Level: 12th grade of high school Length: 30 Type of Lesson: Reading


There are 20 students in the class. 5 students don’t have good enough background knowledge. Another
10 are students with good level of English and 5 others are intelligent ones with very good background

The main aim of the lesson is to be able to comprehend the reading thoroughly, and be able to answer
questions regarding the reading.
The main function of Reading is providing learners with ‘comprehensible input’. Therefore, this part
aims at helping students extract and construct meaning through interaction and involvement with

written language (Reading Study Group, 2002, p.11). It also acts as the context of practicing newly

learned words/expressions and raises students’ awareness towards the structure presented in the lesson
(relative pronouns). Further, it gives students instruction how to use a dictionary.

Lesson Plan Procedure

Stage Time Procedure

Starting the lesson by reviewing the new words of the previous session.
Lead-in: (6 minutes)
Talking about the new words to help students master them and be prepared for the reading
comprehension.

Pre-reading: (7 minutes) Introducing Skimming, Scanning, Highlighting and Keyword Finding strategies.

Asking students to read the reading silently and answer its questions using Scanning strategy
While-Reading: and then checking their answers.
(10 minutes)
Playing the audio file to make sure everyone is familiar with the correct pronunciation of the
reading and its words.

Post-reading:
(7 minutes) Doing the reading exercises and assigning homework.
