Gathering (Pastor) Once when people brought their babies to Jesus to be blessed, his disciples wanted to send

them away, but Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these
that the kingdom of God belongs." (Luke 18:15-16). ……. we are glad you have brought……to be baptized
today. Baptism is God's gift to us. It is God who takes the initiative; God chooses us. Long before we can
understand or respond, God knows and loves each one of us and wants to be known and loved by us. Baptism
marks and celebrates the gracious, transforming work of God within us, not just in the moment of baptism itself
but throughout the whole of life.

Opening Hymn: All Creatures Of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King

Life up your voice and with us sing
O praise Him, Alleluia

Thou burning sun with golden beam

Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Thou rushing wind that art so strong

Ye clouds that sail in Heaven along
O praise Him, Alleluia
Thou rising moon in praise rejoice
Ye lights of evening find a voice
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Let all things their Creator bless

And worship Him in humbleness
O praise Him, Alleluia

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son

And praise the Spirit, three in one
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son

And praise the Spirit, three in one
O praise Him, O praise Him
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Pastor: Brothers and sisters in Christ: Through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy
Church. We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the
Spirit. All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price.
On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil
powers of this world, and repent of your sin?

Parents: We will.

Pastor: Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in
whatever forms they present themselves?

Parents: We will.
Pastor: Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him
as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?

Parents: We will.

Pastor: Will you nurture these children (persons) in Christ’s holy Church, that by your teaching and example
they may be guided to accept God’s grace for themselves, to profess their faith openly, and to lead a Christian
life?

Parents: We will.

Will you who sponsor ____________ support and encourage in her Christian life?

God Parents: We will.

Pastor: Do you, as Christ’s body, the Church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to
Christ?

Congregation: We do.

Pastor: Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these persons now before you in
your care?

Congregation: With God’s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ.
We will surround these persons with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their trust of
God, and be found faithful in their service to others. We will pray for them, that they may be true disciples who
walk in the way that leads to life.

Pastor:
Let us join together in professing the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New
Testaments. Do you believe in God the Father?

Congregation: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Pastor: Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

Congregation: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, [who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born
of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the
dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will
come again to judge the living and the dead.]

Pastor: Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?

Congregation: I believe in the Holy Spirit, [the holy church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.]

Pastor: (Blessing of the Water) Eternal God, we thank you for the gift of water. When nothing existed but
chaos, you swept across the waters of creation and brought forth life; when you saw your people as slaves in
Egypt, you led them to freedom through the sea; across the river Jordan you led Israel to the land you promised.
In the fullness of time you sent Jesus, nurtured in the waters of a womb; in the Jordan he was baptized by John
and anointed by your Spirit; at the well in Samaria he offered the gift of living water; his followers are called to
share the baptism of his death and resurrection and to make disciples of all nations. By the power of your Holy
Spirit, bless this water and the child who is baptized in it, that she may be born of water and the Spirit, be raised
to new life in Christ and strengthened to serve you in the world. To you be all honor and glory, now and for
ever. Amen

Pastor:
Name, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Holy Spirit
work within you, that being born through water and the Spirit, you may be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Now it is our joy to welcome ________ in Christ. Through baptism you are incorporated by the Holy Spirit into
God’s new creation and made to share in Christ’s royal priesthood. We are all one in Christ Jesus. With joy and
thanksgiving, we welcome you as members of the family of Christ.

Closing Hymn: Shine, Jesus, shine

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us

Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine

Fill this land with the Father's glory

Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence

From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness

So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me

Benediction:
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. Amen.
