses a deafening and
roaring sound.

She as the aspect of the Divine Mother Śakti, is independent and represents the power of Śiva. She is the
Dynamic Superconsciousness from whom the individual conscience have emanated and present in us.
Those who are devoid of faith and not pure of heart, do not have the ability to ascend to the higher
planes of consciousness. One needs to be devoid of laziness, anxiety, distress, disease, addiction to
intoxicants etc. to be able to energize and pierce the cakras present in our astral body. Śrī Vārāhī
represents the piṅgala nāḍi or the right spiritual channel located at the bottom of the spine or suṣumna,
indicating motion and physical activity. The left channel is iḍa nāḍi, represented by Rājā Mātaṅgi,
indicating knowledge, sciences and arts. One needs both knowledge and action, to get into the spiritual
path and help ascend the kuṇḍalini along the suṣumna, to gain self-realization and ultimately liberation
from the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

Her sharp teeth indicate that She can digest and munch through all our karmas, however intense they
maybe. Her horrific face reminds us of all the dangers and pitfalls we may face, should we deviate from
the moralistic and spiritual path and sink in the quest for material riches.
ūrdhva-keśīm-ugra-dharāṃ soma-sūrya-agni-locanāṃ ।

locanāgni sphuliṅga-adyair-bhasmī kṛtvā jagat-trayam ॥ 3 ॥

Saluations to Her whose unkempt hair reaches out in all directions of the vast space. She is of a terrific
and wrathful form. Her fiery and luminescent eyes, contain the energies of billions of suns and moons.
Her glittering and fire-emitting sparkling form, can instantly incinerate anything and everything, including
the universe and all the three realms, if She so wills.

She is the very cause of light and salvation, of all the realms of the multi-dimensional multi-verse.

Her luminescent eyes signify that She sees everything and acts upon the needs of Her sincere devotees.

Her wavy hair represents the waves of bliss emanating from Her in all directions.

jagat-trayaṃ modayantī-maṭṭa-hāsair-muhur-muhuḥ ।

khaḍgaṃ ca musalaṃ caiva pāśaṃ śoṇita-pātrakam ॥ 4 ॥

All the three realms rejoice and dance rhythmically to the beat of drums, with great joy, happiness and
laughter incessantly. They also rejoice at every moment, when Her benevolent grace descends upon
them, by meditating upon Her form. She holds a sword that slices our ego and arrogance, a pestel to
grind the universe to perfection, a red blood stained vessel that She uses to infuse life into all beings and
a lasso/rope to rein in the errant beings and put them back on the moral and spiritual track.
dadhatīṃ pañcaśākhaiḥ svaiḥ svarṇa-ābharaṇa-bhūṣitāṃ ।

guñjā-mālāṃ śaṅkha-mālāṃ nānāratna-vibhūṣitām ॥ 5 ॥

She renders Herself as Pañcaśākha or Pañcami representing the five elements of air, ether, fire, water
and earth, as well as the five states of consciousness etc. She is also adorned with all the gold and
precious ornaments all over Her body. She wears necklaces of guñjā beads, conch shells as well as
precious ornaments.

Her aspect as the Creator of the universe is highlighted in this verse. The necklace of beads signifies
plants and vegetation; the shells specify sea-life. As Pañcami, She supports all the elements required for
life sustenance. The precious gems signify all life, that’s precious to Her, as well as the natural elements,
that abound all over the universe.

vairipatni-kaṇṭha-sūtra-cchedana kṣura-rūpiṇīṃ ।

krodhod-dhatāṃ prajāhantṛ kṣurike-vasthitāṃ sadā ॥ 6 ॥

She is the power or śakti of Lord Varāha, a wrathful and fierce avatar of the Preserver Lord Viṣṇu,
descended upon the Earth, to avenge the demonic behavior and injustice caused by the celestial
asura/rākṣasa called Hiraṇyākṣa. She was very aggressive in annihilating the extremely powerful
Hiraṇyākṣa, who was undefeated by any celestial suras or gods or any other beings. His head was
severed brutally in the horrific fight by a razor sharp sword.

She is there to avenge and destroy all hatred and evil, as well as save the mankind and all beings,
through Her swift and effective action, at all times.
The Divine Mother can be meditated upon, to rescue us from all evil doers and also help cleanse our sins
and place us on the righteous path. She holds the entire creation on Her tusks and is always there, to
rescue us from misery, at all times.

vairipatni-kaṇṭha-sūtra-cchedana literally means breaking the maṇgala sutra, a chain worn by married
women signifying protection of their marital bond from the ill effects of the planet Mars and all evil
influences on their marriage. The Divine Mother will not hesitate in Her aspect as the destroyer, to get
rid of evil beings, even if they’re seeking divine protection for their evil deeds and survival. Those not
following the righteous path have every reason to fear the wrath of the Divine Mother.

jitarambhoru-yugaḻāṃ ripusaṃhā-tāṇḍavīṃ

rudraśaktiṃ parāṃ vyaktām-īśvarīṃ para-devatām ॥ 7 ॥

She has massive, fascinating and very strong pair of thighs that She uses to ring in, the dance of
destruction for all evil-doers like the asurā-s. She is the ever prevailing, manifested power or śakti of the
Destroyer Rudra and is also the protector of all beings including the celestial gods or devatā-s.

vibhajya kaṇṭha-damṣṭra-abhyāṃ pibantīm-asṛjaṃ ripoḥ ।

gokaṇṭhamiva śārdūlo gajakaṇṭhaṃ yathā hariḥ ॥ 8 ॥

In Her aspect as the Destroyer, She munches and drinks the entire creation, that She Herself has
manifested in Her aspect as the Creator. She is like the lion which clutches a cow by it’s neck or like Lord
Viṣṇu who cuts the neck of Gajāsura with His sudarṣana cakra.
kapotāyāśca vārāhī pataty-aśanayā ripau ।

sarva śatruṃ ca śuṣyantī kampantī sarva-vyādhayaḥ ॥ 9 ॥

Śrī Vārāhī descends like a bird swooping down to catch it’s prey. All the enemies become gradually
weaker and timid trembling with fear, as though suffering from every disease.

She preys upon all our fears and removes our sins and karmas, as well as all other internal defects that
we possess, as long as we’re righteous and sincere in our devotion to Her.

vidhi viṣṇu-śivendrādyā mṛtyu-bhīti-parāyaṇāḥ ।

evaṃ jagat-traya-kṣobha-kāraka krodha-samyutām ॥ 10 ॥

Even the Creator Brahma, Preserver Viṣṇu and the Destroyer Rudra, as well as all the celestial gods such
as Indra and others, live in perpetual fear of Her aspect, as the Dissolver of the universe or the cosmic
egg Brahmāṇḍa. In this aspect, She causes great destruction and agitation amongst all creation and ends
everything in Her devastation.

sādhakānāṃ puraḥ sthitvā pravadantīṃ muhūrmuhuḥ ।

pracarantīṃ bhakṣayāmi tapas-sādhakate ripūn ॥ 11 ॥

She proclaims Her arrival as Vārtāli, the Divine Messenger and remains firmly rooted in the minds and
hearts of Her devotees and blesses them incessantly and at every moment. As announced, She arrives
and consumes all offerings made to Her in the sacrificial fire.

The sacrificial fire and the offerings refer to our inner ego, pride, greed and everything else that we can
offer Her. The inner sacrifice of all our internal evils are to be offered to obtain Her full grace.

te'pi yāno brahma-jihvā śatrumāraṇa-tatparāṃ ।

tvag-asṛṅ-māṃsa-medosthi-majja-aśuklāni sarvadā ॥ 12 ॥

As mandated by the Creator Lord Brahma, She reaches out riding Her vehicle to annihilate all our
enemies at all times, without fail. She manifests in a physical form at all times, with an enormous tongue,
skin, blood, flesh, fat, bones and dark in complexion.

bhakṣayantīṃ bhaktaśatro racirāt-prāṇa-hāriṇīṃ ।

evaṃ vidhāṃ mahādevīṃ yācehaṃ śatrupīḍanam ॥ 13 ॥

All enemies of the devotees, internal and external, would be destroyed and consumed. Within a very
short duration, their life would be sucked out like a hunter killing a deer. The Divine Mother deploys Her
strategies of annihilating the enemies and rendering them immobile as and when needed, to protect Her
devotees.

śatru-nāśana-rūpāṇi karmāṇi kuru-pañcami ।

sarva-śatru-vināśārthaṃ tvāmahaṃ śaraṇaṃ gataḥ ॥ 14 ॥

Oh Divine Mother, the One who’s endowed with all the qualities of annihilating enemies, both internal
and external, please exonerate us from our karmas and protect as the Divine Pañcami, the cause of all
the five natural elements air, ether, fire, water and earth. It is through your very grace, that the five
Pāṇḍavā-s of the Kuru dynasty, referred to in the great epic Mahābhārata, carried out every task that was
assigned to them and fulfilled their karmas and duties. Salutations to you, Oh Divine Mother, who
blesses us immensely upon destroying all our enemies and granting us everlasting prosperity.

tasmād-avaśyaṃ śatrūṇāṃ vārāhi kuru nāśanaṃ ।

pātumichāmi vārāhi devi tvaṃ ripu-karmataḥ ॥ 15 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, You never fail to come to our rescue, in defeating our enemies. Oh
Vārāhī devi! You always protect us from any pain and deceit, that may cross our path in our daily karmas.

māraya-āśu mahādevi tatkathāṃ tena karmaṇā ।

āpada-śśatru-bhūtāyā grahotthā rājakāśca yāḥ ॥ 16 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Mahādevi, Your actions are performed very swiftly and are most effective. One is
amazed at your modus operandi!
Lo behold! As She rescues us from grave danger and delivers the death blow to all the evil spirits and
enemies, One instantly receives all the benefits that would be obtained, during the astrological phase of
the most benefic planet in transit.

nānāvidhāśca vārāhi stambha-yāśu nirantaraṃ ।

śatru-grāma-gṛhān-deśān-rāṣṭrāny-api ca sarvadā ॥ 17 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, You have innumerable ways of stalling the enemies and making them
embrace defeat in all their efforts, every time. They face defeat from us in every village, house,
establishment, region, continent, state and country. There is not a single place that the enemies can
escape to and will always face defeat by your divine grace!

uccāṭa-yāśu vārāhi vṛkavat-pramatha-āśu tān ।

amukāmuka-saṃjñāṃśca śatrūṇāṃ ca parasparam ॥ 18 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, You can ruin, tear apart and torment the enemies directly and cause
heavy damage upon them. Some of those who do recover consciousness from the onslaught, will cling to
each other and live in great fear forever.

vidveṣaya mahādevi kurvantaṃ me prayojanaṃ ।

yathā naśyanti ripavastathā vidveṣaṇaṃ kuru ॥ 19 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Mahādevi, You continuously perform and exhibit your grace, with the aim and
purpose of destroying evil of all kinds. All evil doers and enemies, will continuously attract your wrath
and destruction.

yasmin kāle ripustambhaṃ bhakṣaṇāya samarpitaṃ ।

idānīmeva vārāhi bhūṅ-kṣvedaṃ kāla-mṛtyuvat ॥ 20 ॥

Oh Divine Mother Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī, When the enemies and evil have taken firm root and hatred has
consumed the society at large and chaos prevails all around, You appear instantly at that time and
shoulder the responsibility of restoring order and peace to the world and universe, by destroying the
evil.

Our inner enemies such as anger, greed, ego, pride etc. ensure our continuous existence on the Earth
plane via rebirth, due to the prārabdha karma or the remaining leftover karma. As long as karma is not
exhausted, one cannot move to higher planes of existence or reach liberation. There are two types of
death - Apamṛtyu and kālamṛtyu. Apamṛtyu refers to the continuous life-death-rebirth cycle and the
soul/atma continues to toil due to the leftover karmas. Apamṛtyu occurs again and again, whereas
kālamṛtyu happens only once, when the karmas are fully exhausted and liberation is granted. The role of
Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī is referred to here, in a subtle manner, to indicate that She destroys the inner enemies
completely to attain final salvation.

māṃ dṛṣṭvā ye janā nityaṃ vidveṣanti hasanti ca ।

dūṣayanti ca nindanti vārāhyetān pramāraya ॥ 21 ॥

After observing the behavior of people and their ensuing hatred, Śrī Kirāta Vārāhī bursts in laughter and
puts to death all such negative behavior amongst people and ends the corruption, blame game etc to
rein in everlasting peace.

hantu te musalaḥ śatrūn āśaneḥ patanādiva ।

śatrudehān halaṃ tīkṣṇaṃ karotu śakalīkṛtān ॥ 22 ॥

She deploys Her weapons such as the pestel, to slay enemies and flings them far away to descend to
their death. The bodies of the enemies are cut into pieces by the sharp and extremely effective spade
and thrown asunder.

She has protected the Earth itself, on Her tusks to prevent the asura Hiraṇyākṣa from causing intense
damage. She has thus protected the denizens of Earth from great harm and ushered in peace and
prosperity with Her timely action and grace. Her large, sharp, lion like teeth and toe nails can tear apart
even the evilest and treacherous enemies, including all asurā-s or demon like beings. The slaying of
Hiraṇyākṣa, Mahiṣa etc are depicted in this manner.

The gravitational force protecting the earth and holding it in the orbit around the sun, as well as the
atmosphere protecting the earth from radiation, is subtly conveyed.

After having crushed the enemies of the Earth under Her feet in this manner, She rides Her mount
Mahiṣa, the bull and strikes a victorious tone with an elephant horn, further causing fear amongst all
evil-doers and deceitful people at once!

What more needs to be said of Her abundant ways of trouncing the enemies and eradicating evil? One
only needs to pray very sincerely to Her and obtain Her grace, to banish all evil internal and external to
themselves and dwell in everlasting peace.

Panchami, Dandanatha, Sanketa, Samayeshwari, Samayasanketa, Varahi, Potrini, Shivaa, Vartali,
Mahasena, Ajna chakreshwari and Arighni.

A man, who remains protected in the diamond-cage composed of these twelve names, shall
never become unhappy, even during the most difficult of times.

Kiri Chakra Varnanam

O Agastya! Now listen to the divine names of the deities present in the Kiri Chakra chariot of Sri
Dandanatha (Varahi) Devi. By simply listening to these divine names, one shall obtain victory.
The first landing of this chariot is the great bindu. Sri Varahi is present in this Bindu. Staying
here, she destroys all the evils that bother the creation. With various weapons, she is forever in
charge of victory. She is piercing the demons with her sharp teeth (horn). She has a creeper like
body with a blue complexion that is comparable to a group of rain clouds. Her blue body seems
like the dark night in which her half-moon-like teeth shine bright (as though the moon is smiling
in the night sky). The great goddess has the entire world as her child. She enhances the beauty
of the Kiri Chakra chariot, on which she is seated. There are three goddesses seated on the
second landing of this chariot. They are: Jrimbhini, Mohini and Stambhini. These goddesses
have a complexion like that of the blooming Dadimi (pomegranate) flower. They are capable of
eliminating the entire race of the demons. Holding weapons like Musala, plough, bowl of wine
ands snake, they are decorated with bangles made of ruby. They are capable of burning the
demons from the sparks that emanate from their sharp, terrifying eyes. They are busy serving
Sri Varahi without any doubt. The deities residing in the third landing of the chariot are:
Andhini, Rundhini, Stambhini, Mohini and Jhrimbhini. These are associated with the Mantra of
Sri Varahi Devi. Their form seems to be the very personification of the flames of the final fire of
destruction. Their thunderous laughter is sufficient to pierce the three worlds. They have
stretched their tongues to drink the blood of Bhandasura's army. They are always busy serving
Sri Varahi. The six deities residing in the fourth landing are: Brahmi, Maaheshwari, Kaumari,
Vaishnavi, Indrani and Chamunda. These goddesses with blazing forms reside in the six Chakras
as per the order of Sri Dandanatha Devi. Below this landing, present are the deities Yakini,
Rakini, Lakini, Vakini, Shakini and Dakini. The seventh goddess Hakini is the congregate of the
rest. These goddesses are extremely powerful. They have fearful faces and are busy drinking the
blood, skin, flesh, bones, semen, fat and bone marrow of the enemies. These goddesses known
as the Dhatunathas (the deities of the seven Dhatus in the body) grant the eight great spiritual
accomplishments to the devoted. They are busy in enchanting, killing, immobilizing, beating and
swallowing the demons. They are also well versed in destroying all the dangers that bother the
good and the devoted. These goddesses are powerful enough to drink the waters of the seven
great oceans. Their eyes are round and large like the wheels of a cart. They are ever ready to
destroy people who offend or act against Sri Varahi, the Vedas, the system of Samayachara,
deities, Veerachara and Yajnas.

On either side of the same landing, there are two Shaktis called Krodhini and Stambhini.
Decorated with loose bangles, they fan Sri Dandanatha. They are intoxicated with the blood of
the demons and have a smiling face. On either side of the Kiri Chakra chariot, weapons called
Hala (plough) and Musala (lance) are present in the form of deities. In place of crown, they are
decorated with their own weapons. In future, it is with these weapons that Sri Varahi kills a
demon called Vishanga. Right in front of Sri Dandanatha is a deity named Chandocchanda. His
thunderous roar echoes all through the sky and the sound he makes with his sharp teeth
deafens the world. He has four hands and three eyes. He holds trident, sword and Pretapasha in
his hands. With his sight fixed on Sri Dandanatha, he is busy serving Sri Varahi. Vartali and the
other goddesses are present in the fifth landing of this great chariot. They are decorated with
eight serpents and have indestructible vigor and power. Capable of burning the race of demons,
they are busy serving the commander of Sri Lalita Mahatripurasundari. Their names are: Vartali,
Varahi, Varahamukhi, Andhini, Rundhini, Jrimbhini, Mohini and Stambhini. They are well versed
in agitating the enemies and eradicating them.

On the left side of the same landing, a smoke-colored buffalo is present, which is a vehicle of Sri
Dandanatha. Its horns are as long as two Kroshas. Its body is about one Krosha. Its body is
covered with hair, which are sharp like the sword. It has a tail that resembles the staff of Yama,
the god of death. Its back, which is scary and tall, resembles a mountain of collyrium. Its breath
is capable of agitating the seven oceans. The 'Ghurughuru' noise it makes seems to make fun of
Mahisha, Yama's vehicle. By simply thumping its hooves, it is able to scatter the clouds in the
sky. Below the same landing, Indra and the other celestials are present on raised platforms.
They are present here to remind Sri Lalita Parameshwari of their request and to facilitate the
protection of the world. Let me briefly describe their names. Indra, sixty-four crores of divine
damsels and celestials, Siddhas, fire-god, Sadhyas,
Vishwedevas, Vishwakarma and Maya (sculptors), Matridevatas, eleven Rudras and their

group, Pishachas, Nirriti, demons, Mitras, Vishwavasu and the other Gandharvas, groups of
spirits, Varuna, eight Vasus, Vidyadharas, Kinnaras, Vayu, Chitraratha- the creator of forests,
Tumburu, Narada, Yakshas headed by Kubera, Soma, Lord Narayana, Lord Ishwara, Brahma,
Ashwini Devas- the celestial physicians, Dhanvantari, Gananayakas - all of them are present
there. In this circle of celestials, Indra, Kubera and Vayu are present in their respective
directions.Three goddesses Jhrimbhini, Stambhini and Mohini are present in the fifth landing of
this radiant chariot. In the region of the same landing, Kshetrapala is present holding skull and
mace in his hands. He has his hair tied upwards and has a large body. He is dark like the moss at
the bottom of the nether worlds. His thunderous laughter is like the Vajrayudha, capable of
slicing the entire universe. He is constantly agitating the earth and sky by sounding his
Damaruka (hand drum). In the form of noose, he is holding a serpent with three heads, in his
hands. Kshetrapala is always serving Sri Varahi Devi. Her vehicle, the great lion, is also present
nearby. O Agastya, I have already described this lion to you. Below this region, there are a
thousand Shaktis, resembling Sri Dandanatha in from and complexion and sporting the same
weapons as Sri Varahi. They have long, sharp canines and have a bluish-black complexion. They
hold Hala and Musala in their hands. They fill the skulls held in their hands with the blood of all
those who betray Sri Lalita Parameshwari, Sri Shyamala or Sri Varahi. They decorate themselves
with the intestines of all those who betray or offend the devotees of Sridevi. I shall tell you the
divine names of these thousand Shaktis in the Sahasranama chapter (of Sri Dandanatha). So, I
will not repeat them now. Also nearby is another vehicle of Sri Dandanatha, the Krishna Saranga
(the black antelope or spotted deer). Its horns are about half a Krosha, face is about ¾th Krosha
and its legs are about a Krosha each. Its tail is always raised. It has a white belly. This wonderful
vehicle is also present in the fifth landing of the Kiri Chakra chariot. In the same landing, Sura
Samudra (the ocean of liquor or wine) is also present in the form of a deity. Like a mountain of
ruby, he has a red complexion and is holding a lump of meat in his hands. Decorated with
golden ornaments, he is in the embrace of Mada Shakti, who holds a red lotus in her hands.
During the battle, whenever the Shaktis experience fatigue, Sura Samudra assumes various
forms and distributes Sura to them to banish their fatigue. You shall know his wonderful role in
the later part of the story. In the eight directions of this landing, ten great Bhairavas are present.
They are very famous and powerful. They seem to brighten the sun with their own brightness.
During the end of the creative cycle, they destroy the world as per the orders of Sri
Varahi. Holding tridents, they seem to pierce the skies. Their names are: Hetuka, Tripurari, Agni,
Yamajihva, Ekapada, Kaala, Karaala, Bheemaroopa, Haatakesha and Achala Bhairavas. Along
with ten crore attendants, they reside in the fifth landing of the Kiri Chakra chariot. O sage! I
have described to you, all the divinities residing in this chariot, from Jrimbhini to Achala
Bhairava. All these deities shall kill demons and drink their blood in the battle. In this way, with
all these Shaktis, the great Kiri Chakra chariot of Sri Dandanatha Varahi proceeded further
towards the battlefield.
